Every time Eva and I travel to Rome, she shows me around and picks what we eat. Makes sense, right? After all, Eva used to live in the Eternal City and has never led me astray thus far.

However, this time we’re switching things up! I’ve been doing my research and I have some bucket list Roman foods that I want to try. But I’m not if she’ll be super jazzed about all of my choices…

[Music] good morning from Rome today is a very special day you see normally when Ava and I come to the Eternal City she kind of takes me around she used to live here she has her favorite spots she introduces me to amazing food but today switching things up I’ve been doing my research and today I’m taking her for a day of eating around Rome everything have planned today is stuff that’s always been kind of on my Roman eating bucket list and I don’t think Ava’s going to be super jazzed about all of my choices but then again I’m not really a stranger to making Ava eat stuff that she doesn’t want [Music] to I think that’s most of the people maybe they don’t I think that most of the people maybe don’t realize is that we Italians never eat SE food for breakfast usually our breakfast is made with the very famous cortic cappuccino or it can be cookie and a tea but you are sure that it will never be safe well that’s good because I do have a Roman breakfast in mind that is sweet it’s not Savory but but how do you feel about whipped cream yeah so there’s this pastry that’s really popular here in Rome and uh despite seeing it uh in shop Windows a bunch of times I’ve never actually had one because a certain someone is not a big fan of whipped cream or cream in general I’ve been doing my research mhm I know all the Roman foods are hiding from me I’m not hiding again you think from you and just I took you to the place that I like to go and maybe avoided the things that I know that I don’t like [Music] that is a lot of whipped cream the maritu is this brage that’s traditional from Rome it’s a very PL plain Bri is not over sweet and in order to make it sweet they open and they put inside a lot of whipped cream I love the Bri the maritu by itself I don’t like the whipped cream inside who wants the first bite you you you’re not excited for your breakfast here I have to be honest it does seem strange and difficult to eat see it’s a messy food see it’s a I don’t even know how approach this you need just to bite into it okay yes it is messy do we get napkins no okay first tip if you’re going to get one of these get napkins what’s interesting is that the whipped cream is actually really not very sweet at all in fact I would say it’s barely sweetened it’s not like what I’m used to as whipped cream and I suspect correct me if I’m wrong that whipped cream in Italy is not made with heavy cream no instead what they use is a um it’s basically like an emulsified milk that they call Pana so it tastes different than heavy whipping cream this has a much more neutral mild taste and actually I kind of like it it’s good I can feel it so you need to take a shower after not the easiest food to eat but I like it better than a no you need the you need the cream haa you can’t just eat the I have passport here because I lived in this city for so long that I learned how to eat also those even if I don’t like them it’s a good brush the whipped cream is not good at all but actually I remember it sweeter this is yeah it’s very it’s it’s not super sweet no there isn’t any sugar it’s completely without sugar but by the way the by itself [Music] so I know we’re just getting started but uh if you could think of one word to sum up my culinary Tour of Rome so far what would it be so the name name of this place suito in Italian means suffering but it’s a plan words because what they serve here is suple now many of you are probably familiar with arini which are the super famous Sicilian street food they’re the fried stuffed rice balls and suple are like the Roman version of that and I’m only familiar with them because Ava put her recipe which is amazing in our brand new cookbook which is available for pre-order right now I’ll put a link down below and after having them I have to say I like them better than orangi don’t tell the Sicilians that’s a good choice this is a good [Music] choice so we decid to take the classic one the carbon one and the kaj pepper one the difference between AR Supply is a huge difference the way in which the rice is cooked is completely different the kind of rice that is used is different and also the breadcrumb outside is different as you can see this is a very rough homade bread Grumble what thean usually is more fine I think the biggest difference for me is how the rice is actually cooked in the sauce instead of like an arino where like the ru is just in the center of the arino they like actually cook the rice in the sauce another the difference is also the size because this is a supply size Gan let’s be honest they can be like three times this pretty good oh yeah get that cheese yeah that is called t t means that you can stretch the cheese and resemble like a telephone cord okay I want to try the carbonara smells like carbonara no actually it smells like sulate it taste like a carbonado it does taste like a Carbonaro it tastes very good the first one the classic one that was the better one that’s the way to go all that aside avas are even better sorry they are it’s not really surprising homemade is better but these are very very good see if you are in Rome and you need and you want to eat a sule you can go to Su because they know what they’re talking about yeah and that’s a good place because the problem with like a lot of these fried foods that people don’t really realize they come to Italy and whether it’s an arcino or it’s a suple they go into one of these shops and they buy them out of a shop window but you really want to eat them hot and fresh and so a place like this that actually Cooks them to order and makes them hot and fresh that is the way to go because this cold not good I would say we should go get another except for the line it will be it will be huge right now so after a delicious lunch of suple what in your ideal day in Rome would be the next stopel well good news because that’s where we’re going you’re going to eat the gelato yes and the bad news is it’s gelato with a [Music] Twist I’m very excited you’re excited that is one of the best gel yes so this seems like a good choice one of the best that you could ever do well you don’t know which flavor we’re going to get yet the best gel in the world and I take a flavor made with cheese chili pepper and ons okay chili pepper is not really doing it justice you need to explain is the pepper from Basilica north of Calabria that uh has a very intense flavor but is not chili and it’s fried so here there is fried pepper and there’s also Primo Sal cheese which is a very simple mild cheese I don’t even know if this is supposed to be like sweet or savory me Nei but I think they should be sweet sweet Sweedish [Music] I’m judging from your look that it’s the best gelato you’ve ever had in your life is very very very good yes it is is it sweet or S wait no don’t tell me let it be a surprise that it’s a surprise it sounds disgusting up is good I don’t know what I was expecting but that’s definitely not it oh oh I just got the chili pepper is good right that’s kind of great ever since Eva first took me to basilicata I have fallen in love with pepperoni krusi and they’re kind of why this works because like there’s a little bit of spice in this but pepperoni kuski are more sweet than spicy this is definitely sweet although not very as you said before what did you say like sweetish it’s sweetish um and also I can definitely taste the the cheese the Primo cheese kind of cheesec cakey and then you have the crunch of the almonds it’s kind of fantastic if this is how good their pepperoni kuski gelato is can you imagine what their pistachio must be like I can [Music] imagine there’s one other important thing that I really want to do this afternoon and it’s technically not food related actually it’s not at all food related but it is is an important Roman tradition and in all my times here I’ve still never done it so this is definitely on the bucket [Music] list okay do you want to explain what we’re about to do yes there is a place there is a in r that is called the B which means mouth of the truth what you need to do when you go there you need to put your hands in the mouth someone ask you a question you need to answer if you you are lying your hands it’s it’s cut off yes it’s a bloody experience okay oh ask me anything so do you think that I will enjoy our dinner this evening yeah yes okay all right good yeah let’s go to [Music] dinner so I made a reservation at a restaurant okay a restaurant that you’ve never let me go to you no I’m not kidding you you’re kidding me we’re finally here you can’t do this to me it’s okay for the money do okay for the gelato okay but this this is your destiny Eva okay so quick backstory SL recap for those who aren’t familiar years ago in a video Ava introduced me to fetuin Al Alfredo not fetuccini Alfredo fetuin Al Alfredo this this is the real fetuin Alfredo that’s from Rome and it’s a very simple pasta it is just very thin fetuin tossed simply in butter and parmesano cheese that’s it no cream no parsley no garlic none of that stuff it’s a very important dish for me personally because it was really the first time when I saw the power of Simplicity in Italian food and also kind of it’s an important dish for our Channel because uh I believe it was the only like English language video on YouTube about it and now it’s everywhere so it’s kind of an important dish for us personally despite this connection we have never actually come to the restaurant here in Rome where they invented this dish now you need to explain to the confused audience at home why you have always said no every time I’ve said let’s go eat at the let’s go eat the real fucina Alfredo because the fet Alfredo is the most simple pasta dish that you can imagine it’s the pasta dish that we eat to when we are sick the pasta dish that we eat to when we don’t have anything else at home going to a restaurant to eat what I eat a when I’m sick for me it’s out of the world but AA they invented it maybe they make it special maybe it’s better than all the rest it doesn’t matter but this one cost $30 I know so another it must be better there okay quick correction the fet Alfredo is only 24 years Chin [Music] Chin they gave you the whole dish huh they like yeah it looks like fuc Alfredo I hope so I hope so at the end we came here for this I hope so pasta how can you go wrong with b and yep it’s uh [Music] pasta yep that pretty much sums it up it’s extremely good as this dish always is and the good news is if you can’t make it here to this restaurant you can make it at home and you should and you should and uh you will have just as fantastic of it an experience so what do you think how’ I do on my food Tour of Rome I can give you six out of 10 six out of 10 see that’s way higher than I was expecting because at the end with the did a good job let’s be honest I had a great day I had a fun day too if you enjoyed the video please be sure to hit that subscribe button if you haven’t already follow us on social media ostrer and we’ll see you guys next time ciao okay now what do you want to go actually eat a it’s the time of a let’s go

  1. I would still love to know what it was. Ava asked Harper when he had his hand stuck in the face thing? I rewound the video three times and still couldn’t make it.😅

  2. We arrived in Rome/Trastevere on Monday and we're staying very close to SuppliRoma and Otaleg, so we've been able to try both. Super good suggestions. We loved the suppli and our traditionally flavored gelatos from Otaleg.

  3. So, like old home week, Otelag…..always a line when it’s warm out, Roscioli….never had their Maritozzo, but have eaten there many times….Next on the list, gonna run to Supplizio for a snack!! Alfredo’s…..the real thing!! And no cream!!! Bravo!!! It’s about the company and the experience you have….. i make it for my grandson all the time….Next time head down to Nonna Betta’s…their carciofo Alla Giada is awesome!!

  4. That last eatery… beautifully set table with nice silverware & linens, tables generously spaced, table side service. 👍 Bump yourself up a star!

  5. I am a home chef here in Texas. I’ve been watching you guys for a while now, love the quality content. Y’all are engaging and charming while teaching great , simple Italian cuisine. I just pre-ordered the book. Strong work ,keep it coming!

  6. The 2nd time that we went to Maiori we had aaranccini. They were the size of cricket balls, warm (ragu flavour) and amazing. I wish that I'd known about Suppli when we went to Rome in December 18 months ago.

  7. It is so funny to see Eva’s face while eating “Fettuccine Alfredo” and paying 24€ for that simple dish😅 I’m Italian and I live in Italy (near Brescia) but before YouTube i didn’t even know that this dish existed! I’m wondering how it becomes so popular outside of Italy, since it actually is that kind of dish you make at home when you are sick or you don’t have nothing else in the fridge 🤣🤣🤣 I personally would call it “un piatto da casa di riposo”

  8. Hey Harper I have a question for Ava. I just bought these sweet peppers that are from Italy. Are there anywhere from 6:00 to 8 in Long the green when they start out then they're chocolate and then they turn bright red. They say they have a hint of the Apple flavor as well tell me if there is a pepper by this name. Over here they call them Jimmy nardello's. What's the true Italian name they're not hot just sweet. Can you help me out my name is Ray I'm from Foley Alabama please help me

  9. Eva is so beautiful but more importantly I can tell shes a woman that would give you peace of mind brother god bless, dont ever let her go 🙏

  10. I'm not terribly surprised people going to Italy from the USA love the ice-cream there. For me, a guy from Poland, it's not that much of an attraction, since most popular ice-cream parlours in Poland make them the same way as in Italy and in Polish language they're just called "lody włoskie" meaning "Italian ice-cream". I have a few favourite places in my city that make amazing ones. And I also got pretty delicious ones in Croatia besides.

  11. That fettuccine Alfredo at the end. That presentation did not look appetizing at all. Seriously though, her dish looked like slop. 😕

  12. Harper you're looking more like J C with your long locks. You two are a perfect couple. Love your videos. My paternal grand parents came from the small town
of Ruiti in Potenza how about visit there some time to check out their local foods.

  13. Harper, although I appreciate your effort of bringing Eva to the place where the Alfredo dish started, this restaurant was sold to people outside of the De Lelio family in 1943. The good news is that he opened a new ristorante in 1950 that is still open on Piazza Augusto Imperatore that is still open… gold forks and with all the history of celebrities and world leaders having eaten there. Il Vero Alfredo.
As usual, we loved the video! Ciao!

  14. Crazy how this channel is less popular than Pasta Queen… Granted not saying shes bad but Pasta Grammar definitely puts far more effort into their videos yet they only are at 100k whereas she's at 1m… Seriously what's wrong with people?

  15. Why do Italian people complain about pineapple on pizza, but then they do all this shitty theatrical stuff for tourists and Instagram, maritozzi, pasta in Parmesan wheels, focaccia with stupid toppings that make no sense (it's not pizza) all the fettuccine Alfredo mixing at the table with Americans probably think is great, but it's a gimmick and a con to overcharge you. I'm glad the lady in the video is honest

  16. We are heading to Rome and then Naples in a couple of weeks and I am just overwhelmed trying to figure out what to do for food – we have touristy things planned but the food will be by the seat of our pants.

Eva had good reasons for not taking him to those places, other than the Suppli lunch. She knows what is good, and wanted her Harper to have the best food. I was laughing trying to keep up with her rolling off the actual 2nd dinner list in Italian. I am surprised his hand didn't get bitten off by the statue thing. Loved the video, those Suppli looked amazing!
