CIAO AMICI and all our lovely subscribers!
Welcome to “Tales from Tuscany”!
A huge CIAO to all our new subscribers and welcome back to our beautiful “faithful” followers!
We appreciate you all so much!
I am personally so excited about this week’s video, as it truly was one of the prettiest places we have visited together so far!
However, it’s not just the physical beauty of Montalcino that impressed us but the wine….Oh wow!!!
I had been waiting impatiently to try my first glass of Brunello for many months and I was not disappointed! Both of us were in 7th heaven!
Also, another thing we discovered was that Montalcino is also famous for its Sartoria (Seamstress/Tailor) and Linens. Something that appealed immensely to “interior designer” part of my personality! As you will see, we came back to Chianni with some lovely purchases for our little home “Vivasogni”.
We highly recommend a trip to Montalcino, whether you’re a wine lover or not…it’s a fabulous destination in an outstanding part of Tuscany!
Also, if you have time, discover the Val D’Orcia and the iconic Cypress drives…so pretty!
ENJOY!!!!
Finally, are so grateful to all our viewers and love hearing from you, so if you’re enjoying our little channel, please remember to SUBSCRIBE, LIKE & COMMENT. We just LOVE reading your lovely comments and answering your questions.
All our best wishes

Ciao Marisa and David! What an absolutely beautiful town! I love the architecture and history plus the views and countryside with those beautiful cypress trees is magnificent. Bellissimo 🌲♥️🇮🇹🥰
So nice!! We visited a few places in Tuscany, also Montalcino (also fortress and a walk on the walls), during our honeymoon this summer. Really enjoy your videos, they bring up precious memories 🙂
Fab vid. Will have to visit there some day… that sunrise/set sequence is an award-winner 🙂 Can't wait 'til next week. It will be Niamh's big break! 😀
Another lovely video, Marisa and David! It's so wonderful and inspiring to see you living your best lives there! And your editting skills grow every week. So enjoyable! xooxox
Such a beautiful town Montalcino is and the old stone streets and buildings. The view from your room terrace just wow. The wine and cheese looked amazing. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to you and David 🎄🎄
Thank you for a wonderful video. What a beautiful place! Stunning views also from the hotel. When was this video taken, seems to be full summer? 😊
What a fun adventure!
Was this actually filmed this month? I can't believe so many flowers are still blooming and people can wear shorts! How wonderful. It's far too cold for that here in the midwest US. I think it would be lovely to spend Christmastime in Italy. Someday…
The book Vanilla Beans and Brodo is about Montalcino. Loved it a few years back now.
What a beautiful weekend getaway 😍😍
Bravo! Look forward to one day visiting beautiful Montalcino. 👏👏👏👏❤
Thank you Marisa and David, such gift you have offered me with those images! You should know my whole family comes from several different area's of Siena's province and my father, my grandfather and my aunt, which happened to be my second mother and raised me for part of my childwood, are from Montalcino. I spent there six years of my childwood in a little village between Montalcino and San Quirico d'Orcia called Torrenieri and I went to middle school in Montalcino. Me and my my father moved to Prato in the late 70s but I still visited until my aunt's passed away in 2012 and we sold the house. But my roots and my heart are there I'm like one of those people who are born on the seaside and once they leave they still miss it, so am I, those hills are my sea, and there is the only place where I am able to sleep like a baby…. if you happen to be like me crazy for ancient churches and monasteries please allow me to leave 2 suggestions for your next visit there which requires only little detour:
1-Abbazzia di Monte Oliveto Maggiore a beautiful benedectine monastery built between XIV and XVI centuries in romanesque-gothic style surrounded by cypress and woods on top of the "crete senesi" area with dramatic views, accessible through a drawbridge and rich of cloisters, plenty of frescos, a rich library, officinal garden and pharmacy. There used to be a traditional trattoria for those who planned to stay the day. On the way from Siena to Montalcino, when you reach "Buonconvento", just at the very first buildings, on the left there are directions to Monte Oliveto Maggiore, it's only approx 10mins drive.
2-Abbazia di Sant'Antimo, a gorgeous romanic church located downhill from Montalcino in the middle of a field, it's now "revived" thanks to a small goup of monks who reinstated themselves to live there a few years ago and have also replanted and tend to the officinal garden. The church is made by carved stone and alabaster and for me the best time to visit is the middle of the day when the sun is high because the sunlight shines through the alabaster walls reflecting on the inside. When in Montalcino at the Fortezza follow directions to "Castelnuovo dell'Abate" (I'm not sure if there is marked also Sant'Antimo, maybe), it's just 5 minutes drive.
