Having lived in our Mediterranean-style home in Austin for over a decade, I’ve shared much of our design process through the years. And yet, I’ve never shared a complete tour of the entire house, with the room-by-room details all in one place. So, along with the launch of my Sourcebook (below!) that includes links to everything in our house, I couldn’t be more excited to share the official Camille Styles Home Tour.

hey there Welcome to our Mediterranean style home
here in Austin Texas come on
in and let me show you [Music]
around Welcome to our living room we wanted
our home to feel like this welcoming Haven
from the moment the guests walk in the house
I want people to feel like they can just get
cozy and kick off their shoes and stay a while
before we kick off the entire home tour let’s
do a little background on the house so my husband
Adam actually discovered this property while we
were dating so that was like 16 years ago there
was an old 1950s house on the lot that was in
pretty bad shape and the lot itself was totally
overgrown the place where our backyard is now was
actually completely wooded and you couldn’t even
see any of the downtown or lake views at all but
we knew this property had so much potential so
we spent the first year of our marriage working
with our architect and then we ended up building
our house from the ground up at the time I had
never done a design project at this scale before
and honestly I had no clue what I was doing so I
feel lucky that we ended up with a final result
that I still love so much now that we’ve been
in the house for 13 years there are definitely
some things that I’d love to change and update
but we kind of look at our house as this ongoing
project it’s never fully done and every year we
try to tackle one or two things it’s kind of like
the house just keeps evolving right along with us
this room is all about the natural light my
favorite thing about the space is definitely
these big steel doors that open up to the outside
and just create this beautiful indoor outdoor flow
my mood is very influenced by the sunshine and
the weather so I love to be able to be in the
space and just let the sunshine in it’s very good
for my mental health I often get asked what style
our house is and honestly I can’t point to just
one particular design style but I do often use
the words warm minimalism when I’m describing
our home I’m always looking for this element
of Simplicity and I want every space to feel
really warm and comfortable we do have a lot
of Mediterranean influence in our design Adam
and I went to Italy on our honeymoon so while
we were designing our house we were really
inspired by the architecture and the outdoor
spaces where we spent time in cpri we came home
from our honeymoon and began our design process
and we really wanted to incorporate materials
like terracotta and plaster walls as well as
so many of the plants that we chose for our
Landscaping like olive trees and Jasmine one
of the main questions that I get about our house
is what we used on the walls and a few years back
I decided that I wanted to plaster our home I
am obsessed with plaster and lime wash walls I
just love that like character and patina that
they give a space But I wanted something that
would be very matte and textural so I found
this material called American clay it’s an
Earth plaster that’s made in New Mexico it’s
non-toxic it’s eco-friendly and it gives that
like very matte and textural feel it definitely
was one of the best decisions that we made about
the house it’s not a small project it took a crew
a couple weeks to come in and plaster the whole
house top to bottom but I definitely think it
was worth it this painting above our fireplace
is probably my favorite piece of art in the house
it was painted by my husband’s brother Neil before
he passed away and it is a treasure to us it
hung above our bed for many years but recently
we swapped it into the living room and I love how
it adds texture and interest above the fireplace
while still staying in this neutral soothing
color palette that goes with the rest of the
room moving on to the heart of our home the
kitchen is where so many of the things that
I love to do happens from developing all
the recipes for our site to Preparing our
meals together as a family and whenever we have
dinner parties everyone Gathers was around this
big kitchen island and we set out all the wine
and snacks and it’s just such a fun like place
for everyone to congregate together I’ll be
honest this kitchen has some design challenges
mainly the lack of natural light I have explored
every possible way to add a skylight or a window
in here but the way the house is configured
there’s just not a way to do it I have to
get creative with colors and styling to lighten
up this space as much as possible when we built
the house we added a stainless steel vent hood
that I really fell out of love with as my style
evolved a few years ago we did a mini kitchen
update and replaced it with a custom plaster
Hood surround and it made the biggest difference
the hood has a hidden ventilation system that’s
mounted to the inside of the surround and then we
plastered over it in our American clay plaster we
also replaced our old countertops with this
bright white Caesar Stone and the cloud burst
concrete finish I love love love Caesar Stone
and I have used it in multiple design projects
for this we added a waterfall Edge to the
countertop and made a continuous sink all
out of the same Caesar Stone to just make it feel
really seamless and clean our kitchen cabinets and
shelves are the same stained White Oak that
we’ve had since we moved into the house and
I’ll be honest this is definitely something that
I would love to change about our kitchen I think
that adding unstained lighter Oak Cabinetry
would really just lighten up the whole space
but we’ve gotten a bid for what it would cost to
replace all of the cabinets or even just refinish
them and it’s so expensive so it’s going to
have to wait until I have a new kitchen Rena
budget the bedroom really is My Sanctuary our
lives are so full from work to kids activities and
this room is really where the hustle stops and we
can just relax and really get recharged I try to
make it as spa-like and Zen as possible this cozy
reading corner is one of my favorite spots in the
whole house I love to drink my coffee here in the
morning and in the evening I’ll often curl up here
with a book or with my tea and just kind of like
wind down for the evening I searched for years for
a lowprofile wood bed with built-in nightstands
but I could never find one that was exactly what
I was looking for we decided to design the exact
bed of our dreams and then have it built by some
local Carpenters it actually didn’t end up being
more expensive than many of the beds that I’d been
looking online here was my inspiration and the
shop drawing that my designer friend Claire made
for our Carpenters we used an unstained White
Oak for a matte neutral finish and then had two
sconces hardwired into each side of the bed the
switches are actually located into the side of the
nightstand so they’d be invisible when you’re
looking at the bed then I have an electrical
outlet inside each drawer so I can charge my phone
in the drawer every night while I sleep it’s so
convenient the art above the bed is actually a
photo took on my iPhone when we were in [Music]
Italy I like to make a few minutes of every day
feel like my spa time and my bathroom really is
the place where all my self-care happens I take
a bath in here almost every single night it is my
favorite way to recharge and I love that we have
this big picture window with the shade that I can
raise to let tons of natural light in the space
although I do close it when it’s time for my bath
this media room has been so many different things
through the years when we first moved in we made
it our home gym which I’m going to try to find
an old photo of it so embarrassing we literally
had these shelves full of like bottled waters
and hand towels just like a hotel and then we
had an elliptical it was a Vibe and then when our
kids were born we turned it into their playroom
which was great to have like a dedicated area for
that and now that our kids are older we use it as
our like family hangout space we play video games
and watch movies together as a family so it’s ever
evolving but it’s super casual and just super
cozy this room is so simple and everything in
it was super affordable we did a CB2 couch
and then our rugs are from Target honestly
when it comes to kids spaces I like to stick with
just a really simple color palette and vibe that
goes with the rest of the house but I don’t want
anything that’s precious because let’s be honest
it’s going to get destroyed from the video game
playing the sleepovers and the snacking that will
happen in this [Music] room Welcome to our team
Studio space as you guys know we shoot a ton of
recipe content and we really needed a space with
more natural light than our kitchen for shooting
recipes and products for kasuma so we had the
idea to transform our guest bed bedroom into a
studio kitchen we shared the entire before and
after process on the site so definitely check
that out we’ll Link in the description because we
did it on a major budget and I think it came out
pretty good for the countertop in here we used
sets of drawers and a laminate countertop that I
actually found at Ikea then I found a marble
shelf on clearance and I ordered some steel
brackets from Etsy to mount them this was a little
challenging and I’ll be honest the end result is
not perfect but for our purposes it gets the job
done and it was a lot cheaper than the alternative
the rest of the Space is really just all about
styling a woven light fixture and movable Butcher
Block Island that I found from makers on Etsy and
then of course lots of Casa Zuma pieces displayed
on the open shelves that just make it a perfect
studio and creative space for our team to work
in this is our family office although usually
Adam is the one who ends up working in here I
tend to work in the little Al off the kitchen but
this tends to become The Dumping Ground honestly
for a lot of our kasuma samples and prototypes so
with the decor I try to keep it pretty minimal and
simple for me a clear space equals a clear mind
so when it comes to my workspace I like things
to feel clean I literally cannot think straight
if there’s plotter okay let’s head upstairs and
I’ll show you the kids’ [Music] rooms this Loft
area has been several different things through
the years it’s started as a TV room when we first
moved in and then when we had kids it became their
playroom and now it’s what I call my meditation
space essentially it’s just this really cozy
kind of like cocoon area where I can do my video
workouts or people can just come and kind of chill
it’s a very like simple low stimuli environment
I don’t think I’ve shown any photos of our kids’
room since they were nurseries so I am definitely
of the mindset that kids should be able to freely
Express themselves in their bedroom so I really
don’t get too involved in the decor and kind of
just let them decorate their rooms with whatever
expresses their personality so Henry is my neat
freak kid he’s very organized by nature and his
room is actually pretty minimalist doesn’t have
a lot of clutter but he definitely likes his
collections of his Legos his Star Wars stuff
and then he loves books he and I are reading the
wild Ro bot right now and we love to just like
have our bedtime reading time together it’s kind
of our favorite way to wind down at the end of the
night Phoebe is not quite as minimalist as her
brother the girl loves her collections stuffed
animals beauty products she’s got a lot of stuff
in here one thing I love about the kids’ rooms are
these big open Windows it just kind of makes them
feel like they’re tucked away in a treehouse and
lets in tons of natural light all right let’s
take it outside our backyard is actually my
favorite part of the entire house it’s taken us
12 years to get it to this point we have worked
on this space so much over the last several years
and now we spend tons of time out here every day
our backyard is divided into two areas we have
this upper area that’s kind of our outdoor lounge
area and then we have the lower level which is
our larger Gardens up here we hang out all the
time it connects directly to our living room
so I like to think of it as just this kind of
extension of the rest of the house true outdoor
living space we sit around the coffee table all
the time and have dinner as a family and often
times when we are entertaining all of our friends
come out here and hang out and then on this level
we also have our pool which we use all the time
my favorite thing about our pool is actually the
color it’s this like deep blue that really reminds
me of the Mediterranean our pool area is on the
same level as our house so this was the first
phase of our back yard project it’s pretty crazy
when we bought this house we could barely see any
downtown Skyline at all just a couple buildings
but Austin has exploded so much that we now have
this full-blown downtown Skyline View it’s so
beautiful especially at night since our home sits
up on a high Hillside our foundation is built on a
30ft retaining wall we went with an infinity edge
pool to really maximize the feeling of being like
built into the cliff and I love that when we’re
in the pool it feels almost like you’re suspended
in this tree house let’s head down to the lower
backyard which is by far the biggest design
project we’ve ever [Music] tackled this space
has been transformed from a dirt covered Hillside
into a space that’s been featured all over the
Internet including an architectural digest and
it has taken years of work to do it Adam and
I typically try to tackle one big project down
here every single year and over time we just keep
refining it into the space that we truly love one
thing we’ve learned is we’ve continued developing
this area of the property is the importance of
creating a master plan that really defines the
purpose and the use for every different area it’s
a big space so it’s really helpful to carve out
different areas for our backyard we carved out
spaces for dining for a fir pit a lounge area
and a vegetable garden that way as we’ve tackled
each area in different phes over the years we know
that end Vision where we’re ultimately headed
then we can use different materials like wood
decking or gravel or hedge borders to carve out
each of those spaces into these sort of outdoor
rooms we use a ton of gravel back here which
we love because it’s super low maintenance and
it’s used in a lot of Mediterranean spaces we’ve
really changed the plant life here over the years
as we’ve learned the hard way what thrives
and what doesn’t tend to grow well in Austin
since it tends to get really really hot here in
the summer and it usually freezes a couple times
in the winter it’s really important to choose
super hearty plants that can stand up to both
of those conditions so we use a lot of boxwoods
Hawthorns and Cherry Laurels and then we do have
some olive trees and lemon trees but we have to
be so careful to cover them before a freeze so
that they’ll actually survive the cold my raised
garden beds are a newer addition to the backyard
and I’ve been having so much fun learning more
about grow gr vegetables and herbs it’s definitely
a process and I’ve had a few fails but I’m getting
better this spring I’m growing multiple types of
tomatoes summer squash melons and of course
lots of herbs and that’s the grand tour this
house has really been such an incredible home for
us through the years it has evolved so much and I
feel like every different room really tells the
story of our family it is our endless canvas for
creativity and inspiration drop any questions you
might have in the comments I will do my best to
answer them and I will also link my Source book
that has links to as many different things in our
home as I could find thanks so much for joining
us on this home tour and I will see you next time

Love this home, and the kitchen is my favorite part
Unapologetically open question::: How Do you (both) get the money for all this?!?
I'm astounded at the millions it must take to get 'here'. Do you owe a few bankers? Or are you bankers? Oil people?
Yes it's gorgeous, yes you are fortunate, yes we all envy you, yes you make it look so easy…
I just could cry at the suffering of so many I know, and to see you describe everything with such ease and appreciation is just,,, beyond.
-I am also Camille.

Could you give us the architect info? Whom you worked with for building this home?

Is a beautiful home so cozy 😊
What is not for me is the Kardashian tone, not for me. Rather than that is beautiful !!!!
Warm minimalism, yes, but definitely also Modern Organic. All I can say is everything about this space is perfectly curated and tasteful. Great job.

I’m from the Mediterranean, this house is not such. It’s a nice house, with earthy elements.
