Sometimes one needs a break from buffets! And aside from the buffets, Vegas is known for it’s amazing steakhouses! From places offering prime rib for $9.99 to steakhouses offering A5 Wagyu where the sky’s the limit for the cost of the meal.

Wanting to try Vegas’ oldest classic steakhouse, The Golden Steer, I was all set and made my reservations months in advance. But as luck would have it, after ordering a fantastic meal, having it arrive, and just as I was to take the first bite of the appetizers, the power went out… And unfortunately, without power, the restaurant had to close down for the night.

Now, with the appetite primed for amazing steaks, I thought it would be fun to try a variety of steaks in Vegas, from places offering steak dinners focusing on great value to those focusing on luxury and extravagance.

For the steak dinner offering great value, we have the standby favourite, the Village Pub over at Ellis Island offer their full prime rib dinner for $28 with a double cut prime rib, potatoes, soup or salad, and additional sides. An amazing deal as one would expect because they also have the best deal in town (or at least the best deal near the Vegas Strip) for Fish and Chips.

For the luxurious extravagant steak dinner, we have Peter Luger’s over at the Caesars offering their famous porterhouse sizzling hot on their iconic searing hot plate drenched in the luscious beef fat at $160. But that’s not all as one cannot dine on steak alone… through in some potatoes, some sides, and of course, the onions and tomatoes, and you’re looking at a bill around $400.

Which is the winner? Which tastes better? I intend to find out!

Finished a half marathon here in the Vegas trip where you get to run the strip up and down at night and uh catch the lights without any traffic so that was pretty impressive and a little bit tiring as well and uh a little bit disappointed here because I just came

Back from the Golden Steer and uh looks amazing but unfortunately I didn’t have anything there and uh it was one of those things and it’s kind of tied back to the half marathon the The Rock and Roll Marathon and I got a chance to meet some fellow vancouverites who was dining

Right there and they told me to listen to everything our server Dave was mentioning and uh we ordered up a storm from a wonderful oldfashioned to start to some appies and the lobster and the steak but unfortunately something happened as soon as the appetizer came and it looked delicious huge shrimp lots

Of butter and a nice Christini at the bottom and as soon as I took the first fight the power went out and apparently it was those Folks At The Rock and Roll Marathon that were cleaning up that cut the power line so unfortunately they’re booked four months out in advance so uh

I don’t think I can go back so I still have a hankering for some stakes and uh I think we’re going to do a bit of exploring here and this might be a little bit of a different video here so I figure I’m going to try kind of the

Most uh affordable and great value stfe places here in Vegas and contrast that with the most luxurious uh EXA extravagant safe place I can find and I think uh Matt from the back in Al was uh mentioning that Peter lugers is in town so I can’t wait to

Give it a try but for the affordable comforting uh good value Stak Place uh I remember when I was here I got a chance to uh visit Ellis Island and I can’t wait to go back I think that’s going to be the uh value Comfort Stak place and

Uh we’ll see if we can get a spot at Peter Luger’s as well so I’m going to rely on the wisdom of the crowds looking at the comments from Yelp from Google uh from uh Trip Advisor and uh we’ll see what people like about it what they

Don’t like about it and uh we’ll verify ourselves and we’ll verify for ourselves uh so I think uh without further Ado uh hey there how are you so without further Ado uh I am a little bit hungry now because uh I’m really craving for that steak so I hope you’re hungry too uh

Come on let’s go visit our first spot uh and that’s Ellis Island The Village Pub uh come on let’s Go and I recall Ellis Island is only about a 10-minute walk from the strip and it’s right over there so what should have been a 10-minute walk turned out to be 20 minutes uh especially after hobbling from the half marathon and we have arrived and I got a chance to check out

Some of the comments the good comments and the bad comments and here’s what they say so from the good five stars service is great she was courteous and efficient reason I came here for the double cut prime rib totally agree prime rib looks nice and succulent this is my

Go-to spot for prime rib and it should be yours as well and now for some of the not so good reviews watch five YouTube videos about this Cafe however I am very disappointed we ordered the most popular French onion soup and fish and chips onion soup was extremely salty to the

Point of kidney failure both fish and chips were chewy instead of crispy and I feel kind of responsible because I got a chance to visit here a while ago and share the experience and uh I thought it was very good and the best deal better

Than Gordon Ramsay so uh I hope uh I’m going to give this a try again and uh come on let’s go inside great to get a table here and uh I think some of the other comments was that it gets too busy they weren’t intentive but uh I didn’t get a chance

To show you but Christa was fantastic and this is the menu here and what they are known for is on the other side so uh little bit of negative comments on the fishing chips but I think I’m going to give it a try to see for myself and of

Course they’re known for their steaks it’s $9.99 for steak and eggs but that’s at a I think it’s at 11 till the morning but uh you can still get that it’s just a little bit pricier but I think what people I’m here for is the prime rib so

Definitely going to go for that for sure but I’m not going to go for the double cut cuz last time I was here I ordered that it was substantial so I think the regular King cut and the fish and chips and we’ll take you back so I just

Ordered the fish and chips and the King cut prime rib with the uh the meal included so you get a potato mashed potatoes and gravy or baked potato and uh I got to go for the beer oh I also got the French onion soup but I see the

Beer coming thank you so much and after all that running I think I deserve a beer cheers and I’ll take you back when the food comes first up this is the French onion soup and it is sizable nice baked cheese overfilling I remember the comments were saying this was overly salty let’s give

This a try nice and stringy and very hot however the soup is nice and flavorful and for me it’s actually pretty well seasoned not too salty at all and very hot so for me I think this is okay I can finish this off and uh could could have been

Just a a bad day or the soup was overly reduced but this is quite nice and I do need to revise my comment there because from the comment saying it was too salty once you get through the cheese and the bread it has a lot of broth and actually as I was

Getting through it it was a bit salty and uh the beer certainly help and especially after the run I do need to replenish the salt so the comment being too salty I think that’s accurate unfortunately but I see something coming oh thank you and when we see salad I

Think this is the beginning of the king cut prime rib meal I think we have to get through this first let’s give it a try and I am not expecting this to be fancy like the Golden Steer this is about $20 or 20 $26 with a full meal so a nice standard

Salad nothing fancy at as expected and cold especially after the French onion soup so I think the way it progresses is I have to finish the salad before the king cut prime rib and the uh fion chip comes so I’ll take you back when this is done and the prime rib comes

Wow oh thank you so much and lo and beh our food has come and I’m a bit of an idiot because I remember last time I did the exact same thing I got the two together when ordering and forgot to mention to have one come out after you

After the other cuz there is a chance or a big chance that it will get cold but I think between the two I got to try the fish and chips first and this is heavy oh my goodness a little bit of a shake there and uh I got to try this first but

There’s there’s no way I can finish all this so I’m going to try a little bit of the fish and chips and my server who’s a bit shy was uh kind enough and she knew what to do she gave me a little box for the fish and chips but that prime rib I

Will not have a problem finishing it that looks so appetizing so I’m going to give the fish a try because I think one of the comments is that the fish was uh the batter was too thick or the fries and the fish being chewy but I remember

The fish and chips was a initial reason I came here because I had a chance to eat at the Gordon Ramsay’s fishing trips at the link and uh was a little bit disappointed and thanks to some uh gracious uh People You Meet they suggested me to come here and I did and

Really enjoyed it so let’s give it a try now nicely battered I can uh feel the crunch let’s give this a try and I think we’ll need a knife and fork okay no it’s got a nice crunch to it least cutting it through fish is looking pretty good bottom a little bit crisp

Let’s give this a a dunk in the tartar sauce it is crispy on the outside and on the inside nice and succulent fish is cooked perfectly just need a bit of tartar sauce some more very good and I think we got to go for the fries and if I recall from last

Time the fries were a little soggy but that’s okay I kind of like a little bit kind of like the British Fish and Chips the fries aren’t really crisper fried but a little soggy potatoes are nice and fluffy not crispy because with the nice juices from the fish and chip soaking

Through I don’t mind that and I remember people were commenting last time that I need to have the fishing chips with The Malt vinegar let’s give this a try there we go a little bit of a splash on the fish and the chips and go for some chips it certainly cuts through the

Heaviness and the richness of the the greasy fish and chips in the best possible way got to go for another one and fries and chips and potato salad potatoes are my weakness but it certainly The Malt vinegar certainly brightens everything up going to finish this Up and of course there’s no way I’m finishing all the fish and the chips so these I’m going to pack home for a midnight snack and I’m going to do a little bit of a switcher with the prime rib there we go and this again is very

Heavy and I hope I didn’t wait too long I should not let the prime rib wait but look at this wonderful rib cap lots of fat in the best way and I think we’ll start off here nice and tender little bit of horseradish and a little bit of the

Oou that just melts in your mouth luscious and tender fatty and I know I waited a while but that is still looking so succulent and it tastes fantastic lots of great flavor more of the you the rib cap Alone is worth the meal absolutely tender so from the common where the prime rib is tough and dry I’m happy to say that has been disproven and the fish and chips are quite nice too it does run a little bit soggy so may be plausible but certainly not chewy very nice and as

Good as a rip cap is we do need to balance it out from the eye of the ribeye and this is generally not as fatty as the rib cap but still very good a little bit here and I think this time a little bit of the gravy very tender perfectly cooked this

Is medium rare and I think it is on point very different from the rib cap from the ri eye different textures but still very enjoyable and very tender dip number three or dip number two got to go for the potatoes and I know again this is nothing fancy a standard mashed potatoes with

Gravy comforting and that’s all you need exactly what I expected $26 huge piece of perfectly cooked prime rib potatoes and salad oh and the green beans it’s a green bean so I think I’m going to finish this off and pack up the fish and chips before

Heading over to our next spot which is uh not value but more extravagance and uh in the best vaguest way and that is Peter Luger’s and I heard the portions there are big so hopefully I’ll find a friend who is willing to join and uh I could certainly use a friend even today

As well so this is huge so uh thank you and then I’m going to finish this off and take you back for my final thoughts I still think the chips is a very good deal that was a big prime rib and if I’m not mistaken I think this is this is a

King cut prime rib and there’s a double cut which is twice as much but I I think they gave me a piece that was comparable to the one the double cut I had last time so really filling and I think it’s based on the luck of the drawer the luck of

The cut and as big as it is that generous rib cap so succulent so easy to finish and everything was perfectly cooked throughout so uh I think based on the comments yes true uh French Onan soup on the salty side the fish and chips crispy relatively light batter and

Still a great deal for $14 and change but again the prime rib the positive comments on the prime rib definitely on point so this is the village pub at Lis Island uh really enjoyable meal and a really affordable meal at that so up next I think this will be Peter Luger’s

And uh we’re going from the very affordable economical to the extravagance of Vegas so uh I’ll take you back and again this is about 11:00 and I’m shutting down the place even though they’re open for 24 hours and the fish and chips have been packed away for the 2 a.m.

Snack okay so this is our spot number two for uh some stakes in Vegas and we just caught a wonderful show it’s called The Piano Man really talented guy but that worked up an appetite so uh let’s go in this is Caesars and there is the

Iconic statue and I was talking to Matt from the back and Al buffet and he was mentioning that they have uh a new steak place Peter Luger’s uh from New York and when I was in New York I never got a chance to try it so it’ll be kind of

Nice to try it here in Vegas where everything is is available so uh I think it’s just right up there it’s right across from the Bal Canal or adjacent to it because right there is the lineup for the banal and right in front behind the

Bar I believe is Peter Luger and I can see the sign now hey Christine hey Shay welcome this is looking pretty amazing I’ve never been to Peter Luger I missed my chance in New York so hopefully I get a chance here um can I get a table your table right now oh thank

You just going to prepare your table right now oh wonderful thank you oh we’ll do all right so this is an 8:00 on a Saturday night and it is busy is this our table all right okay so it is nice to grab a seed in here and this dining room is pretty Spectacular

From the high ceilings and I think that is the open kitchen over there with everyone enjoying their food and this is pretty amazing and really grateful for you to join and grateful to have my friend join and help with the steaks uh who’s a bit shy so uh at least I get to

Show you all the great food here and I see we have some drinks coming and this is Vegas finest straight from the Hoover Dam cheers oh Danny the medic would be proud uh hi Emanuel um I you mentioned there a lot of good drinks yes the uh Brooklyn

Dirty martinis which is blue cheese stuffed olives we also have a Williamsburg um old fashioned can I go for an oldfashioned old fashioned yeah okay all right so that was a nice start and while we wait for the drinks to come I actually did a bit of research uh to

See what to get and what not to get at Peter Luger or what the pros and cons were and I remember reading somewhere that the cons or the pros are fantastic fantastic service at I’ve seen from uh Emmanuel and uh Christine and Shay and uh what I’ve seen on The Crow side as

Well uh Stakes were succulent steaks were great uh nice and fatty on the con side I’ve seen the German potato salad was underwhelming uh on the steak side they were undercooked or overcooked so I think we’re going to order a medium rare and see if they meet the mark and we’ll

Try to get the um German potato to see how it is as well and I’ve also heard stuff about the onions and tomatoes a little bit pricey but uh I think we’ll give it a try and oh here comes the drinks thank you so much oh enjoy all right will’ll

The New York uh menu here we’ve been around almost 135 years so it’s not that old we’re pretty young yeah so this exact same menu as New York on the left side is our appetizers the most famous one over there is the tomatoes and onions and bacon we have

Those two together with this Luger sauce it’s very good all right so I think we are ready to order and hey Joe how are you welcome to lugers oh thank you uh and uh Emanuel and you yourself thank you for showing us the menu here so I

Picked a couple and my friend uh picked a couple as well so I think we’re going to share a whole bunch yeah what are we thinking oh I think we got to go for the steak for two what would you suggest Joe medium rares usually medium rare uh are

You okay with medium rare okay let’s do medium rare very good okay and I like medium rare as well so uh I I was uh looking at the Luger special German potatoes so let’s go for that Emanuel told me that the french fries were fried

In beef fat yeah the beef Tallow yes can I get one of those as well and again we’re sharing so this is a don’t judge so we I’ve got a friend here who’s sharing um and then I heard the um as simple as it is tomatoes and onions were

Nice and my friend is a little healthy so we are going to go and it’s a nice balance so the the mixed green and can we do a Iceberg uh wedge as well okay and to make sure we got our veggies uh you were suggesting the broccoli yeah the broccoli it’s and it’s

Also tossing that uh little butter mixture in there for you thank you very much Joe thank you all right thank you so while that seems like a lot of food and it is again I’m sharing with uh my good friend here and uh we’ll take you back when the food comes

Cheers that’s perfect wow this is the wet salad not Tomatoes This Clean salad oh thank you sir we recommend that you put some lar sauce on the Tomato okay put so in a Vagas moment our food has arrived and this is a very healthy start so I have no inkling about their

Steaks and uh eating all that nice potatoes and beef fat so uh let’s see what we have this is the mixed green salad and that is my verion version of a healthy salad this is a wedge salad with u thick Smoky streaky bacon and blue cheese and a colorful array of tomato

And onions so let’s give this a try may I serve you that is a massive tomato and underneath is an onion there you go so this is reminiscent of the colors of Italy or Mexico so that’s looking pretty good and Emanuel and Joe mentioned to get the tomato and onions

With the sauce so I’m going to get some oh thank you so much a little bit of the greens and the wonderful wedge salad this is a two-handed operation oh and that is a beautiful plate and as recommended by Joe and Emmanuel a little bit of the Luger sauce

Right here all right so I can’t wait to give it a try and uh my friend tried the bacon and her reaction was so I think that is a good sign let’s dig in and this is steak vegetarian style because of the wedge salad aside from the bacon and the

Cheese let’s give this a try cut into it a little bit of the tomato a lot of the bacon and I think this is a perfect fight very carefully I agree that bacon kind of makes you go that has got to be the crispiest but yet softest bacon I’ve had because of the

Fat and the nice rendering blue cheese perfectly balanced and the sweet tomato and the crunchy lettuce but it really is the bacon and the blue cheese that are the star of the show same thing with a lettuce and tomato so cheers that is very good let’s give the tomato and onions a try

So my one worry I’ve never had a Big Slice of onions on its own before or with a tomato and it might be too strong but let’s give this a try got a little bit of sauce and this is a definitely steak uh vegetarian style lots of piece [Applause] there Surprisingly the onions are perfectly balanced the tomatoes is nice and sweet and ripe and with the Luger sauce the tomatoes are nice and ripe and sweet and with the Luger sauce it just balances everything out and even with a Big Slice of tomatoes like this or a Big Slice of

Onions like this it must be the old fashioned I’m making things up but even with the onions as thick as this it is balanc to onion breath cheers so really nice here and we’re going to finish up our healthy appetizers and we’ll take you back for the steak to a great meal

H so we finish our appies really quickly and my big surprise is the onions and tomatoes not as strong as I thought and very tasty the green salad the mixed green salad very good it’s a standard green salad nothing uh nothing good or bad just just a nice salad but that

Bacon definitely get the bacon in fact if you you get the bacon on its own it might be too much but having it in a wedge salad perfect combination and I think I see our food coming wow sir you’re posing be car thank you Emanuel oh so the wine has come and an

Inverted plate has been placed on the table by Emmanuel so I think I know what’s about to come but actually I got a sneak peek got to meet Ed in the back of the kitchen and Jeffrey was grilling up those steaks like nothing else little

House for two and a little bit healthy that is a broccoli those are the fries in Tallow and this is a German potato salad certainly love a potato salad especially when it’s boiled and deep fried I can’t wait to give it a try but first a wonderful glass of wine to what

I think is going to be a very good meal cheers to you oh that is so smooth rich and light at the same time very fruity and I can’t wait to get started so I don’t think the steak Will Wait so these are the two pieces that Rico actually table seared on that

Sizzling hot plate as uh theer Luger has done let’s give this a try so the reviews were saying that the steaks are either undercooked or overcooked I think this is a perfect medium rare let’s give it a try that is a nice steak meaty a nice

Crust and Char from the fat on the outside with that 1000° oven and a for with the uh beef fat makes it extra rich and extra tasty oh it’s so good a nice chew nice and fatty and we’re not going for the A5 here and where it’s all buttery and

Fatty this is a true American Steak nice flavor nice meaty goodness and this is the New York strip and the reason I like a porter house is you get the best of both worlds there’s the T-bone and this is in New New York strip and there’s already four pieces

That were taken out thanks to Rico serving us and believe it or not this here is The Tender Loin and believe it or not it seems like The Tender Loin is bigger than the strip loin and with that we got to try The Tender Loin as well may I serve

You all right let’s see here I’m certainly not doing a good job as Rico has but oh look at that color one for you and one for backup and of course a little bit of that luscious beefy fatty goodness as Rico has done and one for me as well with again the fatty

Goodness so I can’t wait to try the filet the tenderloin and uh I’m looking over at my friend and she is going so I think uh that’s a good sign let’s dig in Okay so so Emanuel gave me the wrong knife he should have given me a butter knife so tender so it’s

Meaty but it is tender very tender very flavorful and how juicy that is maybe even more special with that wonderful fat and this is a hot plate so everything is nice and warm oh and they call this a steak for two seems like it’s a steak for six or maybe

Four but with the steak being tested and tried I do agree it is succulent very well season but I don’t think I can wait too long for the fries because those Fries Are nice and hot fresh from the fryer of beef Tallow a little bit of ketchup and a little

Messy but nice and shatteringly crispy on the outside fluffy on the inside potatoey flavor but I can’t get over the flavors of the potato nice and beefy oh the beef Tallow makes all the difference very nice so I got to try the German potato salad and this was a one

That got some negative reviews and uh indicating it’s potatoes and like a hash brown and let’s give this a try so nice crispy potatoes at least what I’m seeing here I’m not sure if you can hear but it’s got a really nice Crunch and definitely very crunchy on the

Inside and even softer on the inside and I think it’s because of all the nice luscious fat in there so if you don’t like fat or you don’t like a crunchy potato this might not be for you but a rich and fatty potato is certainly something I enjoy almost like a stuffing

In potato form very good so the reviews about the German potato this is something I would order and the fries as well nice and crispy it you do pay a premium here but whether in New York or Vegas you this is uh premium pricing here but given the two I would

Definitely order the German potato salad very nice and as we speak I see other people enjoying their food so far everything so enjoyable here and just another bit of wine and we’ll finish this off and uh I’ll take you back cheers all right so that was a lot of

Food and believe it or not my friend and I were saying when we came in here we’ll order quite a bit to try and uh there’s chances are we won’t finish it and uh we actually did finish it we finished the steak and the tomatoes and onions and

The bit of the salad and then the uh the broccoli which uh we’re still having an argument about I I still didn’t like it and my friend uh said it’s it’s an essential part of the steak so uh we didn’t finish the potatoes and we packed

It up but it was very delicious and uh I think it is time for dessert and you see the table here that it’s empty with a nice spoon and I think that is time for dessert and I see something coming but that doesn’t look like dessert so really

I’ll just leave you with this gorgeous dining room here This is so much Needed and after two wonderful steak dinners over two nights all the gains I’ve gotten from the uh half marathon was given up and then some but really great to experience the uh extremes of uh the dining experience in Vegas from the best value steak dinner to Vegas’s

Most one of the most extravagant dinners as well and I think I’d leave you with a few of the final thoughts and uh Ellis Island The Village uh Pub there still the best value in town especially if you’re on the Strip $26 for one of the best looking prime rib dinners I’ve seen

And still the best deal in town for the fish and chips at $ 13 $14 and uh yeah if it gets busy service is up and down so the comments were at there but uh really good experience and yes uh french onion soup very sof salty so watch out

For that and On The Other Extreme Peter lugers it is such an experience great service from the servers and the host with Christine and Shay Emanuel Joe and Edward there and you really are paying a bit of a premium there and the dinner was on the pricey side there it was uh

The meal we had was about $350 not including tips or gratuities but uh fairly even though at its high price point I think it was pretty good value in fact anywhere on the Strip you’re paying this premium the Vegas Premium from the McDonald’s to uh the

Peter lugers and uh if you’re going to pay the premium might as well choose a classic and iconic place of Peter Luger’s I honestly cannot think of anything to fault the dinner aside from the broccoli and uh maybe the high price of the uh tomatoes and onions tomatoes

And onions $20 uh a little excessive but the tomatoes and onions certainly adds to the meal so order it or bring your own if they let you so thank you so much for joining from the best value steak meals in Vegas to the most uh extravagant here or one of the most

Extravagant here and uh hopefully I get a chance to try the um one of the most classic here the Golden Steer and uh hopefully they’ll have power this time but it is a 4month weit so again thank you so much for joining and I know this

  6. The Broccoli took the place of the salad in the fancy resturants because lettuce cost more and doesnt store well. Plus a salad needs dressing , another cost. Broccoli doesnt require dressing or other vegetables with it , and no crackers and butter anymore . Im guessing they have no subscription for the Broccoli and a salad is probably $ 15

  8. Is it possible that the onion was a Visalia or Maui onion? They are sweeter and not as strong of the onion pungency.

  9. Glad to see you enjoyed your steaks in Vegas. I'm a Smith & Wollensky fan myself and, while the Vegas location was good, there's something about the NYC location that just ups the ante a little. Maybe it's the same with Luger. Hope you get to try Luger in New York as well.

  12. Another exceptional video Tim. Sorry for your experience at the Golden Steer. Would’ve enjoyed that review. Anyway, the Prime Rib looked great for under $30. That could easily feed my girlfriend and I (we often share meals). Please be considerate of those around you with regards to that Fish n Chips. Reheated seafood really smells bad. Take it from someone who worked in an office for 25 years. We eventually had to make a rule for our office kitchen! 😂

    Enjoyed seeing your Peter Lugers experience. I’ve been to the original Williamsburg Brooklyn location a few times. Ultimately I find the price to be about 30% too high for what you get. There are certainly better (and cheaper) steaks throughout NYC at this point. Looking forward to the next review!

  14. Wow what a first meal! It's goals to be able to house a Prime Rib and Fish & Chips in one go and still stay fit/thin LOL – I wanted ot comment that I am fairly certain that where they're going wrong with the soggy chips is they're not doing a double cook. With those big chunky fries you have to do an initial cook then come back and fry at a different temp? EDIT: I commented this before watching the other meal – WOW where those some epic dining experiences! That Peter Luger Steak and Beef Tallow fries looked amazing!
