2021 Scarbolo iL Ramato Pinot Grigio (13.5%) from Lauzacco, Italy is an interesting wine. Though it is “Copper” colored like a Rose, the winemaker insists this is opposite to “Rosato” in that the Pinot Grigio is used with all of it’s salmon hued skins intact giving this White wine the color it has..

No, it’s not technically Rosé but rather white wine made from a white grape who’s berries gain all kinds of colour when they ripen. This is so well made that it in fact reminds, tastes and acts the like pinot grigio you’d expect it to be and with peach fleshy unctuousness within the cleanest sensibility. Really easy to drink and yes, you could pour it for people who think and want it to be Rosé.

Tasting notes: flavors of orange, stone fruit, apricots & citrus. Sweetness is moderate/low as is the acidity. Hint of minerality & honey. Very fun wine and gets a “recommended” from us. Bought for $26 Cdn per bottle at our local Co-op YXE.
