gunned down in the room by Ruto and two Montreal Hitmen Ruto came home to to Montreal now Mafia celebrity and across the next two decades his family would see a major rise as arguably the most powerful organized crime group in the world having a Global Outreach and loyal crew who kicked up Millions per month but then in 2002 the RCMP would kick off project k a major surveillance operation it’s January 19th 2004 Pao jasi is shot to death in his car by Carmelo tomasino who’s accidentally shot in the murder plot jasi second in command jepi deito a member of the Ruto Clan then murders thomasino and burns his body in the woods following the death of his kappo D Vito and his Lieutenant alesandro Suk capan grew a sense of disdain towards vut’s Clan began to turn on them they stopped kicking up any Street tax to the Boss by this point in time the RCMP had been running their major surveillance operation project k for 2 years and had amassed bundles of evidence against the organization the consens a social club was now known as the assol and was still the main hub for the local mafiosi meanwhile the aradi crew still met at the lenic bar while other Mafia hotspots were just as active as ever and not too long afterwards everything would change only a day after jassi’s murder Ruto was arrested in Montreal on the words of banano boss Joe MSO MSO had been a key player in the new york-based family’s day-to-day operations following Philip rastelli’s death however he’d been facing a slew of legal trials beginning back in 2002 and the potential for the death penalty was now on the table as a result of his mob business and so he flipped and named Ruto as one of the gunmen in the three kappo murder that had taken place 23 years PRI MSO was the largest US organized crime figure to ever flip and with his testimonials in hand nuto became Canada’s largest crime figure to be arrested a Brooklyn grand jury indicted the Montreal boss for murder lone sharking and racketeering and he was now being threatened with extradition to the US he began a legal battle against the possibility of extradition and so while he was busy in the courts and behind bars someone had to be appointed to lead the organization in his place [Music] a team was made up of Nicolo Ruto conier Pao Renda under boss Roco Cito family Captain Franchesco aradi and family enforces Lorenzo Giordano and Franchesco Del Balo all high earning well respected mafiosi who formed a committee of six to run the family with Nicolo at the helm of it all suddenly the mafia’s choke hold over the drug Market began to slow die out a lot of gangsters who used to operate under the zuto calculated and unifying style of leadership began to split off and do their own things men like d Vito and suuk capan which began to cause a rupture within the underworld with time three rival drug factions arose across Montreal the deito Supan crew a Southshore gy crew and of course the cartel it’s now April 18 2004 Len Giordano is dining at the globe a high-end Steakhouse just outside of Milton Park at The Establishment however he runs into Essie NAD noruzi an Iranian drug dealer who’ stopped kicking up to the Ruto in an attempt to distance himself from them become a major independent player in the narcotics trade noruzi had been selling his heroin below the Ruto market price an early sign of rebellion and so Giordano and the Iranian got into a fight with Giordano stabbing noruzi who out a pistol Giordano managed to grab the pistol away from him and castrated him with it although the mafioso wasn’t legally punished du noruzi silence on the shooting the shooting was looked down upon by Rena who saw Giordano as a drunk guard and was angry that he’d left the Iranian alive and given him the opportunity to flip if he wanted to by 2004 Ren had become a major player in the family practically running the day-to-day directly on the Nicolo and solito between early 2004 and mid2 2006 Linda was seen by the police visiting the Stan Leonard Cafe over 660 times rarely speaking while there the family had connections in deep layers of the greater Society companies like Air Canada and John Scotty import around a/4 th000 kilos of coke through the Pierre Elliot Trudeau airport and they gave the role of overseer to Ray Cano can was able to get connected to the airport through another arari crew mate Rulo Neo who knew to C and Air Canada employees Marco serone Emanuel cachero Tor also worked under another major cocaine shipping job moving 300 kilos of product through the airport with five arade soldiers Petro damoo Angelo Fano Domingo L Carlos nvz and Franco pelino meanwhile they had secret hidden gambling dens set up all over the city’s borrows run by Ruto family bookmakers the family’s top men met at the cafe over 600 times between 2004 and 6 where money was passed around and distributed phone calls were made events were discussed a major Construction and tycoons were brought in to kick up to Nicolo the family was quietly bringing in money and although it was by the millions it was still less money than [Music] ever on March 9th of 2005 one of Gregory wy’s soldiers Terry buin murdered Mike Lola at the Mumba Club in Laval during an argument the club secretly overseen by lanic crewmate jeppi feta was the scene to a brutal shooting that left vibrin and Lola dead at the cafe aari was caught trying to deescalate the shooting and avoid allout war with his drug associate Wy while solido was trying to tell him that there was no way to reason with the Crackdown policy fortunately a war was avoided at the end of it all on August 11th 20 6 local union representative Giovani bero was walking out of the Metropolis gym in Rivier de Prairie when he was sprayed with automatic gunfire buta was a family lone shark drug Pusher and painters union representative who’ recently gotone out of a 4-year long drug trafficking stint in prison after getting out and finishing his parole period buta decided to return to the streets of Montreal going back to work in his neighborhood slinging Coke however in the four years that he’d been away his area had fallen under arad’s wing who upon learning that Vero was back to work warned him Vero ignored the warning and was shot dead for it however the murder also hurt another man rold de jardan who was close to bero and oversaw the man’s operations de jardan began turning against the family following this despite his connection to the old boss and problems began Brewing as a result aradi was one of Montreal’s top mafosi now that Ruto was facing the courts he oversaw most of the family’s drug operations and had a heavy hand in other Industries however unlike the old boss he was a wild and anger ridden man recklessly caused problems for the mafiosi around him at some point during the RCMP surveillance operation an East Montreal drug trafficker named Luigi deiko who’ been an illegal immigrant for 50 years by then and the main operative of the gry based drug crew fell into a new conflict with the clan after failed marijuana Venture back in 2004 Deo had been trying to move some $900,000 worth of marijuana into the us working with the Hell’s Angels club from grandby but for an unknown reason the shipment failed and the money was lost someone had to pay up it wasn’t going to be Deo arari however had an issue and that was the fact that he aligned with the Hell’s Angels who unfortunately for him were working with Deo on this deal it was thrown into a conflict he struggled to pick a side on and he wasn’t sure which side to believe this was aside from the fact that the ma fosi now had less money than ever before as a result of the changing World they were now in with time the street conflict grew into some net $9 million worth owed to over 20 some different men and nobody had that kind of money floating around Deo met with Arad at to soad Zone and caused an argument in which aradi insulted him and Deo threatened right then and there to cut his head off on Halloween night October 31st 2005 Nicolo varali was standing out on his porch in a hunt sick passing out cand to trick-or-treaters four men in Halloween masks approached him grabbed him from the porch threw him in a car and sped off a note was left behind with a threat AR either had to cough up the $9 million sum or risk vali’s life there’s nobody that’s touchable everybody’s touchable you think you might be you you might be Untouchable but I’ll tell you something you’re going to have a lot of surprises later a recording was sent to aradi taken by vali’s captors of the man ranting for over an hour regarding the state of the mafia and how things were unfolding in Montreal varali told aradi that he wasn’t an Untouchable man and that the man at the such a zon shouldn’t try raising an armed conflict against the Deo cell or else a war worse than the Iraq War would spill into the streets he continued on saying how the bosses would collect their money without getting their hands dirty and that he himself was ready to die for the cause of honor at any time arot was caught at the social club complaining panicked about how he had no idea what to Do Not only was he confused regarding his alliances but he also admitted that despite everything going on nobody had enough money quote there’s no money now just leftovers eventually in December of that same year vakali was released without a paid off Ransom but the South Shore cell wasn’t finished with aradi shortly after the hostage was freed Sergio picer walked into the Ruto club with his gun drawn and threat to clip Nicolo a street war was erupting and arade became too afraid to even leave the cafe where he was recorded admitting that he was afraid of the Deo soldiers and that he believed if he stepped outside jit would shoot him at first the duto captains had underestimated the demo Clan but now the pages had turned it was becoming increasingly clear that the new century had brought changes with it and their Clan despite having money and being strong was still poorer and weaker than ever men like aradi and Giordano were caught in RCMP surveillance cameras leaving Mafia Hangouts with the handguns drawn and out a few days after pach da walked through their doors a group of Ruto soldiers flew a helicopter above the home of one of deo’s sons pointed an AK-47 from the doors of the vehicle and fired into the roof of the home meanwhile Ruto hired a group of Venezuelan Hitmen to take out Deo and his sons it looked like a drug war was coming to Montreal streets as vakali said worse than the Iraq War [Music] aradi was leading the family into a major war with the Deo Clan and although the Ruto family would have won the war by definition of their size and artillery the deos were clearly very bold men who willing to die for their cause and it’d be likely that the Ruto would have lost some key members to the street War as such a settlement was finally reached the $9 million debt out on the street was settled by a fire $5 million agreement and the oncoming drug war was avoided however the very fact that a rival Italian Clan was willing to even consider a street war with Nicolo Ruto and aradi was bad enough on its own and that’s aside from the fact that the mafiosi were struggling with their finances they were signs of a shifting gang landscape and a shifting world around them as a result of veto’s legal troubles if he was extradited to the US and imprisoned there it’ spell disaster for the clan meanwhile in the Fallout the Deo conflict things went back to normal in Montreal and over in lavala as well where delzon Giordano continued meeting at the lanic bar between November of 2004 and 2006 kis surveillance cameras caught jordano at the lanic 221 times while Del Balo was there over 541 times almost once per day every day for 2 years from there Del Balo Giordano ran a major internet gambling operation which had begun back in the late ’90s in order to get clients for the operation to P got potential gamblers through a telemarketing service they owned with anywhere between 30 and 60 employees getting customers for their page in order to avoid the prying eyes of the RCMP of course K being unknown to them the mafosi had the site registered all the way south in Biz in 1999 the kenak Mohawk Reserve was given their Online Gambling License and in order to keep things Closer To Home El B on Giordano had the page registered there by 2004 the site had some 1,600 users and over the next year it grossed the massive $26.8 million after Nicol loar’s kick Del Balo Giordano and the others involved in the scheme collected heavy wages however Del Balo was a man who got high off his own Supply between 01 and 03 he lost over 5.1 million to the casino de moral but it didn’t really matter to him since he was laundering the cash anyways he’ bet some 7.6 million over the years and retained 2.5 of it which he was able to report as legitimate income due to his gambling winnings also allowing him to hold hundreds of thousands at a time without any legal concern he was smart enough to bet under 10 grand a night the maximum amount of money one could bet before the financial transaction Center got involved this is aside from the fact that the 5 million could be made back at any time you wanted he was a major player in the clan still bringing in heavy cash with every operation all it had take was an investment to a drug shipment and the money would be back without any concern and that’s what Del Balo plan to do with Richard Griffin a wannabe gangster in Montreal’s West [Music] Side Griffin was a member of the Loosely organized West End gang a small grouping of Irish gangsters across Point St Char notredam de grass moral way in Griffin Town Griffin was a flashy dresser an ambitious money maker from NDG who in recent years had become obsessed with the idea of becoming a major gangster and wanted to get in deep with the Ruto Clan he and Del balza were planning on organizing a shipment of some 1300 kilos of coke to be transported from Venezuela and it was financed by both men the scheme was organized by a man named Frank fi an air can the baggage handler who knew the mafios through Del balo’s online gambling site although holding m massive sums of money in overseas accounts fatini often lost hundreds of thousands to his gambling addiction and in 2004 built up a debt of 823 Grand to Del balzo which he falsely claimed he couldn’t pay off on December 15 fi was draged to the lanic by Del balzo Giordano and their buddy Micha Lola and beaten severely all caught on kis waps fi worked with Del Balo and Griffin to organize the coke shipment and things kicked off to a good start both gangsters had invested over a million each into the thing and they traveled up from Venezuela to New York without a hitch however as the coke traveled through bushville a suburb of longay officers caught wind of the operation seized the shipment and took it in their money was lost and the drugs were gone and both men were angry at feli for not taking the proper precautions a lengthy discussion was held regarding who was entitled to the first reparation payment which soon enough turned into a full-blown conflict on June 27 2006 fi ended up paying Griffin first giving the man a compensatory sum of 350 G’s which angered the Sicilian to no end on July 12th less than a month later Griffin was standing outside his home in notan De glass and a group of Ruto underlings would gun him down with an AK-47 and then the money just kept pouring in [Music] it’s November 25 2005 Francesco Del Balo gets a call from casimo chimenti the owner of the Montreal based Loria supermarket chain chimenti explained to Del Balo that he’ invested some 300 Grand into nor Shield a scandalous hedge fund operation the north Shield scam was operated by John zanakis a man who didn’t even have a financial degree who would collect his investors money transfer into foreign accounts and lie to them to stall for time when they did come to collect their money zanakis would make it clear that they’d have access to it soon but no one ever got it back zanakis owned some 11 corporate entities under the north Shield title which had now become one of the largest hedging firms in the world and one of the largest hedge fund scams in history when senar a fraudulent animated film company invested some 120 million into norshield the Ontario Superior Court told them it was likely they’d never see any return even when they did take zanakis and his associates to court and the same was happening with chimenti a man who knew very well of Del balo’s collection tactics and wanted him to put them to use Del Balo called up Vincent CA zakus his former partner and arranged a meeting with the financial Mastermind at a law office downtown the day of the meeting came around and alalo Giordano and nvz took the elevator up to the tall office complex before arriving at the legal firm where ca brought them to zenis and left the room zenis tried explaining to them that he couldn’t refund chanti’s cash since the money was frozen in an offshore account but they didn’t find his excuse set his Factory a few minutes later Del Balo called CA from the lobby who went to check on zanakis and found the man on the floor of the meeting room beaten so badly he was pissing blood Del Balo asked Casto when zanto dakis was going to pay up and coua explained to him that the man didn’t have any cash left since he hadn’t finished liquidating according to sanakis himself strangely enough a while later Zenus even took a polygraph test to prove to Del balzo that he was telling the truth which only angered the mafio so more numerous men were putting pressure on him to get their cash back and he needed to act fast on March 8 2006 Del balzo Giordano and nvz were brought to court after zanto dakis press charges and now Renda was bothered by his behavior the charges were dropped after Zeno deus’s life was threatened and eventually the Securities regulator halted North Shield’s operations and zanakis was charged almost 200 investors lost a collective sum of 130 million the mafia Associates being among them a very similar situation hit Del balo’s plate nearing the end of 2005 but this time things went much differently Del Ballo had been sent out to cover a loss of 2.5 million under Rivier the Prairie business man magdi saman who’ also established the fraudulent investment firm that had promised High rates of return under bizarre Investments like jewels and sugar but no one was seeing their money back and some of Del balo’s friends were not happy on November 29 saman tried drowning himself at his home pool but he survived on December 19 Del Ballo tried getting saman to have his massive $4 million home mortgaged in order to pay off his debt and installments on December 25th Christmas Day San was found lying on the floor of the motel Florence and empty bottles of alcohol and pills lying all over the place he killed himself in response to the mafia’s threats not too long afterwards his wife mortgaged the home the situation was settled with no violence on Del balo’s part the home was mortgaged by m Financing lval based firm under the rcmp’s radar due to their money laundering operation ations which they did mostly through mortgages Tor worked under the company as a director while cousin Carlos shafa co-owned it the company seized properties and gave out loans with extortive interest rates while laundering the money through legitimate Investments such as a $352,000 villa in Acapulco which was owned by Del balo’s wife keeping in line with the mafia’s money laundering system in February of 2006 do Balo approached chimenti and asked to be registered as a paid employee of legoria in order to enjoy the employment benefits it brought about 20 minutes after that conversation shafa called up the enforcer and told him that he’ll be receiving his first paycheck the following week while dealo finished the transaction by paying shafa 7200 bucks split across six installments paying him for each check and T4 slip the day that the mafiosa got his papers the two jokingly agreed over the phone that he’d been working at the company for 4 years with Del Balo sarcastically saying time FL lies as an explanation meanwhile his gambling game at the casino was going hard and he was losing by the Millions for the most part he’d been a very cautious man but in December of 2005 he made his first major mistake that night he’ visited the casino with two buddies George Dean and Ariel Hassan lavish businessmen who had major Holdings in real estate and luxury fashion both major markets in Montreal that night the men was setting up a scheme in which Del balso would give the businessman man cash who would use it to buy chips the mafioso then played a group of these chips onto the table while the businessman placed extra bets for him eventually however security approached him and banned him from bedding the rest of the night as he’ spent over 10K Cad and the Gangsta began secretly slipping bills to his Entourage the casino cameras caught him on tape and an RCMP investigation began into his ties to the businessmen but everyone stayed tight lipped enough with Diane openly lying about his acquaintance to the mafioso however the same couldn’t be said for Felix Plass Montreal real estate agent in November of 2005 Renda intercepted an angry letter sent to plas from a mafia related businessman who was annoyed by the fact that plas had not only directly claimed that the businessman by name was an associate to the family but that P himself claimed so was he except that he wasn’t Del Balo putting on a much more civil tone called plas up and told him he had to see him fast the businessman told him that he’ so properties owned by two mafiosi in the past and the two agreed to hold a peaceful sitdown and a mafia owned Pizzeria on deari Boulevard near kot the very next morning Del Balo reported back to Renda that turns out the same man who shared the letter with the mafioso had done this before and the problem was eventually settled through a confusing misunderstanding do you ride with [Music] [Applause] [Music] me it’s August 17 2006 vuto was brought before the court and is extradited to the United States he’d been suffering from a 31 Monon long legal battle by then and his crewm mates at the Zone had stepped in to fill the void of his leadership as a result things were failing and they were failing quickly add salt to the wound the RCMP had had their eyes on the social club the lenck bar and other Mafia related properties for years by then in unknown to the gangsters something huge was coming but for now it was bad enough as is vuta was driven down to the Montreal dval Airport by two RCMP officers and he told them that they would regret getting rid of him and that with aradi in charge of the Mafia the underworld would flip he denigrated what was to come of his family and he knew that the future didn’t look too bright it’s now August 23rd do Balo is drinking at the cavali restaurant and bar in downtown Montreal straight he’s there with Giordano and their friend Char an a hell’s Angel’s associate before an becomes too drunk to handle he instigates a fight with the mafosi grabbing Del Balo by the throat before he’s forced out of the restaurant after getting out anol began walking to his car car but Del Balo was enraged at the offense he’d been shown gordano exited the establishment pulled out his handgun and opened fire on an old Porsche filling it with bullets and almost hitting the biker not too long afterwards cops were all over the area and then already angry and drunk Del balzo was now even more Angry as he watched them lead Giordano away he opened the phone with a friend and began drunkenly threatening to shoot up the cops while his buddy managed to calm him down things continued that downward spiral until August 30 when Domenico Mari one of arad’s nephews was gone down he was driving in His Cadillac one that resembled arcadis while sitting alongside Mario yanito they were driving through Rivier de Prairie with a motorcycle carrying two armed men sped by the Cadillac Marchi watched as the cyclists shot their guns into the side window killing him and injuring yanito with the shot to the neck they’d been on the way to pick up aradi and at the moment nobody knew who’d done it but as they would soon learn The Man Behind the murder was an old frankophone friend of Ruto that same day the mafiosi met at lanic and our CMP officers listened in as the men panicked over what had happened the following day their bosses came to the bar to plan an appropriate response and they solemnly discussed what to do at the meeting aradi referred to the administrative panel as the father Son and Holy Spirit adding a religious meeting to their work as mafosi Renda began making funeral preparations before turning his attention to aradi the actual Target of the shooting Renda told him that he should take his wife and flee to an island and aradi decided he’d go back home to Italy with his brothers at the funeral about 6 days following the slaying Del Balo met with his father Jiro senior and his brother J LMO and his father complained about how the newer generation of gangster wanted more money than he could even support Del Balo realized that it may have been Mari last week but next week it could be him not too long afterwards the mafiosa called up straight manufacturing a major Ontario based armored vehicle producer in ordered a Nissan Pathfinder and Toyota 4Runner that were capable of surviving AK47 shots over the next 2 months the lanic crew spent most of the day inside the bar surrounded by bodyguards arming themselves and discussing weapons when they did have to leave they never left without a gun on them on September 12th the Montreal PD raided a warehouse garage owned by Del Balo where they found two semi-autos a machine gun and a shotgun only a few days earlier they’d been surveilling the facility and had caught an interesting scene feta and a group of lanx strong men examining a set of weapons and testing them out it was a sign of a coming Street War and the RCMP officers on K realized they had to act fast on October 27 aradi came home from Italy with his wife and moved out to a small Woodland Cottage he owned in the southern Quebec Municipality of Hemingford it’s now the cold early morning hours of November 22nd 2006 [Music] [Music] some 700 officers are dispatched across Montreal Laval and the surrounding borrow going into offices cafes homes and warehouses and raiding tons of ammunition money narcotics and more importantly gangsters veto watched from the US as the Montreal PD in R CMP came after the family in a massive blow one of the largest against the crime family in history Del balzo Renda solito deito and Nicolo Ruto were taken in as well as the entirety of the lanic crew Associates and Street soldiers Jano watched El balzo Tor Koo and feta all being taken in immediately fled town he had his head died black and had a secret plastic surgery operation to change his appearance before running off off to Toronto now a fugitive the sports books drug operations online websites vending rackets and more were all halted by the police as they arrested every man involved acmp officers drove up the snowy Countryside road to arad’s cabin and after spotting them pulling up he got into his car and tried to flee before crashing into a ditch officers cuffed him up and raided the home where they found cachets of illegal Weaponry the mafiosi were held at the Bordeaux jail as they watch their friends family members and Associates get put behind bars suddenly in the span of a day the entire operation had been slammed shut meanwhile over in New York in May of 2007 MSO was brought forth to testify against Ruto but the Montreal boss decided to plead guilty instead thus avoiding any trial regarding the three Capo slaying the boss pleaded guilty to conspiracy plus a set of racketeering charges and even at admitted to being present at the 1981 murder but only admitting to yelling it’s a holdup instead of actually being a gunman Ruto got a 10-e long sentence which was to be followed by a 3E long supervised release the Ruto Clan was in pieces and the market had become a wide open domain for
