About Vero:
Did you know that less than 1% of wines make it to US retailers’ shelves? At Vero, which means “real” in Italian, we are constantly looking for small production, sustainably made, authentic wines from farmer-artisans not yet present in the US market. Our mission is to create a community of wine and food lovers, small producers and businesses where passion is the common denominator.

brunella de monino is one of the most important and iconic wines of Tuscany and Italy in general however it’s not easy these days to find a wine maker in Montalcino that still makes Brunello as it once was made in the past with passion and respecting the long-standing tradition of the area but one such wine maker that we have found is Alberto pantini and this video is all about him and his Winery called canalino hi there I’m Jacqueline foro and if you’ve been following our channel for a while you’ll know that by now we love to find small wineries run by wine makers that are moved by Passion and a mission to respect their land and the wine making tradition of the area that they have been living in for generations and when we were searching for a wine maker that would fit these requirements in Tuscany and specifically in montal Chino we knew that we had found the perfect match when we visited the canalino estate and met Alberto pantini for the first time his beautiful estate lies just outside the pora belli gate in the Historical Center of montal Chino and it has been in Alberto’s family for Generations his family the Sodis of montal Chino are reported to have been managing a Vineyard on this land going back to the 1800s in 1898 jpe sodi moved his family to the land calling it P canalino and since then they have been working the land as sharecroppers back then the local Nobles owned the land and allowed the sodi family to live and work on it they were permitted to keep a portion of what they produced and the rest went to the Nobles at the time they grew a little bit of grapes and made some wine but it was only a modest production that was used for family consumption we will need to wait a century or so before grapes become the main crop of the estate and wine making becomes the main source of sustenance in 1999 following the rising popularity of vello wine Alberto’s father began to start to get serious about wine making and planted 11 plots of grapes covering the majority of the property with wies finally he was able to release the first canalino wine on the market in 2004 after studying engineering at University Alberto returned to help his father on the farm and when his father passed away a couple of years later Alberto fully took over the winery he now continues to operate the winery on his own during critical periods of the year including Harvest or bottling family and friends will come to assist Alberto but in the end it’s a solo Pursuit during the rest of the year it’s a testament to his dedication and passion for his wines as it is anything but easy work tending to the four hectares of land the wine production the bottling the labeling the sales the marketing and the accounting and in the end it’s a one-man Show and Alberto certainly wears a lot of hats and so this leads us to the wines of canalino and Alberto’s wine- making philosophy he strongly believes in minimal intervention in the Sellar and most importantly in The Vineyards where he wants to keep alive the traditions of this property that historically was used to grow fruits and veget vegetables alongside the vines he also has kept other plants because this provides two main benefits first they contribute to the wines Aromas and flavor profile and the longevity of the soil and it also helps to provide a home for good bugs which helps to ward off destructive insects that could cause damage to the vines it’s biodiversity to the maximum and these resulting wines are a wonderful pure expression of the sanovas grape and The Monto Chino land Alberto makes around 10,000 bottles of red wine per year using only his sanio grapes as this is the only grape that he cultivates the Harvest is divided between his Roso D Toscana or a Tuscan red wine a Roso de monino and a Brunello de monino this latter wine is made by selecting only the best ripest and healthiest Sano bunches during Harvest and all of his wines are aged in wooden barrels where they spend from several months in the case of Roso toana to at least a year for the Roso Manalo and even more than 2 years for the mighty Brunello this is the wine that offers the most complexity intensity and Persistence of the lot and lastly a few words about another important feature of the canalino estate there you can find a spring of clear fresh water it remains at a near constant temperature year round of 53° fah and in the winter when it’s cold the spring helps to warm the environment and in the summer when it’s hot it does the opposite and provides a cooling effect also it provides water that that’s used in The Vineyards and around the farm this spraying is so important to the estate that it’s where the name is taken from in fact canalino in English can be translated to as little Canal so that was canelo’s Winery if you’re intrigued you can buy canalino wines in our online shop at vero.com to taste for yourself or you can subscribe to our Channel because there might be a video looking more in depth of canalino wines in the future and while you wait for that you can watch this video right here about the grap variety responsible for Brunello deont Chino San thank you for watching and I’ll see you in the next video bye
