WHO I AM:

Hi I’m Claire, aka Ms Britaly! In 2018, I decided I wanted to change my life and relocate to Italy. I didn’t know anyone there, I didn’t speak the language and I had only visited the country twice before. Just eight months after I had made this decision, I packed up my suitcases and moved solo from London to Italy, embarking on my very first Expat experience. On paper it sounds completely bonkers but in reality it was the making of me.

On this channel I share with you the beauty and reality of everyday life, here in South Italy. I also share insider tips for visiting South Italy, so that you can get the most out of your Italian experience!

  1. I broke every rule the first year i moved here. It's only taken 40 more years to get it almost right. Auguri complimenti e buon ferragosto 🎉

  2. 'buon appetito' is not approved by the galateo, so it should only be used in informal situations, with friends or relatives

  3. Aggiungo, riguardo alla pizza gustata anche con le mani il famoso detto popolare “anche la Regina Margherita mangiava la pizza con le dita”. Cheers

  4. The only time I visited Italy, we were a group of 6 and we could never get the ordering sequence down. It wasn’t the American sequence of drinks-appetizer-main-dessert, with everyone ordering each step of the way at the same time. It instead devolved into a free-for-all, as waiters never approached us and took our orders in order, the way we expected them to; it’s like they just wanted us to call them over when an individual was ready to place his/her order. By the last day, it became a running joke when one of the guys had received his dinner before some of us had even ordered. No idea what we were doing wrong but we’ll be better prepared next time 🤷🏻‍♂️

  5. A few friendly remarks from an Italian: 1 please don't say "buon appetito", it's something only peasants used to do fifty years ago; 2 mopping the sauce with a piece of bread is very very very informal and you only do it in your own kitchen when you are a little kid; 3 eating spaghetti with the help of a spoon (or cutting it with a knife) will make everyone look at you pitifully thinking "clumsy foreigners". The remaining advice from the video is correct.😅

  6. No! Non ci si può aiutare con il cucchiaio per arrotolare gli spaghetti! Bruttissimo! Il "Buon appetito" non sembra educato nelle situazioni formali, però tra amici e parenti ma sì…perché no…Per il resto è tutto giusto

  7. Love the tips. Maybe another video for "Tips when shopping at the market and another for at the grocery store" would be nice.
