I use this wine key: Forge de Laguiole Ebony
I have used this glass in this Video: Nude Stem Zero Elegant Red Wine
I have tasted the following wines in this Video:

2019 Domaine A. & P. de Villaine Les Champs Cloux, Rully Premier Cru, France
https://www.wine-searcher.com/find/dom+a+p+de+villaine+les+champ+clous+rully+premier+cru+cote+chalonnaise+burgundy+france/2019?referring_site=KSB

2013 Domaine de la Romanee-Conti La Tache Grand Cru Monopole, Cote de Nuits, France

The 100 Point Scoring System (from www.robertparker.com):
96-100: An extraordinary wine of profound and complex character displaying all the attributes expected of a classic wine of its variety. Wines of this caliber are worth a special effort to find, purchase and consume.
90 – 95: An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. In short, these are terrific wines.
80 – 89: A barely above average to very good wine displaying various degrees of finesse and flavor as well as character with no noticeable flaws.
70 – 79: An average wine with little distinction except that it is soundly made. In essence, a straightforward, innocuous wine.
60 – 69: A below-average wine containing noticeable deficiencies, such as excessive acidity and/or tannin, an absence of flavor or possibly dirty aromas or flavors.
50 – 59: A wine deemed to be unacceptable.

Some wines play in a different league: The Premier Grand Crus from Bordeaux, The Cult Cabernets from Napa, and Super Tuscan from Italy for instance. Above all of them hovers one winery though that represents the pinnacle of quality and fetches the highest prices anyone would be prepared to pay for a bottle of wine.

Wine lovers only need three letters to understand which winery I am talking about DRC, or more precisely: Domaine de la Romanee Conti. One Bottle from the Domaine shattered the record for 0.75 liters of fermented grape juice when the 1945 DRC Romanee Conti sold for 558.000 Dollars or 744 Dollars per Milliliter.

You have asked me many times and I have wanted to make a video about tasting a wine from DRC for a while, I have tried, but these wines are hard to get and extremely expensive. So when the good people from Idealwine reached out, asking me to collaborate with them I told them Yes, but only if I get to spend all of the money I make on this collaboration on one bottle of wine … a bottle of DRC to be more precise. So let’s see whether I will get a bottle filled with the Drops of God and then check whether I have wasted a fortune … Shall we?

DRC is located in Burgundy right in the Côte D’Or in a little Village called Vosne Romanée. The village is pretty but looks like many other villages in Burgundy. Behind the village are the vineyards and they are meticulously tended – I have rarely seen tidier vineyards – but apart from that they do not have anything special about them.

However, this part of the golden Slope has been highly-priced for a long time. In 1760, the La Romanee vineyard was purchased by Louis François I de Bourbon, the Prince of Conti for 8,000 livres, which was a lot of money at the time. But the price had been driven up by other bidders, including the king’s mistress, Madame Pompadour.

He did not sell the wine – no – he kept it to himself and poured it at his parties to his rich and famous friends thus establishing the winery’s reputation amongst the elites. He also changed the name to Romanee Conti. Over the centuries the estate changed hands a few times. The de Villaine family bought half of the estate’s shares in 1869; the other half has been owned by the Leroy family since 1942.

Today the vineyards of DRC are still a place of pilgrimage for winos from all corners of the world. And this wine nerd has visited the site many times over the years.

There are some ones that play in a different League the premier G Cru from Bordeaux C cabanes from Napa and the super tuskin for instance above all of them hovers One Winery though that represents the Pinnacle in quality and fetches the highest prices anyone would be prepared to pay for bottle of wine

Wine lovers only need three letters to understand which Winery I’m talking about DRC or the domain de la romane Cony one bottle from the domain shattered all records for 0.75 L of fermented grape juice when the 1945 DRC Roman Conti sold for $558,000 or $744 per milliliter you have asked me

Many times and I have wanted to make a video about tasting a wine from DLC for a long time but these wines are expensive and really hard to get so when the good people from ideal wine reached out asking me to collaborate with them I

Said yes but only if I get to spend all of the money I make on this collaboration on one bottle of wine a bottle from DRC to be more precise so let’s see whether I can get a bottle filled with the drops of God and then decide whether I’ve wasted a fortune shall We DC is located in burgundy right in the Cod door in a little village called a Roman the village is pretty but it looks like many other villages in burgundy behind the village are The Vineyards and they are meticulously tended I’ve rarely seen tidier Vineyards but apart from that they don’t really

Look all that special however this part of the golden slope had been highly priced for a long time in 1760 the Loman Vineyard was purchased by Louis franois de bbon the prince of Conti for 8,000 L which was a lot of money at the time but

The pricee had been driven up by other bidders including the king’s mistress Madame pomad the prince of Conti did not sell the wine no he kept it to himself and poured it at parties for his rich and famous friends thus establishing the win’s reputation amongst the elites he

Also changed the name of the vineyard into romane Conti over the centuries the estate changed hands a few times the dean family bought half of the estate shares in 1869 and the other half was purchased by the laa family in 1942 today The Vineyards of DLC are still a place of

Pilgrimage for wios from all corners of the world and this Wier has been there many times over the years you can walk up to the vineyard and it is not really protected but there is a sign there greeting the visitors asking them to under no circumstances enter the

Vineyard I always found it striking that you can get so close to such a special place but then again what are they supposed to do install electric fences around the vineyard however its reputation exposes the winery to unusual risk and there was a case a few years

Ago of a father and Sun team trying to extort DRC they were threatening to poison the vineyard if the domain doesn’t pay €1 million EUR the criminals were caught though and the father committed suicide shortly after in jail putting an end to this sad story the estate now makes nine gronw wines and

The coton shman was the most recent Edition they started farming the site in 2018 and the first vintage was 2019 the two most famous Vineyards of DRC are their gr crew monopole Vineyards meaning that they own the whole Vineyard and that no one else is able to make wine

From that side they are called romanti and lash obera vain is still the face and was the co-director of Dom de la Roman Conti for 50 years he’s quite an extraordinary person having made some of the greatest Wines in the world as a young journalist he also interviewed

Robert mandavi and he participated in the Judgment of Paris tasting that changed the trajectory of the Californian wine industry OB stepped down from his post 2 years ago and the domain will now be Cod directed by perin final the daughter of Lau Bea and O’s

Nephew beron de I’ve never met o de but tasting wine with him has always been a dream of mine this might never happen but opening a bottle he made should be pretty good too but now let’s see what I can find on ideal win’s website there might not be anything available but

Let’s find out ideal wine is an online platform and it has established itself as France’s top wine auction house win are available on auction or at a fixed price and they have some amazing wines on offer it’s a great place to discover wines that are hard to find outside of

France super premium wines but also more affordable gems like the 2001 DUI Dian that I discovered for €45 of course I have my eyes on the super super premium segment of the market and even when it comes to DLC ideal wine has you covered they provide you with highres images so

That you can verify the condition of the bottle they also give you ratings and descriptions of the wine and on top of that they also show you price data so that you can see whether this wine is increasing or decreasing in value I had a good look around on the website and

Did my research and I think I found my bottle it’s a 2013 latash from domain Deon Conti the bottle looks good the capsules are fine the levels are actually also fine and the label is okay I mean there are some stains on the label so I can see there’s a little bit

Of mold there which would be a problem if I was planning to sell that bottle as I’m just going to drink it it’s actually not a bad sign because this mold develops in umid cellers usually and a umid cell is a great place to store wine

Like this the back label also looks fine with some moldy stains and there’s the official stamp of the Italian importer for DRC Sonna the ratings from all major critics also look great I mean at that price they better be but they all agreed that this is an exceptional wine and in

This vintage it was actually rated at the same level as romane Conti I also did a little bit of research and I can’t believe that I’m saying this but at €4,000 a bottle this is actually fairly cheap the average price around the world at this moment in time is $

6,232 so I’m making a bargain here you know the domain is actually selling their ones at a fairly reason reasonable price but it’s very unlikely that you are able to purchase directly from the domain they sell the wine to importers in their main markets and the importers

Then sell most of the wines to restaurants again at a fairly affordable price only when the wine gets into the secondary market prices shoot up like crazy and they all of a sudden become unaffordable for most of us but now let’s put this baby into the basket and

You know I’ve bought wine before expensive wine too but this is my first $4,000 bottle can’t make it a habit though but like I said there are also other more affordable options available on ideal wine they operate and ship internationally so go to the description

And click on the link to check out ideal wine and find some great bottles for your collection I’ve waited a few days for this baby to arrive but here it is so let’s open it up there we go okay so this is the same bottle the exact same bottle the same

Stains on the front label the Vintage is obviously correct they sent me the right one beautiful and it looks very good looks delicious there’s even a little bit of cling wrap wrapped around the bottle to protect the label doesn’t really serve any other purpose but it helps if you want to sell

That bottle but like I said I’m not not going to sell this baby I’m going to drink it thec is actually very transparent when it comes to their production figures in 2013 12,677 bottles were produced and I also get the bottle number for my personal bottle with that number I can actually

Go back to the Importer and ask them how it entered the market and so on and so forth but yeah this this all looks looks great The latach Vineyard was acquired by DRC in 1933 and with 6.06 hectares it’s the biggest Vineyard they own it goes all

The way from the village of V romane to the top section of the gr crew area and it has quite a lot of different soil types and expositions so that needs to be taken in account when working the land in order to get the best out of

This special place I’m sure you as Keen as I am to open this bottle but before we do I want to understand the philosophy of Ober de vain a little bit better and this is why I bought this wine by another estate owned by OB it’s the Dom Ru Premier sh clue from

2019 sort of like an appetizer so the D Valen is also located in burgundy but in the coach Shalon in bueron further to the South this is obviously completely different teroa even though they also use P Noir there but it’s not well not at all as famous and as highly esteemed

As the area around V Roman but but still let’s let’s taste it you know one part of the teroa is obviously the person making the wine the philosophy of the vigon and I’m hoping that this is a great wine at a obviously far lower price than the next baby I’m going to

Open this is quite delicious it’s super intense very bright fruit flavor Cherry Blackberry actually fairly concentrated and rich on the palette it’s velvety juicy Lively I mean it’s not the most serious wine in the world but it’s a really enjoyable Peno while the domain de la romanti is well known for using

Quite a lot of whole bunch so not separating the berries from the stems but instead using the stems in the vinification process in order to add structure and aromatic complexity this actually only uses 20% whole bunch so you have less of that structure and less of that complexity but a really juicy

And very delicious wine I’m going to rate this 91 points and I’m hoping that the latash is actually a lot of steps up considering the price difference on Robert pacer.com they said that the nose of the 2013 latash is Heavenly on N Venice they called it dazzling so let’s

Open this finally you know A Moment Like This is really special but in my head I’m just going please don’t be cked please don’t be cked please don’t be cked so the capsule opens up like any other capsule but on the [ __ ] there’s actually a layer of wax that’s kind of

Special it’s this clear white wax for protection I guess I’m just going to ram my C scw right through the wax layer into the cork so as I raise out the cork it already says domain de la Roman Conti here on the top obviously you always need to make sure that everything is

Perfect and this looks very much perfect the cork is clean at the top so there are no signs of leakage then out comes a nice little picture of the the famous cross and as I pull out the cork even further it says lash at the bottom wow this is

Probably the most pretty cork I’ve seen in a while super long very perfect great cork bigups so the cork doesn’t smell cor which is good so here we go latash as usual I’m not going to decant or corff this wine I just want to allow it

To express itself in the glass I’m going to sit here for a few minutes to let it open up but yeah the color is pretty pale so it’s fairly Light In Color it’s kind of um Ruby at the core with brick color towards the rim it is definitely

See-through I mean you can see your hands through the wine and it looks it looks at elegant and delicate so the first sniff is already delicious it smells of raspberries strawberries There’s A Touch of Spice so black tea notes a little bit of smoke as well it’s all kind of fine

And elegant so it’s interesting to compare it to the Deen rui which is more joio juicy rip in character this actually doesn’t jump at you from the start it is kind of coming at you very slowly and carefully but you can feel that there’s quite a lot of

Substance behind this so below the surface there’s a lot going on I mean the nose is beautiful and complex but the wine shines even more on the palette this combo of lively fresh acidity fine grain tenants density and concentration on the m palette is pretty damn perfect it does

Develop further on the Noth it gets more complex but I think actually quite a lot of people tasting this wine would not necessarily think this is this crazy expensive super wellknown wine because it’s actually really quiet it’s it’s linear I think you really have to know

What you have in your glass in order to fully appreciate it so I don’t think this would necessarily win in a blind tasting with other great wines of the world because it’s actually fairly quiet or shy is maybe the better word so it doesn’t show everything it has right

Away but it has a lot you know this is one of these moments that I actually have dreamed about I wanted to make a video about the domain for a long time and to be able to do this just because of this YouTube Chanel channel it’s just

Crazy I’m I’m really thankful for these moments you know and this is what wine is all about making something nice even nicer elevating a moment and this wine does elevate the moment that’s for sure I’m going to rate this 97 points I think this is absolutely delicious and I’m

Looking forward to getting to know it better and better over the next few hours I think this is stunning is it perfect no it’s not perfect but it makes this moment perfect oh hold on something to eat would make it even perfector per even more perfect you know

You know what I mean you know I thought about pairing this wine with food quite a bit and in the end I decided to go as simple as possible in the book romanti by Rish which is very very detailed they actually quite a lot of pairings of food and wines from the domain

And quite a lot of it is centered around game so I decided to to do game but the simplest way possible so this is a wild Bo party with Summer Truffles and I think this could match really really well the wine has this fruity notes but

Also a little bit of forest floor and they say that some of these wines tend to have truffle notes as they age I don’t get their here yet but I think this this should work I know I know this doesn’t look great but it will work you

Know the fatty greasy meat the gy flavor of this and the fine Aroma plus the acidity and tenic grip they will just complement each other yeah sometimes if you have a great bottle of wine you don’t have to spend hours in the kitchen sometimes a basic very simple dish if

You can call this a dish is enough yeah there’s actually a little bit of truffle smell there I mean summer truffles are not the most rich and concentrated ones but this is it’s good yes this is what heaven tastes like okay to be honest I could drink this

Just on its own and focusing on the flavor but drinking this with something like this is just incredible beautiful delicious all right might spend the rest of the day in my cellar just eating and drinking and meditating over this wine this was quite a special experience and I’m very glad

That I was able to share it with you guys thank you very much for making this possible what a moment so thank you for watching and thank you ideal wine for sponsoring this video If you like this video then please like it down here subscribe to my channel if you haven’t

Done so already my question of the day is what was your wow moment a moment just like this with a great wine let me know Down Below in the comments but whatever you do stay thirsty as I’m going to be very very thirsty for the rest of the Day

  1. I am so interested in how you end up rating this. At the top top end, how do you distinguish between a 97, 98, 99, 100? Do you compare to wines you have tried before? Do you have something in your mind that is a 100? Is it just gut feel?

  2. I'd bet that Konstantin gave it 5 extra points, just for the name, (and the price tag). That's 800 bucks per point!

  3. I can’t taste the difference between a 98 points and 96 points so they are selling for $110-$170 a bottle. Makes no sense. Should have done a blind taste test , $100-$200 bottle vs $thousand bottle

  4. The ultimate dream, having your own private top quality vineyard to pour wine exclusively for your friends.

  5. Thanks Konstantin for sharing this tasting of your bottle of La Tâche. My wow wine experience was tasting a Château d'Yquem 1919, must have been in 2008 or 2009,. What was really amazing was the freshness it still had, the citrus and grapefruit notes. I just had the chance to be at the right place at right moment when staying with my friends who run a very nice hotel and restaurant in Scotland. I had more than once wonderful wine tastings when staying at their place.

  6. Wonderful! Congratulations on that terrific experience. Really enjoy your videos. My “high-point” experience was in 1980 or 1981. I was invited to a tasting at the San Francisco Vintners Club of the 1961 first-growth Bordeauxs. (La Tour was fantastic, hands down.) That evening, four of us had a couple of bottles of 1959 Chambertin Clos de Beze with dinner, and finished with a 1962 d’Yquem – the first time I had tasted a sauternes. No, this is not my typical night out with the guys – no hot wings involved here! I’m stil searching for another day like that.

  7. You are literally the ONLY person to open a bottle of DRC on YouTube and it’s 2024. Thank you for sacrificing your finance for us to watch you 😂

  8. Thank you Sir for this memorable tasting! My wow moment in red Burgundy was a 1959 Beaune Clos des Ursules (Jadot), tasted in 1989. Such a finesse! Oh, and the Musigny of the Domaine de Vogüé (any year!)
In white, the Musigny from the same domaine is amazing (and quite rare). Have you tasted it? The most surprising: aligoté Sous Châtelet from Domaine d'Auvenay. Stunning! I did not expect that at all!

  9. Great video – totally enjoyable! As you asked for our special wine moments: One of mine just happened recently when I had a guided cellar tour through the cellars of the Palais Coburg in Vienna. They have a huge collection, and in every room we could blind-taste one wine. In the French cellar we got a Chateau Ausone 1981. It was fantastic: very elegant, subtle – not an "in your face"-wine, but something to explore. It wasn't the best wine I've ever tasted but to taste it in a fantastic cellar like the Palais Coburg's one made it really special. Plus: I got it right that it was from the right bank of Bordeaux. I just was off with my age estimation, putting the wine in the early 90s, but I'm really proud of myself to have been that close as I'm not good at blind tastings and I see myself still as a wine novice. So that was quite something for me. And to be there, to have that close call, to share this excellent wine with my wife in this fantastic setting made my day perfect.

  10. Loved, loved the video. To hear someone taste such an expensive wine, rate it a 97, and then say it’s not perfect is honesty at its best! It is always the moment, surroundings and accompaniments (which includes the 3 F’s – food, family and friends) that make it perfect. Kudos to you.

  11. I’ve heard that shipping can upset a wine and you should let it recover by resting it for a week. Evidently you don’t believe this, since you opened it right after getting it.

  12. In the city i live there is a 2 michelin star restaurant offering a special wine pairing using the coravin system. It isn't cheap but you get to taste some wines otherwise to expensive for a wine pairing. Often they use a DRC wine for the meat course and so I had a glass of DRC st vivant marey monge. I had the fear that it would be underwhelming compared to the expectations you have tasting such a wine, but it was outstanding and really beautiful!

  13. My parents shared a glass of a nicely aged Nuits-St-Georges with me when I was 15, and the integrated subtleties of the sweet candied red fruit, the delicate acidities, and the mysterious horse stable and forest floor aromas kicked off a now 30 year buying and drinking spree 🎉. The penultimate Wow bottle to do this was the 2006 Carruades de Lafite Rothschild that I had in November 2022, in Emirates First Class at 36,000ft. The last bottle followed half an hour later, same spot, with the 2005 Yquem. ✈️

  14. My career was as a blue collar worker, but i love great wine and wine travels to France and Germany. Ive been fortunate to enjoy many great wine experiences. One of them was at Bernard Loiseau's widow's restaurant just north of Beaune in 2018 with a group of wine aficionados. With a great meal had 13 DRC-Romanee Conti and also 10 La Tache. In addition we had Richebourg, Romanee St. Vivant, La Romanee, from other top producers such as Anne Gros and Gros Freres et Souers. Bit older vintages. It was an unneccesary overload, too much to fully absorb at one meal. I was at first disappointed to see the DRC-RC was the very young and overall not highly rated 13 vintage. However, the wine was truly ethereal. Though young, it had already developed the special qualities (though nascent) that great wines show. The only wine that could actually compete with it was the dessert wine, the 2001 Chateau Suduiraut Sauternes. In its own way, also a truly stellar wine, and closer to maturity. I consider myself truly blessed.

  15. Thanks for sharing it Konstantin!
My favourite big-shot moment is either finally tasting Haut Brion Blanc after missing it for many years (its hard to find!) and just having a fresh 2014 vintage in 2017, I thought, eh at least it is the real deal but had okay expectations, but it wasn't aged nor a 100 pt vintage. Wine laughed at me .. and was AMAZING, like 98-99 point amazing, DEEP notes of "aged Riesling" that petrolium flavour, fat body, juicy, clear white Bx notes but heavy and concentrated and the almost empty glass smelled ETHEREAL!
Other big moments was a Latour 1900, orig cork and seal, B stand, freaking perfect. Tasted like an exceptional 1970 red Bx or so, no signs of being 118 yrs old at the time, just UNREAL.

  16. For wines like these that needs time to open up you should definitely include the tasting notes, impression and rating that develope later on… if you're not too tipsy at that point 😉

  17. I will not tell of my moments – my two unique finds have already doubled in price. The one I can tell is Latour, which you so elegantly have described in another video.

  18. My wow moment was when I first tasted Naoussa. At the time I couldn’t believe that I had tasted a wine that I knew would be my all time favorite. I had an emotional experience. 🥰
