Was this week long European cruise WORTH IT? We embarked this cruise ship in Barcelona and set sail for 7 nights cruising the Mediterranean Sea. We were traveling on one of the most controversial cruise ships. A lot of people said that the food is absolutely garbage and the entertainment was non-existing, BUT we wanted to see for ourselves. When we saw this deal we thought it was too good to pass up at the price of €350 per person for a week! This comes to €50 ($54 USD) per night! Here is our review and experience on this cruise ship.

What was our experience like on this European cruise ship we were on a 7- night cruise around the Mediterranean Sea on the Costa smala Cruise Ship and we later found out that this is the worst rated Cruise Line at the time we saw a cruise deal for this trip coming
To about €50 per night including meals we thought this sounds like a great deal in this video we will discuss our experiences from cost breakdowns to room tours to stop excursions and in the end share our opinions on whether or not it was worth it and if will become Cruise
People after this trip first off room tours this is an inner cabin we originally booked an inner cabin which doesn’t have any windows or access to the outside this is Phil’s mom’s cabin and she enjoyed it for one person but this room can fit up to two people it
Has a bathroom with a toilet sink and shower plus some storage space the room itself was 160 ft or 15 s m with a bed and a desk area we were lucky and got an upgrade to this external SE View cabin which was perfect for the two of us but
It can fit up to four people all right for our cabin a little tour we actually going to upgrade we booked an inner cabin which is not supposed to have Windows that was the cheapest one that’s always the cheapest one but I think the Bol was not fully occupied so we got an
Upgrade to one with a window at least not a balcony but a window and it looks like this it is actually fairly good like it’s like a proper hotel room this is the living area I would say we got a little desk here it’s very small there’s
A phone on it which we actually use quite a bit you can call other cabins and my mom is with us on another cabin pretty far away so we actually use that quite a bit because there’s no reception of Internet on the boat and you can’t WhatsApp each other they have a hair
Dryer in here which is connected to that you can’t steal it also this bowl is stuck there yes there’s a little vanity on that side I think there’s some light somewhere this couch thing this would be a third bed if you book it with like a
Child or a third person I think they would make this into a bat and then we have the bat these are actually two bats but it’s overall just a queen a 1 M 60 on each side you have a little bit of uh nightstand space little light night over
There we requested a second blanket because we can’t share we’re used to the German Way the blankets and the uh pillows are actually quite nice or at least the blankets they’re Fair they’re very big and heavy and they have proper sheets on it so nothing to complain
About that the pillows are a little thinner but also decent I would say overall the beds are okay and then we have this window beautiful window right now we are docked here at the Port but sometimes you get a nice view passing Islands or during the night the sunset
And you can see the Moonlight shimmering on the ocean and Diana actually uses this Nook quite well you can close this off there’s a little white curtain and then the proper one which blocks out the light and then the I said that a couple times in the morning watching the sunset
And reading a book very romantic very nice there’s a big TV which is a lot of information from the shippers on and we barely use that as usual and if you follow me over here actually there’s decent storage is where we put all our stuff yes closet there’s actually
Another layer here with a small safe stuff goes there and then here’s the uh bathroom there’s a bunch of storage for the size of this bathroom toilet and sink and then we got a shower which is also not that tight to be honest it’s like fairly yeah big enough for Phil
Yeah big enough for Phil and Di yeah and a second person as well and a second and Deanna not a second not a random second person de is the second person but hold on stay right there this is the weirdest thing we’ve been to a lot of hotels
Throughout the world and we’ve seen this a few times these creepy windows to the bathroom it’s weird because you have no control from the inside it’s only the outside person who can control this and it’s a little blur just in the center yeah but not enough blur demon
So overall we can’t complain about this room we do not really hear our neighbors but I think that can change if you have like a loud family with kids next door or something like that however with the last cabin on one floor and there are
Two big metal doors that lead to the the kitchen like the cabin crew only uses that so loud every time they go through out of it or in of it it closes by itself and it slams lot so that’s what we hear it starts at 6:30 7 a.m. I think
It’s not intentional it’s just they open the door and then it slams that’s how it closes I don’t know if you can see it that’s where we’re staying this little window at the end just wanted to take a nap but somebody’s in my B who are you
Mate I tenary and Port stops this Cruise was seven nights with six Port stops and one ceday we boarded the ship in Barcelona Spain and then our second day was in pal day mayorca and then the only C Day on the way to Italy day four was a
Stop in poo Sicily and then continuing to Chia near Rome Italy on day five and then on day six we stopped in the small Italian port city of Savona and day seven was a port stop in Marseilles France before heading back to Barcelona to disembark the ship the unique thing
About this Cruise was that people were getting on and off at each Port so groups of people were constantly coming and going off of the ship this made the check-in process very smooth for us in Barcelona and quick compared to the other two North American cruises that
I’ve been on but reboarding the ship at each Port stop did take a while to get through security and it took around 15 to 45 minutes for us to get onto the ship after each Port visit this can be annoying when there’s already such limited time at each Port stop we were
Expected to be back on the ship as early as 3:30 p.m. to around 5:30 p.m. depending on the port most of the ports were within walking distance or a short bus ride to the main Center of each City there were ports that were basically in the city like in Savona the giant ship
Was front and center or in poo it was only a few minutes walk to the main walking streets for Marseilles France we took a city shuttle bus that was only about 8 minutes but it was especially difficult in our stop in chiia Italy because we wanted to go to Rome we
Booked the train transfer to Rome through Costa I figured if there were any traffic issues or delays at least we were on a Costa Excursion and hopefully they would not leave us the entire transferred process was tedious and unclear it took a while to her our group
Onto the shuttle then the train and then walk us to Vatican City at the meeting point it only gave us about 4 and 1/2 hours to see Rome and we barely got a taste of Rome so like most Port stops there was just not enough time to see
This city it’s something to keep in mind for cruises like this would you say this is one of the most anxiety written cities for you yeah I think it’s because I’ve never I’m not used to doing these limited time things we have to be back at a certain time normally if you want
To avoid crowds you go early in the morning but we didn’t have that option today we have very limited time here to day so we’re a little bit in a rush to get back and get everything in so we can’t go all around the city to like the
Best places and we just kind of winging it if you’re interested in seeing more of the Cities we made patreon videos for each of the stops we didn’t film on YouTube like our stop in saona Italy pal de Maya Spain and Marse France and a quick shout out to our family tier
Patrons Ethan Mitchell Heather kuffner hessen matro Terk malkosh Megan Rosati Claus isard Lee Lim Robert J Casper Marian deer Sher and Keith Dennis Jessica Saranac Jeff standon Debbie and Ray Gordon Micah man and James love Camp thank you on board entertainment we had one Cay on this trip which is the day to
Utilize the entertainment and onboard activities we used our Cay to film a cruise food video but we did manage to use some of the amenities on the ship we utilized the gym which wasn’t huge but there was enough cardio machines and weights to get a nice workout in there
Was also a pool area but I was an idiot and didn’t bring my swimsuit on a cruise when I was packing I just wasn’t thinking about wearing a bathing suit in Europe in December there were water slides that some people braved but it would personally be way too cold for me
To attempt instead I sat and read on a lounge chair around the pool area a few times there were other forms of entertainment like basketball courts dance performances and Musical shows there were Jazz bars a gambling lounge and dance clubs we enjoyed some drinks at one of the bars one evening and the
Dancing by the passengers was so impressive these are some serious skills that I aspire to have one day I will say because the passengers are from different countries and many languages are spoken the entertainment is a bit limited don’t get me wrong it was extremely impressive the amount of
Languages that the crew spoke but that also means that every announcement and every performance introduction was in several Languages most announcements were spoken in Italian English Spanish French and German due to that the shows were a bit limited I can’t imagine a comedy show in five languages and different groups of people laughing when the punchline is finally translated into their language it doesn’t sound very fun during some of
The performances it was hard to find a seat in the main Coliseum and a lot of people were just standing to get a glimpse of the show overall there was entertainment if one desired I personally recommend a good book and there are plenty of places to sit and
Read how good was the food overall I have to say that the food is Hit or Miss sometimes the food was absolutely delicious and sometimes it tasted like hot garbage tastes a little bit like canteen food and it always reminds me a bit of a canteen pasta it tastes a
Little bit like that there is a main buffet restaurant that is included in the cruise Fair it’s open for breakfast lunch and dinner but unlike the two us-based cruises that I’ve done the buffet restaurant isn’t open throughout the entire day breakfast was open from 7:30 a.m. to 10 10:30 a.m. and there was
An hour or so window where the buffet closes and then reopens for lunch it also closes again after lunch to prepare for dinner and the buffet dinner hours were until 900 p.m. at the buffet some dishes were great and others were inedible it’s just a matter of trying
Things out the breakfast buffet had a variety of options like cereal yogurt cheese cold cuts and bread there were warmer dishes like sausages chicken baked beans and vegetables there was always fresh fruit which which was great and also a made to order omelet station that was really good the included coffee
At the breakfast was just instant coffee with or without milk if you’re into coffee it’s not that good at all there are drink packages where you can get a cappuccino from a machine by the second day we just went to a cafe and bought a cappuccino for €3 or we waited to have
Coffee in the city we had a €17 cappuccino in saona Italy and it was absolutely perfect the main buffet was open for both lunch and dinner and there was always a pasta of the day they would heat the pasta in the sauce right then and there for you there was often some
Type of seafood dish there were always some meat options and also some vegetarian options as well there were always a variety of bread and some type of dessert to choose from we honestly didn’t eat here too often for lunch or dinner because every night we went to
The main dining room for dinner we were assigned the earlier time at 6:45 p.m. if you can eat later I would highly recommend requesting the later dinner hour that starts at 9:15 p.m. because you are less likely to get family and kids our first night the table in the
Dining room we were assigned to was surrounded by families and children despite not being the family dining room and it was full of crying children we were luckily moved to another Dining Room LA colomina to be seated with Phil’s mom and there were less crying children but sometimes it’s
Just the luck of the draw as far as the food it is the same each night across the main dining room it’s a four course menu but you can select however many dishes you desire but the menu does change each night and the dishes are adjusted to pair with the port stops
Sometimes we went with all four courses and other times we just ordered a main dish and dessert especially if we just ate a lot during the Port City stops the food here was overall good some dishes were way better than others I often ordered a fish dish every night and Phil
Went with some type of red meat or chicken dish so we tried a variety of the dishes during our cruise for an Italian cruise line the pasta at the main dining room was some of the worst dishes in my personal opinion but I will say that the desserts were on point
Every time it’s amazing I just love all the desserts I can’t Rave enough about the desserts that we ate we made a full day of eating YouTube video from our experience on the Costa marala Cruise I think everyone says that you gain weight on a cruise ship and I definitely could
See that happening if you’re interested check out that video where we go into detail of the food we ate on the day and while you’re here please like the video and subscribe to our channel for more food and travel videos around the world how much we paid this 7 night cruise was
Mid December and we booked it back in August for the price of €350 per person including tax this is $377 per person and it comes out to 50 or $54 per night this does include meals and amenities and we originally booked and paid for the smaller interior room
However you saw that we got randomly upgraded however we did not buy a drink package so drinks were limited the only drinks included were the instant coffee or tea at the buffet restaurant for breakfast and cups of water were also included only at the buffet restaurant for breakfast lunch and dinner any
Drinks that we had at the main dining room dinner we had to pay for separately so we bought all of our drinks that we consumed outside of the buffet in the end this was a way better value for us we just paid for our dinner drinks each
Night mostly a bottle of water for the table which costed €32 for a liter and I got a glass of wine some nights that costed around €6 we bought drinks a few nights at the lounges and bars alcoholic cocktails were around € 7 to 12 a beer was
Around5 and a glass of the house wine was around €6 some mornings we went to the cafe and bought a cappuccino with freshly ground beans which costed €3 each some more additional costs Phil got a gelato which costed € 6 one day we also bought one Costa Excursion this was
Our train transfer to Rome which was €55 per person for a trip there and back we found this to be one of the best values to get to Rome while still having the freedom to see the city ourselves instead of a fully organized bus tour we did not pay for an internet package
While on the boat we live in Germany so we can still use our normal phone and data plans throughout the EU when we were on land or close enough to the coastline we had access to the internet but in the lower decks of the boat or on
The SE day there wasn’t any service we just used the room phones to coordinate with Phil’s mom and sometimes the cost app to message each other there are other restaurants that are not included in the standard Cruise Fair there’s a pizza restaurant a tap ayaki grill a
Steak house and a poke bow bar all of these costs are per menu item but we didn’t go to any of these restaurants and we instead spent our money in each of the cities that you may have seen in our previous videos personal opinions and was it worth it okay I’ll start off
Saying that I’m not the biggest fan of crowded areas even though this Cruise was in December it was at 90% capacity making it very crowded in the main section the buffet was always busy and impossible to find a table at times if you wanted to watch a show it was very
Very crowded although in the evenings the outside decks were usually empty and I was often able to go off somewhere and find a space for myself to breathe I personally enjoy spending a little more time in the city so I don’t know if cruises are my cup of tea at this point
In my life right now but I do think it’s a perfect family trip to have everyone organized together with an itinerary and meals planned out already I also noticed a lot of wheelchairs and it seems very easy to get around the ship so for the
Price that we paid with our deal I do think it was worth it even though the food wasn’t the best at times there are still good dishes and oh my God those desserts chef’s kiss to some of them they were so good and if I do a cruise
In the near future it will probably be a smaller cruise and maybe a river cruise or something so for my verdict this was my first cruise ever I’ve never done it and Costa kind of has the reputation of being the cheapest and potentially the worst cruise out there overall I have to
Say I kind of liked it but I did not love it I think for me there was a big pacing problem like on board the pace for me is a little bit too slow everything is so crowded there’s always people in the way the cues are very long
Getting on board and offboard there was always such long waiting times and it took quite a lot of patience to to deal with that and then during the port stops when you’re in the cities it was kind of like the pace is too fast because you
Only have like 4 hours 5 hours 6 hours to explore a new city in potentially a country that you just arrived in and that in my opinion is way too little time I would just love to have like an overnight or just more time in a city
Was it worth it and I would say for that price absolutely yes and I think for the price I would do it again just think about it you pay $50 a night per person or like 100 for the whole room a very decent hotel room and that hotel room
Brings you to a new major city or even country every day or two and then on top of that you get pretty decent food you get a gym you can get all that entertainment and bars and all of that for basically a affordable hotel room price so bang for your buck absolutely
Um I would recommend it I would do it again and yeah I kind of enjoyed it after all stay three means 3 kog gained already I think the a fun still so full I think there’s a fun fact where people gain like 10 lbs on a cruise we’ll see we’ll see challenge accepted

I've never been on a cruise ship, but just from these videos I gotta say that looks really nice.
Summary:
Every cruise is an environmental catastrophe! 🤷♂
Cruising is great fun but as you said small crowded ships with better dining options are the quay ( sorry had to throw that pun in )
My personal opinion on ship cruises is that you have a wonderful opportunity to explore where you want to stay for a longer period. Let's say, you find out that you like Sicily very much, you can book a two week vacation afterwards in order to check out the island.
One day is definitely only enough to explore a city or an area … but you can get a good first impression.
Good morning, but don't think it is incorrect and people from Bangladesh contact me and propose to like this page for a payment of € 5.It's an incorrect behavior in fact I put dislike
Cruise with Ben and David went on another budget cruiseline a while back in Greece, and that cruise looked absolutely amazing in every way. It was a pretty small ship too. If I remember it correctly, the cruiseline they went with was called Celestyal Voyages or something along those lines. So maybe look that up if you want a more relaxing, less crowded cruise with better food, while still in about the same price range or just above. Think the cruise Ben and David was on, went from Athens and it was a Greek islands cruise
I liked the Italian Line much better. I went on crossings and cruises when I was very young.
Pls show us life where u live in Germany ❤❤
food, room and ship look absolutly shocking, and also the ports are not cool at all. thanks for showing this mess.
I did a very similar cruise with MSC in January (Barcelona, Marseille, Genova, La Spezia, Napoli, Palma de Mallorca) for 55€/night as a solo cruiser. For the price alone, you would easily spend 30+€ per meal if you eat a 3/4-course meal in Italy at a touristy area.
To me, cruising is 50% about the ship, 50% about the destination, which is why you cannot expect to have a deep, immersive experience compared to staying on land, but just a gentle introduction or a relaxing re-visit of a place.
I cruise when it is good value for money, just like some people like a cheap all-inclusive beach resort in Turkish Riviera or Egypt in winter. But with cruising, you get the added benefit of seeing new place every day.
Hi Deana and Phil, I enjoy your video's and reviews. This serie of the cruise was fun to follow.
For this video I like to know if the food from the buffet was still warm? My experience with buffets is mostly the foot is cold or at least not warm.
I found you guys due to my German purity so when I saw Deana make videos with Phil I was drawn to it because there isn’t a lot of German YouTubers out there
Inner cabin means no window 😮
Don’t complain if you decided to travel cheap, you get what you paid for –
You don’t really gain on a cruise ship because your always walking around on the ship, going from one end to the other, going up and down the stairs, not always taking the elevators because they would be sometimes full
Port stops are usually 6 to 8 hours, if passengers all come at the last minute to board the ship after their excursion, yes it will take time to board again- experience cruisers know this so they plan accordingly to avoid the crowds
Poor Costa. They have never recovered their reputation after one of their ships capsized.
Have you thought about River Cruises – no kids and smaller groups
The very BIG water bus ride! I would like to try that, however, 3 countries in a week, warum nicht? From what I know about these Mediterranean cruises, I would pass on trying to see Roma while stopping in C-town, just look around there or stay on the ship cuz everyone else is trying to go to Rome! Have the ship to yourself that day!
real f’ing tacky that you use a carnival ship in your thumbnail but the actual review is for a costa ship!!!
The adverts for Costa cruises
have people on land enjoying themselves
I call the style of advert the "glad to be free from the cruise"
LOL
