it is funny how many people from states are talking about trip to "europe" just to find out they visited one or two coutries max…..
A lot of comments are about Europeans taking their time for dinner. Let me say that when we go out to a restaurant we do take our time and it's not uncommon for people to spend 3 or 4 hours, eating, making conversation, enjoying being out.
We do not know the system of allotted time where you're sat down at 6 PM and expected to be gone at 8 pm so your table is available for the next customer that are booked for 8.15 PM. Such a system would be met with outrage over here.
i had almost an heart attack when he said 200° couse in europe is mostly used Celcius and not Farenight and to make an example like 48°C = more or less 100°F but than i realized i was wrong
The more I learn about the States from Americans, the more surprised I am that anyone wants to live there…
The main difference between a McDonald's burger in USA and one in Europe is that the one in Europe will spoil if you leave it out for a couple of days, while the one from USA will still be edible in a month because of all the additives. Also in most places in Europe, traditional fast food options use mainly unprocessed ingredients.
Just got back from 10 days in Spain. My friend was not a great walker, so this time I didn’t clock my normal number of miles. Even with eating bread and desserts, drinking beer etc, I came home 2 pounds lighter. We ate a ton of fish, shellfish and octopus.
Great video!
I can confirm most people here (Italy) consider wine just food. Like tiramisù, we are well aware that indulging in it isn't healthy at all. So we don't do that, or if we do, it's in moderation. Are we alcoholism free? Not at all. But it's relatively rare compared to the general consumption.
It's hard to find traditional meat in Europe? LMAO… Wth this guy is talking about???
You need to stay bit longer in Europe to learn more, because you got a few things really wrong.
Maybe it's not about gluten but about the pesticides that American grain is sprayed with.
1) Europe is not one country. It has also around 50 countries. Even countries that are similar – like Germany, Swiss and Austria who both have the same language – have different kind of meals. I know in USA there are 50 countries it's one state but European don't like the generalization. Each European country is proud to be unique. You were in Italy. It would be different if you visited other European countries too.
2) Eating depens mostly on which day. Friday/Saturday many people like to go out. Offices usually closes on Friday earlier and most people have Weekend (Saturday+Sunday) off. Of course there are people that work in shift work places. But many people may be senior citizen or other tourists. Or they had holidays just like you and your family.
3) We have harsh food controls and many persavities are banned here in Europe. Some countries are even stricter like Norway, Finland, Ireland, France, Germany or Austria. That's why we don't have sweets that are sold in Europe.
4) Same thing with 3. Years ago there was law from EU (=European Union) that products must reduce their sugar levels and even offer less suger-free and/or differend kind of sweeteners used in products. Like cola has different kind of sweeteners (Cola zero has Cyclamat and Cola Light has Aspartam and Acesulfam-K)
Whenever I go to Europe for work I generally go for 2-3 weeks. I eat whatever I want and I lose weight and feel so much better. We are poisoned here in the US.
About fat in food here in Europe, I believe (I've heard some nutritionists) that everything is a question of balance, eating fat one day or two is not a problem, if you eat everything (fruits, veggies, …) and healthy (natural) products. In the end you just should avoid eating fat everyday, and run away from industrial processed food !
That's really interesting to see the "American" opinions… it makes me pretty happy that we impose so many restrictions on food here in Europe and have definitely less sugar inserted. The video is certainly focussing on the mediterrean experience, but also central and nothern Europe have their own food specifics (what is probably more the US heritage), but still its simply healthier.
The way of life is also structured differently… walking more, using public transport, eating smaller portions, drinking more water… this is definitely a metabolism booster 😅
Almost none of what you said is true for 99% of europe. You cherry picked a lot.
europe is a continent, not a country. the mediterranean area is a lot different from more northern places. germany would be a lot closer to the USA in terms of use of processed foods and obese people walking around.
little info: the mcdonalds patties (at least in germany) are 100% beef. also the mcrib is a permanent menu item, due to the gigantic pork industry in germany.
I'm italian and my doctor warned me to never use supplements.
Iron deficiency ? Eat broccoli, spinach, etc.
Lack of vitamin D ? Go out more, don't stay always at home, at the mall, at the gym.
Always find the natural solution first: have a balanced diet, a bit of movement and a life outside work. If it's not an allergy, or an intollerance, or something health related, eat a bit (NOT A TON !!) of everything and you'll be fine.
I’m Italian, and I think that the thing that tourist miss to really understand why we are not all obese 😅it’s that they “experience” people at the restaurant, but our “secret” here in Italy it’s simply that we cook 😅 We don’t eat much processed food, we use very little delivery food, and we go to the restaurant once a week, this means that we cook almost 11/12 meals a week, with fresh ingredients cooked at the moment with a little olive oil and more rarely some butter (it’s a more French thing 😅). That’s it! We are used and we like to prepare our meals, so we always know what we’re eating.
Unfortunately in Germany, more and more people are also looking at their phones the whole time when they are together at a restaurant. Maybe that is different in other European countries. And there are big differences.
Great information
4:01 What ingredients should there be in French fries, except potatos, some sort of a vegtable oil and a bit of salt?
15:15 There's lots of suplements/protein in supermarkets at least in Portugal.
It is not in Europe, it is in Italy.
Guess you didn't go to Scandinavia and northern Europe. 🙂
France, Italy?
Bro was in like three countries and talks about the whole of Europe, lmao. Certified US American moment. Here in Germany for example you can get protein supplements in like every medium sized or bigger Aldi store, also obesity is a thing here, too. One thing that u feel he got right is the love for dairy products, I feel like that's a thing all over Europe.
Its all the shite they put in thier bread
If you want good bread in america, don't eat white bread try whole meal or granary
Europe is not a country, you should’ve said italian food. I’m portuguese and about 50% of our daily diet is diferent from Italy.
What friends who travel to the US tell me is that food quality has degraded over the last two decades.
An American comes to Europe and orders hamburgers…. Gtfooh m8!
In Italy my weight is completely average and common. When i visited usa people thought i was anorexic becasue i was so significantly thinner than most americans. Quite amazing how fat and unhealthy americans are, and how average healthy weight is seen as unusial and as if it is an illness..
You couldnt find fresh meat easily????
If I may say, as a central European kid born in 1982, in the early 1990's after the fall of Iron curtain we were looking up to the USA. Their freedom, their style, trends, music, TV/cinema … we just adored you.
But that was 30 years ago. Now I am so glad that we have our health and safety regulations that protect us. And our traditions that we don't want to lose.
I don't want additives in my food, I don't want sugar in bread and buns.
I guess it goes hand in hand that most of Europeans know how to cook, so we don't rely on processed food like in America.
You said something like "pre-cooked chicken breast" … that is something I can't fully understand. I just go to store, buy the chicken breast and then cook/fry/roast whatever it takes.
One thing to bear in mind regarding meal times and such in countries like Spain or France, especially in summer, is that 8 pm clock time is actually 6 pm sun time. Also more northern countries tend to eat earlier in the evening
In France you will find protein supplements in sports stores but also in pharmacies
Welcome to Europe, where we actually eat food
Food is much healthier in Europe bc they have banned a ton of disgusting additives.
It's hard or weird to get a patty of burger without the bun because typically restaurants don't sell minced meat (I don't know if it's the correct word).
Minced meat is seen as suspicious, because there could be anything in the mix, such as slaughter leftovers, and not the good meat.
In which countries have you been in Europe? Only Italy? I live in Europe and everything in the restaurants here is bathed in the damned seed oils. This has become a worldwide problem
