We taste one of the classic wines from Italy a Valpolicella
This wine is priced at £11.99 so is mid-range priced.
The wine is a nice ruby colour.
The nose is quite delicate, and you have to go looking for the nose.
The is a faint smell of cherry 🍒 with a sweetness at the end of the aroma.
Taste-wise there is slightly more to the taste than the nose.
The cheery comes through with a hint of chocolate.
This appears, on the first taste, as a wine that needs food to make it shine.
For The price, therefore, the wine is a little disappointing – what’s your view?

hi welcome back to Wine M Street we are going to taste an Italian wine one of the classics from Italy it’s a Val poy [Music] [Applause] cello okay so here’s the bottle looks very smart actually he very very Italian very Italian give you saw that on the Shelf is something you would ooh it looks the part doesn’t it does look the part it looks a little bit sophisticated and old and Italian I don’t know why I’m thinking that but you think Itali those big wooden doors that they have in their houses yeah that sort T fls oh yeah smell of foods I get that yeah now let me ru it for you this is the price that’s that’s not that’s not a bad price 11 more Marine for me than you 12 quid is that’s all right that’s all right it is it’s yes it’s well it’s it’s like in the mid-range is it you couldn’t call it cheap no not cheap but it’s by no way expensive and I’m going to say that confidently well of course it depends when you’re watching this video because obviously if you’re watching this video in 2030 then the inflation may have cheaper chips yeah yeah there’s that I mean if you like all right put into perspective I don’t know why you’d be watching at 8:30 at night no but if you if if if you went to even so much as your your local pub and you bought three drinks be a pint of double g&t and maybe I don’t know kind of cider what would that what would you be paying well I if you were in Venice and you were in this Mark Square you’d be paying probably double that for a glass so there we go horse course so you know in the grand scheme of things I don’t think $1.99 is too much okay well but but then we’ve not tasted it no we’ve not and we’ve not even looked at the color let’s do it let’s do it okay okay so I’m I’m going to go it’s kind of that Ruby nice bit of a ruby color on there not not quite not quite dark enough to get to the that garet but the Ruby I think is hitting that nicely it’s quite translucent as well isn’t it yeah it’s not it’s not it’s not deep and Rich and thick is it it’s it’s fine it all depends on the on the nose and on the flavor doesn’t so let’s have a go on the nose it’s it’s not really coming out you’re very strong sorry just using that especially with the wording though sorry apolog I apologize for um no you’re right it’s not it’s a so I’m getting a little bit of cherry but very very weak cherry and apart from that I’m not getting a lot else there there’s something I’m struggling too um you you’re sensing something else yeah there’s a there’s a Sweetness in there or something sweet towards the very end of it it’s not I’m not getting a fruit I’m I’m getting a bit of bit of a a foess but not in again not in a bad way I don’t know why that’s coming out me now but like a forest floor for or similar yeah but much more dumbed down dung dumbed dumbed not D no not D we don’t want that in our wine John I wouldn’t recommend it as you might it’s there’s like a a medley of something going on but it’s all coming into one it’s nothing nothing saying he’s the boss this is what this is this is we are if if I was um if I was at table someone else had chosen this one in important I I not that I think you know it’s it’s not offensive no no no it doesn’t smell interesting hopefully it’s going to be more on the pallet there’s going to be more on the pallette I think therefore we should have a go on the pallette I think we should well there is slightly more on the palette it’s still a struggle to get that out though still a struggle to find what’s in there well again I think because I’m thinking of it I’ve got the Cherry but there is like um I get I get I get the cherry and I get the I get the tartness of the Cherry mhm and there is just a hint of chocolate in there as well but it’s it’s it’s a struggle to find it yeah this to me is is coming across to me as something I’m immediately thinking I’d like to eat with this I’d like to have you know some we get to car in a minute but I’d like to have some food with this and and I immediately thinking of things I’d like to eat with this which is going to cuz without sounding horrible to there’s nothing wrong with I but I think the food would definitely improve this yeah sometimes it’s other way around the wine will improve the food all the jam together beautifully but I think this no offense to the way but I think this needs food to make the shine yeah and as always um you know just because it’s not hitting our buttons doesn’t mean say it’s not going to hit your buttons and while I talk about hitting buttons If you can press the like button that’ be great and one coming you got you you got to give him that one come on wow we’re pushing buttons that was amazing but he’s not wrong while pushing buttons but sometimes as it again we said sometimes you hadit tast you go back to the nose it can either do it good or bad and and again this is just yeah I feel like you know tonight we’ we’ve we’ fil we we’ve tasted a few other wines and I think the problem for for me is that those wines that we’ve tasted have actually a couple of them have been quite exceptional yeah and this isn’t exceptional it’s very nice yeah it’s not as it’s not as interesting as the wines and I think that that what I’m trying to say is that had we tasted some different wies to begin with that weren’t quite as impressive maybe this would be it may have swear us but we do try and come on each one you know like um you know the the first one one yeah but I think it it’s difficult for it not to swayers though but still the we have to come back to the fact that the nose she struggle to find anything that’s outstanding in there and then the palette there’s nothing that makes us personally makes me go wow or have you can you get that in there can you get that can you we’re going is is it that is it that and it’s a different enjoyment of the wine yeah yeah but it’s it’s by no means a bad one I’m going to definitely say that an again 12th grade yeah yeah so I think that’s one that has to be tried okay well let’s let’s move on to pairing do you want to go first sorry I I’m thinking uh Ary choke AR choke yeah with this like grilled Ary choke um alternatively again you know sort of a pasta you could go for sort of like a a grilled pked loin with this um and um you could go for some meaty pastas um you could Al yeah I would think you’d want the pasta to be or the sauce to be too heavy on the Tomato though cuz I I don’t think the acidity would go very well with this no I don’t think they that you say not too heavy on the on so so cheese wise I’m going to have to it’s going to need something that’s going to take away those tanins for me cuz the tannins are holding it back slightly as well so it’s one I recommend frequently but the kage guer C guer is like um almost like a doctor to some wines that are not quite there you know just helps them puts it on the shoulder and carries them along I pr tend to think of that as a nurse I bet you do and I think of it as a doctor so so I would say something K guer would just match out nicely yeah that’s down to seniority doctors and nurses is whatever whatever I’m going to leave that there John can get excitable so scores scores on the doors okay mhm so this is £1.99 it’s £12 so it’s not horrifically priced but I’m judging this it’s not but I’m judging this um personally what I think of it you know the price 12 gr there it’s all right so I’m I’m going to go with uh I’m going to go 79 oh you’ve been very I said 72 okay but that but then I I think you’re just more generous than I am well I think where I was going was actually I started off at 76 and then I thought well actually I think what I’m doing is because of the other wines we’ve had I’m letting that influence me too much and then I was thinking of some of the other wines I’ve given sort of 79 to and I thought actually yeah be fair to it I believe for me that score it’s first score I do feel that like sometimes I do think what I scored and and then kind of comparing that in my mind but and as you said the ones we’ve had already may have influenced just slightly but I think as I say on a personal level that that is my scarf yeah fair enough okay guys uh well if you get to try this wine let us know what you think uh if you’ve got some other suggestions in terms of paring let us know that as well and so until the next time when hopefully we’ll be more impressed with the next one it’s still very nice wine though it’s not there’s nothing wrong no one’s going to complain with that Chin Chin Chin Chin Chin Chin
