no matter how many photos and videos you look at of it there’s nothing like seeing it in the flesh but wait Barcelona is amazing but it’s also slammed with tourists and those tourists do plenty of things that really they shouldn’t like getting trapped in this Ultra touristy part of the city or obsessing about getting into these famous restaurants or thinking they can just queue up and buy a ticket for the sagarada Familia oh no but look I get it how would you know all this well that’s where I come in I’ve come to Barcelona to give you the inside track on how to visit the city right and I’ve enlisted the help of two Barcelona friends and local experts famed five-star private tour guide Patrick and local food journalist Tyra and together we’re going to show you seven things you should not do when you visit Barcelona plus we’re going to give you local transport tips three non-touristy neighborhoods you need to visit and an incredible restaurant recommendation where I had one of my best meals of the last year so you can visit Barcelona more like a local and less like a tourist so I know you didn’t bring me here to see the sagaria so why have you brought us here we’ve been talking about getting around and seeing the city like a local you definitely want to do but there are places despite how touristy they are like the cigara Familia that you just have to see the problem is you can’t make any bookings at the site you have to do them online beforehand so you can’t just turn up and book and if you do well if you try what you’ve got right now there’s no lines you’ve got time tickets to get in and you know what time you need to show up for okay but if you show up and you don’t have a ticket they’re not letting you in they’re going to send you actually to the same page that you should have gone on already before and then make sure that you can make your booking for that time so how long in advance should we book The sagaria probably about a couple weeks in advance and you’d be fine okay but possibly the question really on everyone’s lips is or Minds when is this going to be finally finished it’s a really good question question and I wish I had an answer for you the original plan was 2026 but with everything that’s happened in the last couple years things have changed they say now maybe the top Tower be done in 2026 and who knows maybe 2030 everything’s done so you still have time in other words guys to see it under construction okay great tip Patrick what else have you got for us don’t take one of these hang on what these taxis what’s wrong what’s wrong with taxis poor taxi drivers now it’s not that you shouldn’t ever take a taxi in fact I would probably recommend recomend it a lot of times when you’re trying to get over to places like the park well that are a little bit further away but you’re here in Barcelona to experience and see the city and the best way to do that is walking and if you don’t want to walk you’ve got the metro public transportation that’s super cheap and easy to get around it’s true that whenever I go to a city for the first time I’m a little bit nervous about taking like the Metro it feels like it’s going to be really complex and hard but once you take it a couple times it’s so easy right yeah and when you’re here there’s specific Metro tickets that you need to know about okay that I don’t know about all right let’s go some of my best friends are taxi drivers there’s nothing wrong with it it’s totally okay you can see you’ve got the normal ticket for one ride which is going to be €240 okay obviously not the best price to save money what you want to do and what used to always be the best ticket is what they call the te casual is 10 rides problem is they’ve changed it to where basically you can only use it for one person you can’t share it amongst your group so if you do want to share what you can do is go over to the family card and you get eight rides for € but you can share them and what time does the Metro close if people are out late so during the week the Metro is going to close at midnight Fridays you’ve got till 2 and then Saturday it’s all night so just follow me and I’ll okay but you want to go in on the on the right so if you put it in there it’s this one oh wow okay so tip if you put it in here don’t go here if you put it in here go here go through on the [Music] right the S familiar Metro Station is like we are all beta versions of ourselves everybody’s kind of stumbling through through the turn Styles they’re not working nobody knows what ticket to buy okay the next mistake is a really easy trap to fall into for me this is this is where you have to start right I just love all of the history the things that you can see got a cathedral that was built in the 13th century right behind me and there’s all these little hidden gems everything to explore but it really gives you the context for the rest of the city the gothic quarter is a must visit it’s full of mysterious winding medieval streets and hidden secrets so you come over here we’re actually at the viceroy’s palace which is a 16th century building put in for the governor basically of the city when the king or queen wasn’t here but it was built with stones from the old Jewish tombs that were found over at monji from the cemetery and so you’ve got things like the Hebrew inscriptions yeah just right in there wow but just like the nearby historic born neighborhood too many tourists get stuck in this part of the city and never explore further a field so here are three less visited neighborhoods you should check out in addition to the gothic order and the born first you’ve got graia which is just a 25-minute walk from the city center it’s like its own little village within the city with laid-back rhythms and beautiful plazas or poano which is just up the beach and now becoming the tech and startup headquarters but it still maintains its local Vibes and finally San Antonio which has a beautiful turn ofthe Century market and lots of great places to eat thanks Patrick and coming up we’ll explore San Anton with Barcelona food journalist Tara and we’ll eat in some local spots that many tourists don’t really know about but first Patrick’s fourth and final tip the fourth thing you don’t want to do when you’re here is forget you’re in Catalonia okay there’s so many different cultural Traditions that are here so what do you think are three kind of things that people can do to really explore those sort of the local traditions and the local culture here well I think the first thing is got to be learning the language just all of it like all of Catalan try to get it all out there right a lot of pressure guys like when you’ve learned Catalan you can come visit yeah what’s please and thank you please and thank you uh please is going to be PL uhhuh and then thank you is very similar it’s gracias okay spelled a little bit differently and it also doesn’t have the Spanish or the Castilian gracias okay so gracias or Meri you can say as well right Meri yeah they took from the French and kind of just made it their own okay what’s the second one the second one is going to be to make sure you get to all the different festivals throughout the year TR there neighborhood like graia that neighborhood you mention a FAL each year you can go and really enjoy that local neighborhood Festival that’s that’s the kind of thing you’re talking about yeah I mean the Gracia Festival is probably one of if not the best that you have throughout the whole year it’s in every August um but there’s festivals basically every single month in different parts of Barcelona and you do videos on your channel little plug for for for Patrick’s Channel where you say what’s coming up this month in Barcelona yeah I put out a guide every month so you know what is going to be going on make sure you can get to the different festivals events anything that’s going on in the city cool what what’s number three try the local Cuisine yeah right make sure that you get and try out maybe escalivada which is one of my favorite dishes it’s smoked veg vegetable yeah eggplant red pepper onion grilled usually served cold Sometimes some goat cheese or the bouti Fara the white catalon sa the world’s best sausage yeah with my taste buds tingling I bid farewell to Patrick and the next morning I meet up with local food journalist and friend Tara she divides her time between writing about Barcelona and Catalan Cuisine and also running her culinary Center in The Fez Medina in Morocco with cooking classes and private dining so if you’re hitting that way I’ll drop the link below so tyarra is going to take us to three places in her neighborhood San Anton to eat and drink and she’s going to share with us three things that you should not do when it comes to Barcelona’s food and wine sink and her first one is well a little bit controversial so darl where have you brought me today and why uh so we’re at the Mercat s Anthony and I’ve bought you here instead of the bokara the barara is of course Barcelona icon a total institution but if you want to explore a local market we’ve got 48 of them in different bios and this is where you’ll get a sort of a much quieter experience more interactions with locals and you’ll be able to see the produce yeah the Bader is amazing but it’s gotten a little touristy these days so instead visit a true Neighborhood Market like this one just remember to buy something these aren’t museums so what would you do on a typical kind of like I don’t know Market morning what do you recommend people do well I would come fairly early um on a Tuesday or a Wednesday sort of start of the week Mondays is a day off for a lot of people so that’s good to know yeah um I would do maybe my shop for the week what I’m going to make for dinner maybe stock up on cheese chaku Catalan long Ana maybe a piece of fish um and then afterwards I would go and have a coffee and Es morard Foria which is like uh the Catalan very very hearty Fork breakfast the Catalan Fork breakfast is one of life’s true Joys so we head over the road to famous Market Bar and restaurant cilo run by Fran and his family for decades okay so canaro is one of the most famous places for the esor the Foria the fork breakfast it’s neither breakfast nor lunch really it’s you know it’s proper hearty rib sticking food so it’s stews it’s grilled Meats it’s eggs it’s beans it’s all sorts of things see that everybody seems to have an entire bottle of wine at their table so so very typical to have you know a bottle of red wine a glass of Cara or a Kio um which is sort of a shot of black coffee with something strong in it that could be a niece it could be Brandy we have to all right so we’re going to do it okay our first dish has arrived you said the scary stuff I mean I love the scary stuff but sometimes people get a little scared about things like trip places like this the places known for the Asos the Foria the fork breakfast tend to do it really really well so if you are going to try it anywhere try it somewhere like here the full the full bite the full Fork full the full Fork breakfast full oh yeah it took me 10 years of living in this country to fall in love with Kos try but oh my god when it’s good it is so good so if I come at 7:00 a.m. o to have a glass of carava Cara is appropriate at any time of day in Catalonia it’s crisp it’s refreshing it’s not going to hit you like a juggernaut when you start eating for me at least Cara is much more digestible than tucking into a bottle of red than a full bottle of red yeah cheers sal sal salute Fran keeps the fork breakfast coming with a plate of stewed Pig Trotters with wild mushrooms and blood sausage is the most succulent silky tender meat you’ll ever have blood sausage wild mushroom Pig strutters oh yeah for all you kind of fair weather bouraine fans are are out there who are like oh I’m such a adventurous eater but then you’re you’re not going to do this come on guys this is the real deal you got to come you got to get these dishes at this place get some wine with it [Music] for for so with our bellies full of trots and sparkling wine it’s time to well go get a drink and this time not at a restaurant or bar just briefly if you’re heading to Spain you’re going to want to eat great daas and to do that you should download my free Tapas 101 guide full of tips on how to do Tapas like a local click the link the description to download it it’s totally free okay back to the video okay Tara I’m feeling a little bit tipsy and this says wine on it so wh have you brought me so I brought you to laa the S Antony it’s my local wine shop and the reason I brought you here is because everyone goes to bars and restaurants to have a glass wine but in Catalonia you can also often have a taste and maybe even a snack at a B wow this place to is beautiful I mean I mean I would love to have this in my neighborhood I’d love to have this in my seller yeah yeah yeah back in the day a Boda or wine shop was the place you went to fill up your wine bottles from the barrel and while you were waiting sip on a glass of the good stuff and that tradition is still alive and well in catalunia with many wine shops having a tasting space where you can order glasses of local wines and nibbles so when in Rome so you’ve got this huge array of ver Ms including antique so it’s a a b that makes verou and it’s literally made around the corner everyone drinks the red but in fact um the white is really really delicate it has a hint of bitterness and it’s really really refreshing I’ve drunk a lot of Routh over my 12 years in Spain but most of it has been red remou and so I’m excited to try this white variety M yeah it’s kind of a little more floral and a red delicate it is so good red remou guys that was last year you’re on to the whites now J pours the next wine that Tara’s chosen a crisp yummy white that’s literally made within the Barcelona City Limits yeah it’s really acidic it’s beautiful but what’s very interesting about this wine is it’s a social inclusion project okay which means that the people that plant and grow and harvest The Grapes yeah and label the wines are people with disabilities okay okay one more wine a red as a father of a rambunctious 2-year-old I’m really out of practice when it comes to day drinking what’s really special about this Winery is they were among the early ones to start using biodynamic principles which is working to the cycles of the Moon organic principles but it’s actually basically a woman Run Winery and I think it says something when the owner of a wine shop tells you that in their opinion this is the best wine in Spain wow a really deep garet red it’s really soft and Luscious on the nose it’s like being given a hug and it’s soft and Rich round in the mouth and that’s really like being given a very very good kiss the wine is another knockout recommendation from Tara but before we leave as a bonus tip at many Barcelona Wine shops you can still fill up your wine from the proverbial Barrel bring any container and you’ll get a liter of wine for only a few EUR bye-bye to one of the best wine stores in the world for the grand finale Tara takes me around the corner to the restaurant malat and this is not yet one of Barcelona’s famous restaurants and that’s exactly the reason she’s brought me here I mean I think a lot of people you know these days a lot of people travel to eat and actually a lot of their dining experiences will inform their their trip anyway I think what can be very very frustrating is when you call these really very big very famous restaurants dutar is now you know world’s best um that you can’t get a reservation it’s booked up for 6 months time and you maybe haven’t planned your holiday that far in advance and I think a really great alternative is to explore who the up and cominging chefs are in the smaller neighborhoods it’s Chef owned and run restaurants so you can eat extraordinarily well in these small restaurants that are an ele elevated dining for a fraction of the cost this is a dish where it looks beautiful when you put it in your mouth it just tastes exquisite no wow this is beautiful sometimes those big reservations are a little bit stressful and there’s a lot of pressure on you to enjoy them I booked this on Friday 3 days ago you’ve got to remember about destination dining I think is that you’re you’re making the reservation and then you’re booking the flight this is the other way around we had the pig’s Trotters in the first place and we have the pigs Trotter as the base here yeah and everything comes from the market which is just out there I think what ties all of this together and what were the Silver Thread through the entire thing is that everyone is shopping in St Anthony market so our markets hold us together they’re the glue that keeps society and Community together and that’s still going strong and long may it be so okay guys so we’ve eaten in some incredible places today but there is so much more to eat and discover in Barcelona so if you want to have great daas and more in the city click this video that’s appearing here or I take you to 10 of my favorite joints my favorite places uh so you can eat wonderful food the entire trip in Barcelona all right we’ll see you over there in a moment

Best Barcelona tip: don't visit! We're already full and the mere presence of masses of tourists is ruining the city. I know is no one's fault (well, tourism promoter's) but it is what it is.
which bodega was this one? Thank you. I want to try the Indigena and maybe buy it to bring it on our cruise. Is it super dry? Does it have any trace of sweetness in it? Thanks again.
Alguien puede avisar a estos turistas que por favor no cuelgen sus toallas sabanas o ropa en los balcones o ventanas en pleno centro de las ciudades???
Actually "merci" in catalan is a natural evolution of the language, from "mercès", which used to be the way to thank people back in the day, rather than an inherited french word
The only thing that you use to eat is…meat !! Poor animals !
Fun fact: the name of the last restauran (maleducat) means bad mannered
We did a tasting at Parés Baltà winery last year, it was one of the best I've ever been to. Great wines.
the day I see the sagrada familia finished, I will know I'm a ghost. sometimes I believe they are just extending the timeline because part of the interest is that it hasn't been finished yet.
while we would love if you learned our language, it's not a must. we all speak in spanish when needed. some people will default to catala but, if you reply in spanish they will swap to spanish unless they are being rude and extremists about independence. just ignore this people. it's not worth your time.
How can use those family tickets in the metro? One person goes through and passes back the ticket for next? Is this going to be one ride out of eight?
Don't plan to walk through Barcelona. It's huge. You will not have the time to visit things. Use the Metro
Just came back from Barcelona and do not want to go back for more. Be aware that what you see, from vlogers, may not match the reality. Barcelona is crowded, loud, busy, dirty city. Lines are very long for all attractions. Stay away from most attractions and you will find areas that are much nicer, pleasant with green parks. The food quality in all tourist areas are low prices are high. The prices and quality outside of the main fares are much better. Local are nice and very friendly. The Gothic area is simply a touristy trap, with mob of tourists, and NO memorable or worth while sights to see. The spanish food packs a lot of fat, carbs and cals. No salads or fruits to be found on most of the menus. Not a place I would ever want to come back.
as a person that lives in bcn… dont forget the most important one. Lots of ppl will try to steal ur phone/wallet. We have an immigration problem here. Stay safe.
One important thing is not to assume all the "friendly and pretty local women" hanging around the train stations looking to make some money are actually females. I learned the hard way.
I'm from Barcelona and the metro is cheap and a good way to move around but be really careful with the "carteristas" people trying to steal your phone and wallet as soon as you get distracted.. and they mostly go behind tourists
First thing you should not do is come to Barcelona. F**** tourists…
Dont you dare to ever call cava "sparkling wine" in front of a Catalonian.
Trigger warning:
Barcelona taxi driver saved me from an assault. Creepy guy jumped me and I fought him off and I ran. Pounded on a taxi car bonnet. Driver took me home and didn’t charge me anything.
Ninguna persona mejor de 70 años ha desayunado eso en su vida 😂
''Merci'' wasn't took from the french, it comes from the old expresion to say thank you ''Moltes mercès''. It's still used in some VERY formal e-mails. But on common speech you'll always hear the shortened version ''Merci''.
I wasn't impressed with Barcelona. Valencia is much much better. Barcelona is to cramped and architect planing of the city sucks. It's just too large. Didn't have any problems with pickpockets. The cheapest suvenir you can buy on the left from La Sagrada familia (C/ de Sardenya street). Food is phenomenal and very tasty.
what kind of snob drinks cava with their breakfast, like seriously…
If you really want a true culinary experience, ask us ( the locals ) , either in english, spanish or catalan. We will be glad to give you some pointers to the nearest munchies: we are generally quite sociable and friendly . Don't ask the beggars and vagabonds unless you invite them to eat aswell, that would be quite rude
this video is in itself a tourist trap, guys. Greetings from Barcelona
it really says something when you are rating wine beacause reasons? insteaf of it is good or not
I mean tripe is horrific; it’s a dead animal. It’s not cute and colloquial and edgy, it’s fkd up and evil. There’s so much good food without senseless killing
Dude is Anthony Robbins' son, and he speaks with his hands way too much.
I'm confused did I miss something? Why shouldn't you not be underneath the Gothic arch? I've been there myself more than once and it's a beautiful spot but perhaps someone can tell me what I missed is it dangerous? Or is this just more Clickbait?
First dont go there. Barcelona and Istanbul two places I never go back to.
“From the River to the Sea, (Mediterranean), Catalonia will be Free.”
Mama Mia, your Barcelona "insider" travel tips are awesome! I Love how you showcased the local spots, markets, wine shops and restaurants in the local neighborhoods that the local Catalans go to with the help of local guides Patrick and Tara. My best friend is visiting Barcelona in August 2024 and I've already shared your vlog with him with the hopes that he will follow ALL of your suggestions. This Barcelona vlog is One of The Best Youtube travel vlogs I've seen so far so Muchas Gracias!
