If you like fuller-bodied, tannic, and acidic red wines like Cabernet Sauvignon, explore the grape varietal Lagrein from Northern Italy from the Alto Adige region. This Italian wine is stunning, and I was lucky enough to find it recently here in Oregon!
Hey folks so it’s been a while since I’ve done a video on a specific grape varietal but I was inspired last night by this bottle that I opened up from local producer libertine here in Oregon and it was a red blend of tempero and L Grine and many of you may already know
About tempero it’s a fairly mainstream grape varietal but you may not know a ton about L Grine I know I certainly don’t get to drink L Grine a lot and so I had to even look up some information for the purposes of today’s video but yeah I wanted to share kind of some
Findings and I encourage you to explore this great varietal in 2004 and Beyond or not 2004 2024 and Beyond okay so L Grine is an indigenous Italian grape varietal that is primarily grown in the alto ad region in Northern Italy and it’s this Alpine region and you really
Do not see this scpe grown outside of Alto AI J and so it’s really cool that libertine was able to you know be able to find this varietal here in Oregon and make a wine with it but if you are someone who likes Cabernet Savon I think
That it has similar characteristics to a Cabernet um it actually is a cousin to sarra and a grandchild grape to Pino Noir but for me it you know it has the pigmentation of a sarra I know this isn’t a great example this wine in particular but it’s a very pigmented
Grape but it has these kind of black and purple fruit characteristics to it it’s got some Violet notes to it some black pepper and then similar to Cabernet it has this really nice acidity and these strong tannins and so it can age really well and I think it’s a perfect winter
Wine because it pairs so nicely with a lot of pork dishes like I would choose a roasted pork tenderloin to pair with lrin or even go with like a hearty beef stew or something so anyways I think it is a really fun varietal to explore and
Check out and yeah let me know in the comments if you have any experience with L Grine if you have any opinions on it and I’ll yeah I encourage you to Branch out out and try some new wines this year so that’s it for today okay bye
