While the Italians may have mastered the arts of pasta, wine and gelato, they should have been spending less time in the kitchen and more in…another room. That’s right, we’re looking at the demographic problems facing Italy, and Genoa will be our example.

Goodbye Italy 🇮🇹
Italians are too racist to embrace a Canadian style immigration structure. They would rather die out
Hi Peter, big fan of yours, greetings from Turin!
Peter do video about country with democratic going opposite way. I’m right now in Philippines kids everywhere most poor but happy always smiling .
Hello Peter, you've discovered the hot water. However I am confident that a less overpopulated Italy will be in the future a better place to live.
1970s. Over population scare and political departure of family formation and values. And oh yes, global cooling. All declared by the progressives.
Nha, future is uncertain, it could all end up in a civil war.
Well based on this upcoming election, I'm happy to move there.
I just got back from Rome and my cousin told me how expensive housing is there verses their salaries, so I doesn't make sense that this is an issue. Also, energy is very expensive there, so the light analogy doesn't work. I was asked by my Air BnB host to shut off the AC and all of the lights when I left the apartment to go walk the town.
The problem's really apparent in Italy. we were in Bolzano last year and found this nice fountain in the city center. So we figured let's wait for a person our age (around 30-35) to take a great foto with our phone in front of this fountain.
No lie, we had to wait like 5min to run into a person that was not Boomer age. That's when it hit me that Italy lost it's vitality.
Peter, your bosses at the CIA and State Department have been pushing for depopulation since the 70s. And furthermore let’s not make every country into a version of NY. Populations enjoy a better wuality of life, higher trust and higher economic output when they live around people who are genetically similar to themselves. Immigration has destroyed western democracies and made them much more authoritarian and had a very populist backlash. Each western democracy is entering an age of tribal politics. Let Italy stay Italian. No need to turn it into Eritrea with pasta.
eeeep, thanks for calling out Canada-levels of immigration. I live in the bottom of the U of the Golden Horseshoe (Toronto around to Niagara Falls) where it seems the majority of the new 2M ppl are. House prices, rents, car insurance—uppa, uppa, uppa.
Summer jobs for Canadian students? Gone. Thirty year old International Students at certificate mills like Conestoga are all you see in Tim Horton's, McD, Uber delivery and trucks, punchin' the clock until they get PR. Wait until they see their sheepskins from Cancerstoga makes them unhire-able.
So dis-spiriting.
Is bitcoin still going negative?
It is interesting that industrial and post-industrial nations experiencing population decline, rather than condemning immigration, may have to compete for the “preferred” immigrants. Clearly immigrants with education, essential job or language skills and basic cultural compatibility can more readily adapt to a new country than those without. Transition-ready immigrants will be in high demand as a means of rebuilding the populations of nations facing decline. Immigration will be more essential than ever but the cultural impact may change host countries forever. The alternative is economic and cultural stagnation.
We have kids here in Utah, USA… I thought Catholics were suppose to have big families?
Having an infinitely growing population, be it from births or immigration doesn't work. You have to change the economic system.
There’s no traffic 🚦🚦🚗🚗🚗
Dear Peter , at 10 o 'clock everybody is outside socializing , your are not in boring hellhole north america….
Canadian style immigration is a death sentence to any country , look at Canada turning into
a third world country day by day …
Turned off lights aren't evidence of population drop but 2nd homes.
Look at London or NY as an example of this.
Great observations. Interestingly though we have lots uber wealthy Americans and Brazilians returning home having made their fortunes overseas. The tax system is very beneficial for Europe.
TV age is over! Folks in Italy don't hang around at home in the evening any more. Life is outside after dinner. After which, you go home to sleep.
Argentina, it is time to move home!
Here in the U.K. there are still seem to be plenty of da yufe.
The rouble is, just as in the U.S. vast swathes of them have been raised to be idiots who’re more easily controlled & monetised.
Think getting older happens !
What about giving descendants of the Italian diaspora paths to citizenship?
It is a wonderful study, why do you think accelerated urbanization has generated population structure that is so old?
You’ve been using writ large wrong. It means prominently or obviously whereas you meant to say ‘at large’ which means ‘generally’
red pill. Italian girls are the most pretentious of earth. Is not The economy the real problem. But this is a taboo argument obviously .
I’ve lived in Italy for over 16 years. This problem is nothing new, and it’s projected to get worse. It can only be fixed by massive immigration, or by convincing Italians to get married and have children. Only the second option will preserve Italian culture. No matter where the immigrants come from, they are not Italians, even if they have Italian heritage.
If the object is not to preserve Italian culture, but to keep a country viable and thriving with a solid tax base, then immigration is the answer. It should be easy to become a citizen (which it ain’t). I don’t know how you can have a collapsing population and still make it difficult for outsiders to come.
Interesting, this is the first time I've seen him acknowledge the reality of mass immigration replacing the people of a nation (extremely thinly veiled as "culture" even though his work is 75% about demographics). The next realization with people of some intelligence, is that this is the same thing as genocide, whether supported by the elite of a country or a wider political system such as the EU. Genocide, of any form, is absolutely morally reprehensible, *universally*, whether it is done in the guise of modern neo-liberal democracy supporting GDP or not. Severe moral lacking in many, many people.
