After spending 2 and a half months traveling through Italy this last summer we had a lot of requests from our viewers for an itinerary through there yeah um we’re not going to write you one up no but we will do a video on what we think would be a good itinerary now this

Isn’t necessarily the itinerary we went on but it’s one that we would on if we to go back yeah so what we are going to start with is we are going to start with a two we itinerary just because that seems to fit into most people’s

Schedules yeah and we’ll get to a 3- week by the end of the video now our suggestion of where to fly into and to start your adventure is to fly into Rome and you’re going to spend two nights in Rome no I think two nights is probably

Enough you’re going to be busy but that’s okay because you’ve only got two weeks so when you get to Rome I think you’re going to want to hit the Coliseum first yeah Coliseum is a musty there’s also the pantheon there is the Spanish Steps there’s the Trevy Fountain which

The Trevy Fountain try and go in the morning because boy at night it gets busy so plenty to go see and do and when you are staying in Rome the suggestion that we would have as far as a location to stay because you are only there for 2

Days is centralize yourself kind of right there in the Oldtown which really has all of your main historic sites right near you yeah except 4 One and that’s the Vatican you will have to walk maybe 2 miles to get to the Vatican there are Ubers and taxis but there’s

Also a lot of traffic so you might save yourself time by getting in a walk okay from Rome you’re going to want to jump on a train you’re going to want to head east to barie and you’re going to want to spend three nights M now when we have

You go to barie that it’s not necessarily because of B itself like we weren’t the biggest fan of that location but it is the perfect place to centralize yourself so that you can go and explore pulia a great launch point right it is a musty area so on day one

When you arrive you’re going to just go and explore around B uh and then but then on day two get on a train and go and explore some of the beach towns which are absolutely beautiful yeah and you’re going to want to get on a bus on

Day three and go to the white houses the white Huts that you see when you Elber Bell when you’re researching this it is a really really cool place we found a nice little wine bar had some really good wine sat there it was sunny out that day it was yeah beautiful that was

Probably one of our favorite stops but there are a lot of day trips that you can do from your location there now where you want to centralize yourself as far as a place to stay is we stayed right next to the train station which also really has you in walkable distance

To the downtown area of bere so you’re nice and close to everything but boy where we stayed you could just cross over uh the the street right there there and we were at the train station so it was ideal uh it’s also a great point because that’s where you catch your bus

As well to go to Alber bow now you’re going to get on a train and you are going to head to Florence Florence you’re going to want to spend three nights because it is once again a great Central Point to put yourself to go and explore now the first thing you’re going

To want to do when you get there is you’re going to want to go to the Florence cathedral make sure you get your tickets online a day or two before it’ll save you some hassle because it does get crowded that line gets incredibly long so that’s great advice

Uh there is a lot to go see and do in this town if you want to see any of the statues the Michelangelo’s David uh you can go to the Central Square and see a lot of replicas of different statues you can also go to a cool little Lookout

That looks over the top All Over Florence as well and there is some more statues up there you can get a you can get a taxi up there as well we chose to walk not really knowing how far away it was there were a lot of people but

There’s a lot of walking to do there’s a lot to see in Florence but again make sure any of the things that cost you money that you have to buy a ticket for jump online and do that ahead of time now on day two the thing that we highly

Suggest doing is you need to get out to some of the really cool Villages that are around there check out a winery a Tuscan Winery um and the easiest way to do this is to just book a day trip yeah that’s what we did you know you got to get out to tusk

And you got drink wine the wine in tusy will taste better than any wine that you’ve had from tusy because you’re in tusy drink it it’s really great it’s a lot of fun get out to the countryside like Harry was saying we booked a day trip a tour which was really really

Convenient now on day three you really just want to allow yourself more time to go and explore Florence because there is a lot to go see and do and I highly doubt that you were able to accomplish that in the first day yeah go out for dinner get yourself a steak Florentine

They got amazing steaks there they’re really well known for mix it with a bottle of red wine now we didn’t do that cuz it would have blown our budget it’ll take about 50 60 Euro to do that but uh it might be worth it yeah now where you

Want to stay when you were INF Florence is really everybody tends to go right to the city center right to the old town and I would highly suggest against that uh where we stayed was on the other side of the of the river you’re still near

All of the key points that you are going to want to see but you’re away from the craziness all day long uh it still has you near Great grocery stores and everything so just kind of check out that area as a place to I would not recommend the Airbnb we stayed in but

The area we stayed in was where you want to go yes now from Florence you’re going to want to jump back on the train easy train trip out to the coast to sin ter now there’s five villages in sary to explore so you want to stay at least two

Nights yeah definitely make sure you allow yourself the time to stay we did try and make this as a day trip out of Florence and that was a big mistake we missed out on so much being able to really just enjoy all of these really cute towns that all have something

Different to offer um there is a train that runs in between that runs in between yeah and you know what you don’t even have to take a train there are trails that connect the towns and now it’s going to be a long day hike but you

Could do it yeah that’s it’s a really popular thing to do when you’re there is to hike in between some of the towns once again you do have to buy a ticket to get into uh what the this Park area and to be able to access those Trails so

That is something you’ll want to do ahead of time now when you are going um as far as where to stay like we said there’s five Villages you can stay really in any of them and you’ll be happy uh the most popular place where a

Lot of people stay is in rig majori I believe it’s called Uh and that is the largest of the town so it’s going to have a little bit more going on um because some of these towns are pretty small so if you you want a little more

Action at night that would be the location for you yeah if you’re into the party scene one point I’d like to make with that ticket you also get access to the bathrooms which you uh might appreciate if you don’t have the correct change to pay to get in yeah that

Included the bathrooms it included Wi-Fi on the train and it includes the train now next you’re going to hop on a train again and head to Milan another short train ride uh you’re going to want to allow yourself two nights in Milan yeah and the first thing you’re going to want

To do when you get there is the Cathedral again get your tickets online a day or two before get that ticket for the first showing in the morning because they do fill up and I’ll tell you what it gets crowded yeah it gets really crowded and if you don’t get them

Beforeand just make sure that you also just maybe get there in the early morning they’re going to give you a time slot for that day and then you can kind of go sightsee and then come back for your time slot which is what we had to

Do and it works but ideally get ideally get it in the head yes yeah so there is a lot to see and do here right next to the cathedral is also the Galleria uh it is just a huge shopping mall with a lot of kind of higher-end shopping but if

You don’t want to do any higher-end shopping like us you can easily just look around because it is beautiful this is also where you want to see Leonardo D Vinci’s Last Supper again you’re going to have to buy tickets to do that so get them online yeah now also the barera

District this was a district that we just kind of stumbled across and uh Absol absolutely fell in love with this area it would be a great place to stay it might run you a little bit more but uh we really like the feel of that district and if you don’t stay there

Just go walk through it it’s really cool yeah it was our first Milan was our first real experience in Italy and this District made us feel like we were in Italy if that makes sense because it was very very photogenic now where you want to stay when you’re in Milan you want to

Stay as near to the cathedral as possible when you are looking at a map because this is going to keep you Central and and in walking distance to all the sites that you’re going to want to see now the other beautiful thing about Milan is is that the

Transportation system was so great and so easily to easy to access and if you do stay near the cathedral there were metro stops all around the cathedral so you could just access and get wherever you needed to go they also have your double decker uh tourist bus Hop On Hop

Off that you might want to consider as well now day two you’re going to want to take a day trip out to Lake comoo there’s an easy train that will take you out there again if you plan on doing this leave first thing in the morning

Cuz that train will fill up mhm there’s a lot to see at L Como this is not something that we made the time to go do and we regret doing that uh but soon as you get out there there is a historic Center that you can check out you can

Then catch a boat and take a ride out there onto the lake and some absolutely spectacular views uh go check out some of the little Villages yeah now people told us to do it and we didn’t and we regret it so we’re telling you to do it

So do it so you don’t regret it now on to your final stop you are going to hop on a train and you’re going to head to Venice Venice is a must SE if you are in Italy uh you’re going to want to allow

Two nights um I went a few years back uh we unfortunately didn’t have the opportunity when we were just this last time in Italy to go so I was in Italy and I didn’t go to Venice so you’re going to want to goh but I didn’t now

From what I understand anyway the top sites to see in Venice are St Mar Square in St Mark’s pilia you can climb to the top and get a panoramic view of all of Valencia it’s really a breathtaking area it’s very beautiful uh the other thing

That you want to see is the RTO Bridge you want to see uh the Grand Canal and honestly if you’ve ever seen any pictures of Venice what you see is all of the canals that go just winding through the town and so just taking a day to really just explore and wander

And I’m going to say it but but you’re going to get lost it’s just what you do there so uh just take that time and enjoy it it sounds like a cool place and sorry I missed it it’s beautiful now the other thing that a lot of people do when

They are there is the gondola ride I’m not going to necessarily recommend you do a gond ride gondola ride unless that is on your bucket list to do uh they are incredibly expensive and uh I just sat back and watched and other people do the gondola ride and that was actually

Pretty cool now where to stay when you go to Venice this is where I would stay if I ever went to ven would be San Marco Square it’s right in the middle of everything it’s walking distance you can get on those gondolas you can go anywhere you want yeah it just keeps you

Really Central to everything and you can walk and and get where you need to be so that’s a good location to put yourself now that ends our two week and the one thing if you’re ready to go at this point the one advice I’m going to give

You is a kind of a fun little thing to do when you are in Venice to get to the airport you can actually take a water taxi that takes you directly to the airport now when I first heard about this I was like there’s no way that a

Water taxi takes you right to an airport but it actually does it stops at the airport has a walkway and you walk and then it it leads you right into the airport so that’s just kind of a fun thing to do may not be the fastest way

To get there but it’s a fun way to get there now the one thing that we didn’t mention is that you can reverse the order of that itinerary to either direction so if you would prefer to fly into Venice and then leave out of Rome

You can do that or or go the direction that we told you so now if you have that extra week that you want to add on to an itinerary we’re going to just give you the things to add and where to make the changes to your schedule now if you do

Have the extra time and you’ve got the full three weeks you’ve got to get down to Sicily and we’d recommend flying into Katana now on your first day in Katana you want to just go and explore the old town uh kind of just take that all in

And then also go see the Roman Theater yeah the Roman Theater the pza doo uh the castle is right there there’s a lot to explore so that’s what you want to do on day one right on day two we’d recommend taking a bus to Syracuse that is where the ancient Greek

Theater is that you’ve probably seen pictures of right and there’s also Oria Island uh which we hear is absolutely beautiful and then also you want to go to the cathedral so plenty to kind of fill a day and just go explore now once again where you want to stay when you’re

In Katana you really just always want to centralize yourself when you only have a couple days try try and get as close to all the historical sites as possible so that you’re not spending time having to get Transportation so just put yourself right in the center now your next

Additional stop that you’re going to add is you’re going to hop on the train and you’re going to head to tropia now tropia is a small little Beach Town set up on a Cliffside absolutely really adorable uh you’re going to come in on the train and kind of if as long as you

Make sure that you are staying right in the center of the main town uh you’re going to be within walking distance of the train station so it’s really easy you can walk and you you can take a cab too if you’re not able to make that walk

But it is walkable uh cute little town we stayed in a boutiki hotel with a little balcony that looked over everything it was beautiful yeah it was beautiful now you’re only there for one day so make sure and get on a train that hopefully gets you there earlier in the

Day so that you can just spend that day exploring one day is really enough or one night is plenty the next day you’re going to want to travel by train to the Alo Coast for two nights now we’ve all seen images of the coast of Italy yeah

Got to get there yeah so you can there’s so many different areas that you can go and visit you can go Al miti you can go to patano and once again all of these little Villages have a little bit different to offer they’re all perched up on hillsides looking over colorful

Buildings just beautiful rello and Atron or two other communities you want to get to you can get there by a bus the buses run between all of these places M now as far as where you want to stay you really can stay in any of these locations uh

Some of these areas can get a little expensive and some of them can get really busy during tourist times another option of an area to stay is called sarento it’s set just right outside of there makes it very easily accessible to go on day trips and explore the

Coastline uh but you might have a few more options of places to stay yeah and if you do take a bus through these communities maybe take some Dramamine yeah because we understand uh it’s quite windy it’s very windy yes okay next you are hopping on a train again you are

Heading to roome and just follow the same two-day itinerary that we gave you before so now you’ve got more time you’re going to take that train to Bari and you’re going to stay four nights and on the fourth day you’re going to head down to leie MH we heard so many we had

So many people when we were there because we didn’t make it to Ley and we had so many recommendations from people that we had to make it down there so un fortunately we didn’t we hope you do add that to your list of places to go to

Yeah um one of my one of my good friends told us to get there and and again we couldn’t make it because the shangan time that we were there so we had to cut that part out of our itinerary uh but it comes highly recommended yeah so after

That you’re going to hop on a train and you are going to head to Florence for the same 3day itinerary that we shared before so you’ve got one extra night in Florence you’re going to want to take a train either LCA or Pisa and stay at

Least one night yeah and each of these towns have a lot of different things to just go see and do uh Luca came highly recommended for us to go to uh as well as pza so make sure and add those to your list okay and next you are heading

To Chinko for two nights and you’re going to follow the same itinerary from sink ter jump on the train and head to Malon follow the same two night itinerary for the two weeks mhm and then you were heading to Venice for two nights as well and just follow that same

Itinerary now like we said and that’s where you’re going to end your 3 weeks but like we said you can do these in either direction so start on whichever side you want to start on now there’s a lot to do in Italy obviously we couldn’t

Do it all and we were there for two months so we kind of did a condensed version on maybe what we should have done maybe what we would do if we went back yeah this was a nice condensed as far as the things we did that we absolutely loved and probably the

Recommendations we received really highly that we just didn’t have time to go do and this is also just a suggestion of the days to spend and you can also if you don’t want to go to one place but you want to spend more time in another

Just kind of adjust it accordingly out a day here take a day off there and do what you need to do right you know Italy’s a fantastic country it’s beautiful there’s a lot to do there’s a lot to see pick and choose what you want

To do and be safe yeah we hope this helps you plan your upcoming trip to Italy all right Cheers Cheers

  1. Thank you for taking the time to create these videos! I know it takes a tremendous amount of work, but I also want you to know how much it is appreciated. My husband and I when we travel , like to keep track of our spending. You seem to be experts at keeping track of everything, and everything matters for some of us. Can you share with us how you do that? Do you track it daily? Use an app? Keep your receipts? I am so curious because I would like to be as thorough as you are. ❤

  2. Hello guys, Again great video guys. We are currently in Italy for 3 months and 2 suggestions:
    1. Lucca is extremely worth it and Pisa not so much.
    2. We were at the Venezia Carnaval last week and Carrie is absolutely right, the gondola is very expensive. I would recommend crossing the grand canal in a gondola « taxi » called vaporetto and it will cost you 2€/ per person. It is a short crossing but at least you will have gone on the grand canal in a gondola.
Ciao from Palermo and on our way to Trapani in a few days!

  3. Well done. I wonder 🤔 how much this itinerary would cost?

Based off seasonality and airbnb prices. Would it be safe to say this trip would be a little over $5k rather than the $3k mark.💰🌞👍

  4. Great vlog, guys. I've bookmarked it for friends in case they're considering going back to Italy. Personally, I'm a big fan of Milan, Treviso, Florence, and the Amalfi Coast. As for Venice, one can stay in Treviso and take the train. Plus, Treviso is very chilled and not with crowds of people. The regular train only takes 25 minutes to Venice and the faster train around 15 minutes. I went to Venice, two days in a row, but from Treviso where I was staying. And after the crowds in Venice, I was always happy to get back to Treviso. I've been to Treviso more than once.
    Greetings from Los Angeles

  5. Brilliant itinerary.. are you guys doing a cost breakdown of your time in Italy? It's a shame Schengen only allows 3 months as I'm spending 3 months in Spain this Fall but would've loved to spend some time after in Italy as well!

  6. Another lovely video. DH and I have six years to start our slow travel journey. Thank you for all the great information. Safe travels😊

  7. I agree with all your recommendations. Other options too are Bergamo (1 day from Milan), Verona (1 day from Venice), Perugia (1 day) and Assisi (1 day)(in between Rome and Florence), Bologna (2 days) between Milan and Venice

  8. WOW! Great information. I’m disabled, so I am not able to travel by myself all over Italy. I definitely want to make a trip there. I do a lot of research before I travel, however, it is difficult to know what towns and/or cities are easier for me to get around. I require cost efficient, short distance walk ability (I can walk a few blocks, not miles), easy obtainable transportation and low cost affordable food markets. Since you have already experienced many different areas in Italy, would you mind suggesting one town and/or city where I can soak up the history, culture and cafe’s without having many challenges? This would just be a suggestion from you. I won’t hold you to it. I will take the rains and dig deeper in my research. Thank You ❤

  9. From cinque Terre, do not miss Genova (the country of Pesto) spend 2 nights there. 1 day for exploring historical center, the other day to spend in the costal area in Liguria. Then head off to Milan from Genova.

From Florence, you can stop in Pisa (not stay in Pisa) before heading to Cinque Terre

  10. Hi guys, good video about a two week vacation in Italy. I think it is really difficult for Americans who have so little vacation time. Because of this, they feel they must cram so many things into their limited time. I went to Bologna in the fall and was disappointed by the prices and the ammont of tourists. I like your idea of returning to the USA three times each year. I think this is smart and something that will work for you. I am looking forward to following your new adventures.

  11. Great itinerary! I might need a whole month. As a big Pink Floyd fan I would need to add a visit to the amphitheater in Pompeii.

  12. Great video thanks!

    My hot takes are:

    1) stay in Trastevere in Rome. Close to centre and with cool back streets and restaurants
    2) Naples is a must visit. I resisted it for 30 years as I had a bad experience when I was young. Alot of the benefits of Sicily but without the travel.
    3) Stay in Lido in Venice. It is on the main waterbus and is much more relaxed beach town. San Marco is horrendously expensive.
    4) Get Corinna Cooke’s travel books to Italy. She has written them on Florence, Venice and Rome. More in the works. Google Glam Italia.
    5) When in Siracusa do a day trip to Noto. We stayed in Noto for 3 days which was cool but unnecessary. A day trip would have been fine.
    6) I know you guys enjoyed Milan. I found it just average. I would sub in Naples and from there Pompei instead.
    7) Pisa from Florence is one of my favourite places in the world. Touristy true but for a reason. The tower and other churches are wonders of the world.
    8) David in Florence imho while expensive is absolutely worth it.

44k subscribers! 50k is on its way! Cheers Andrea

  13. WOW, I'm exhausted just reading some of the comments with such fast travel. After 5-Weeks of fast travel through Germany, Austria, Czech, Switzerland and Amsterdam last fall 1-4 nights in 13 different lodgings was very tiring. We are doing the slow-travel thing through Italy this spring. 2 Weeks Rome, 2 Weeks Agopoli, 4 weeks Florence and 4 Weeks Brescia. We;ll being working Digitally the whole time but think we can manage a good amount of day trips from those bases. We'll see how it goes.

  14. Great itinerary! We loved Rome and made it our base for one month in 2014. We stayed in Trastevere, an amazing neighborhood across the Tiber river that looks very different from central Rome. It’s about a 30 minute walk from the Trevi Fountain. If your viewers have more time in Rome, I highly recommend! Brian and Carrie, I’ve read that Trastevere has some great craft beer!😊🍻

  15. No one is talking about the Dolomites! 😊 I’m a self proclaimed beach-lover, but I loved the Dolomites and can’t wait to go back. We stayed in Val Gardena and would highly recommended it.

  16. In Venice we stayed a ways from St. Marks and just rode the water shuttle everywhere. Personally I never do one night stays, find it to hectic to travel, change hotels and site see all in one day.

  17. Great itinerary and recommendations. So much to see!!! It looks like i need to get to Tropea and Puglia, among other sweet spots. Thanks for the exposure to these locations that i have overlooked during previous visits to Italia.
I'm looking forward to that ice cold Peroni under an umbrella at a beachside cafe.

  18. Great summary of a possible trip.I might incorporate part of it, Florence, Venice,Milan, and then add Torino, Asti,Alba, Barrollo wine country and maybe some of the Lake areas.

  19. Thanks for the video. You are great travellers and generous in explaining everything and showing what's possible for us budget travellers. May I suggest if you are making more suggested itinerary videos that you focus on economical, slow travel, which is more your brand. Milan, Florence, Rome and Venice are crazy expensive stereotypical itineraries for first timers. I'd expect many of your viewers have already been once and would have preferred experienced traveller itinerary hacks. Tips like stay in Padua a fully underrated and great value gem of a city and catch the first train 20 min to Venice before the crowds arrive. Also, give Sicily a miss until the White Lotus effect subsides. Minimise nights in Rome and Florence in favour of Bologna, where tourists are actually made to feel welcome. Stay in one of the less famous villages on lake Como such as Menaggio. Also, don't make the whole itinerary a whistle-stop tour, stay in one place in an apartment for a full week, self cater using the awesome Italian grocery stores – Ortisei in the Dolomites is my recommendation. These are just what comes to my mind.

  20. I was in Venice for two nights back in April, my hot tip: stay just off the island in Mestre within walking distance from the train station. Then get yourself a vaporetto pass for however many days you are there. You can take any bus in the area including the one that goes directly to Venice, then hop on the water taxi to wherever you want to go including the outlying islands where it's a hell of a lot less touristy. 😎🥃

  21. Venice requires an overnight. Exploring during the day and night is literally night and day.😁
Watch where you dine. Lots of crappy restaurants that know they will never see you again. Go where the locals go. Small hole-in-the-wall. Never where there is a barker calling you in.

  22. A great idea of itinerary for a couple with no kids 😂.. after living 10 years in Italy I can Tell you Even Italians don’t do this kind of marathon. They Take one region Per holiday like rome-tuscany or venice-Florence and for the rest of the holiday they go the seaside or in the dolomites..the Funny thing i saw and it was quite suprising is that a lot of people in the north didn’t like the south,as they considered it dirty and poor.. my favorite go to locations were : Dolomites,Milan, Cinque Terre, Pisa, Florence and Tuscany, Rome, Amalfi, Puglia, Taormina and Syracuse in Sicily. I don’t like Venice as I consider it overpriced and overrated.. the smell from spring to late autumn seems like a swamp and yeah I know it’s on the water but I wouldn’t stay for more than a day plus one day for Burano and Murano…any area you are lucky enough to visit for a week or two is enough to make you want to come back a 2nd, 3rd time until you check all the wishlist❤😊

  23. Really enjoy your practical, no bs videos. Question: I liked all your Montenegro videos, but Montenegro seems hard to get to /expensive from the West Coast US. Any recommended flight itinerary for that, or to there from within Europe?

  24. My friends you always provide such interesting and detailed advice. Your two month experience already in Italy surpasses my couple of weeks. Generally I see your two week itinerary covering vast distances. I feel that lingering in an area would give more of a sense of the Italian vibe. I would spend more time in Amalfi and Capri. You did not mention Pompeii which is an interesting historical town. Not a criticism just recognizing Italy is vast. I need to see Florence and Milan and Sicily. So many unexplored places. You give terrific suggestions. Your wisdom is always welcome. Cheers!

  25. Thank you!! We will be in Europe month of October and visiting family in sicily for part of trip. Very helpful as always!

  26. I thought you guys did a great job on this. There’s so much to choose from so it’s not easy.
We actually stayed in Sorrento for 3 nights, but wished it was longer. If you rent a car, you can daytrip to Pompeii, Naples (and their incredible museum), Amalfi coast, Capri and the blue grotto, not to mention Sorrento itself. We also rented a car in Florence, and easily daytripped to san Gimignano and Pisa in a day. We also stayed in the Rialto Market area of Venice, it’s way cheaper than st marks square, and actually more central to sights on the island. There’s also a lot of excellent street food, at street food prices, “chikitas” in that area, and the islands like Burano are worth staying a third night for.
Thanks to your inspiration, I need to visit the town with the conical roofs next time I’m in the country. And hopefully next time you’re in Italy, you can take your poor husband to Venice 😅

  27. Great job!
What’s the best month of the year to go? Weather wise, less tourists wise and cost wise? What’s your average per day cost for two weeks? Like go back and visit the smaller places you mentioned, we have been to usual iconic locations. Thx for sharing and renewal our interest in Italy!

  28. Much appreciation for this fabulous itinerary. Heading to Italy again in Sept. for six weeks and will be starting in Sicily (and yes Palermo) and working my way to all the places you mentioned and more- Italy never gets old. I'm almost more excited to be heading to Bellingham, WA in July and will think of you both as I navigate Bellingham, the San Juan Islands, Whidbey Island, Vancouver and then a few days in Seattle. The Pacific NW is breathtaking. So anxious to revisit your homeland. 💝
