John Travolta, known for his roles in “Saturday Night Fever” and “Pulp Fiction,” recently dined at Via Canaletto in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, following his return from the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. The 70-year-old actor, who has an estate in Ocala, Florida, frequently visits the restaurant when he is in the area, as reported by the Daytona Beach News-Journal.
Leon Geller, the owner of Via Canaletto, spoke highly of Travolta’s appreciation for fine dining. “He’s a food connoisseur,” Geller told the News-Journal. During his visit, Travolta enjoyed a variety of Italian dishes, including carbonara, lasagna, and bucatini with meat sauce. Chef Antonio Mazzella also served the actor specials like swordfish puttanesca. “He does the majority of his food from scratch,” Geller said, highlighting the chef’s dedication to quality.
Travolta’s visit to Via Canaletto was marked by a friendly atmosphere, with the star posing for a photo with the restaurant team. The restaurant shared the moment on Instagram, captioning the post, “Always a great time when JT comes for dinner!”
Travolta and Geller have maintained a friendship since they first met in Ocala in 2010. Geller shared that Travolta had visited the restaurant multiple times since its opening in October 2023 and had even sampled the food before it was open to the public. “JT is just one of the best people I’ve ever met in my entire life, and I’ve been all over the world,” Geller said. “He’s the greatest human and, like I said, when people come in, he never turns anyone down. He’s super personable and it’s just — it’s good. It’s good to have him here, and we hope to have him more in the future.”
Travolta’s recent activities also included attending the gymnastics events at the Bercy Arena in Paris with his daughter, Ella Bleu. They cheered on Team USA gymnasts, including Simone Biles, as they competed for medals.
