"glacis" (french term, the "i" is prolonged and die "s" is silent) is a military term and describes a large grassy plain in front of a wall (city wall in this case) with short-cut grass and where it is strictly forbidden do built anything. Thusly the enemy has no cover when advancing. The restaurant was built on the former Glacis (once the city wall was demolished and you could use that space).

Went to Chez Bernard because of this video. The staff shouted at us and the food was awful. Wouldn't recommend.
I am from Vienna, very nice video. Well, I never could afford all these places, thats why I even don´t know them. haha! if you ever go back visiting vienna, I highly recommend Strandcafe at alte donau! 🙂
