KEYS MY CROPS in Neive (ITALY)
– Here we are, “Keys my Crops” project in Italy, day number 2. In which place are we?
– We are in Neive, one of the most beautiful places in Italy and we are in the farmhouse of Toso Family company ( owned by two brothers, Carlo e Corrado, and it’s thirty years now that we run the family company.
– How many hectares of vineyards do you have and which are the main varieties?
– The company has 50 hectares. Twenty of those are vineyards and the main varieties are Nebbiolo da Barbaresco, Barbera, Dolcetto, Arneis e Moscato and the rest is hazelnut and some fields for livestock breeding grass.
– Is 2018 a good year for wine?
– Yes, now we already harvested the Moscato. There are all the prerequisites for making a good wine, also because now in September, we have very hot days and rather cool nights. The heat exchange favours a lot the maturation of both Nebbiolo and Barbera.
– What are the main problems or challenges you face in viticulture and where is the connection with COMPO EXPERT Italia?
– I use COMPO EXPERT more for young rooted plants, when they need to make the root system or where there are vineyards that are very steep and when it rains heavily it is washed out. Then especially in spring I use it because at least it remains attached to the plant and I lose nothing. If, on the other hand, I put it in the ground, sometimes it is washed out and you don’t find anything.
– So finally what is your message to the rest of the world? What is the success of your business in Italy?
– My message is to try to pollute as little as possible and always believe in the future and try to move forward even if sometimes there are difficult moments because of the weather or something else. Always continue, which is what my dad, my grandfather, my great-grandfather did.
– Last question: is the cooperation the key of success for the future?
– If you succeed, yes, but I think it’s always very difficult. As far as we can, it would be nice to be able to work together more, also because if it was possible, we could buy much more advanced technological machinery and without great cost.
