Today Diana is sharing her amazing homemade Calzone and Marinara Recipes! Enjoy!

1/3 of Cooking Cronies Pizza Dough recipe –
1 1/2 c. Ricotta cheese
1 1/2 c. Combination of cheddar and Italian blend shredded cheese
1/2 c. Pepperoni, diced
1 c. Italian sausage, cooked and drained
1/2 c. Mushrooms (optional)
1 T. Italian seasoning
1 egg beaten
Divide dough into equal parts.
To make the filling, combine all ingredients except the egg. Mix well.
Roll out 1 piece of dough to a thin circle. Fill each circle with the cheese and meat filling and fold over, securing edges by folding in and pressing with a fork.
Brush the top of each calzone wit egg and place on a lightly greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 375 degrees for 20-30 minutes or until golden brown.
Serve hot with our Marinara sauce.

Marinara Sauce
1 T. Olive oil
4 cloves of garlic, minced
1 small onion, diced
1/2 c. Red wine
3 15 oz. Cans crushed tomatoes
1/4 t. Crushed peppers
1/4 t. Sugar
Salt and pepper
1/2T. Italian seasoning
Fresh basil

Add olive oil to a skillet and heat. Add onion and cook until translucent.
Add garlic and cook for only a minute stirring so they don’t burn.
Add the wine, whisk to deglaze the pan.
Add the crushed tomatoes and the rest of the ingredients except the fresh bail.
Simmer for 30 minutes.
Before serving cut Basil into thin strips.
Place cooked calzone on a plate and top with marinara sauce, garnish with basil.
Enjoy!
