– There are everyday homes (upbeat music) and there are homes with a little something extra. I’m Kelli Ellis, designer, artist, and lifelong traveler. I’ve been fortunate enough to see some truly incredible places

in every corner of the world. But now, I’m gonna take you with me behind the doors of some seriously phenomenal homes. From custom bowling alleys to sprawling car galleries,

from skybox lounges to bespoke personal resorts, and more. We’re gonna take a deep dive into the world of absolutely, fabulously, utterly extravagant home design. This is “Extravagant Spaces.” (rousing music continues) (rousing music continues) (rousing music continues) Mark, I don’t know how you got me to Italy, and I don’t even remember the flight. – [Mark] Yeah, just boom we’re here. Isn’t that great? – Beautiful. – Yeah. – I mean, stunning. So tell me, what is the design around this house? I mean, am I looking at Italy? – Yeah, you’re looking at Italy. This client, we actually took her to Italy

on our Italy tour. She was totally inspired. I think she purchased half of, I think Italy had a really high economic year that year. (Kelli laughing) ‘Cause we bought everything.

– [Kelli] Well, I can’t wait to see. You wanna show me? – Yeah, let’s do it. (light music) – [Kelli] Quintessential Italian courtyard. – Courtyards, it’s all about courtyards.

That’s one of the things when I first started traveling to Italy, I love the courtyards. And what I love is they bring so much light in. Instead of a box, we break the whole house up into these areas with the courtyard.

– And so welcoming. You’ve got the fountain, you’ve got all this gorgeous marble, and then the entryway. – This beautiful facade, we hand-designed. You can see it kinda coordinates with the doors that came from Italy.

– Oh, wow. – Came the initial sketch and had them fabricated in Italy. So everything kinda really ties together very nicely. – I cannot imagine.

I can’t wait, and I can imagine the magic. – Let’s go on inside. – Italian magic. – Come on in, let’s go inside. (optimistic music) (optimistic music continues) – Okay. I mean, I am speechless, really. The first thing I noticed is the ceiling. So beautiful. – You know, I love ceilings.

And whenever we go to Italy, I always stop into every church I see, and I’m always awestruck by the ceiling. And so with an Italian house, you’ve gotta bring those type of ceilings into the spectrum, so here it is.

– [Kelli] And gorgeous, and the lights, and all the detail. Oh my goodness, okay. – Yeah, it’s magical. – And then, also magical and outer worldly (chuckling) is that. Can we just talk about the fact that we’ve got two fireplaces?

– One TV and two fireplaces. And she did not want the TV above the fireplace, so there was the dilemma. We had all this space and we go, “Let’s get two fireplaces in here.” – Well, yeah, of course, as you do.

I mean, I have never seen that before in my life, I mean- – And she wanted them big enough that she could sit in them. I’ve got this great photo of her sitting in these fireplaces. – These are absolutely gorgeous.

I mean, one would be gorgeous. – Right. Yeah, and look how perfectly they replicated them. I mean, they’re just spot on, perfect. – I cannot believe it. I’ve never seen anything like that ever, ever, ever.

And what am I looking at in front of me there? – Well, some people have wine cellars, right? – [Kelli] Yeah. – [Mark] She doesn’t drink wine, so we did a vodka cellar, okay? – [Kelli] What? – [Mark] She collects all the different vodka bottles.

And so we wanted to make it this beautiful, little, almost like a little crystal in this space. – I love it. – So it’s right off the bar. It’s a lot of fun. She enjoys it and-

– Wow! – shows off her bottles. – It does, it’s such a perfect spot. Really fantastic. And then, of course, you’ve got your wine here too. – Yeah, and it’s close by so, you know, it’s handy. – What?

– That’s the kitchen. – Is that the kitchen? – [Mark] Yes. (Kelli gasping) – [Mark] You ready to see one of my favorite kitchens of all time? – Look at that. Yes!

The mirrors are absolutely stunning. What am I looking at? – [Mark] That’s the refrigerator, freezer. – (gasping) I’ve never seen mirrors on a refrigerator, ever. – I mean, they’re right in the middle of the kitchen,

so why not make ’em beautiful? We actually patterned this whole thing as like a beautiful armoire in the kitchen. – [Kelli] That’s what it looks like. – Yeah. – Oh my gosh, gorgeous. And this ceiling. Wow, the detail.

– Well, I love my ceilings. And this is dominated by this beautiful skylight that the light fixture just floats out of. And really, the skylight is providing all the natural lighting in this space. – Wow. I mean, the workmanship is incredible.

So, so beautiful. I mean, the sink. – Yeah, well, we got this five-foot galley sink, and I was fortunate enough to cook dinner here for my client, for her 50th birthday.

We had so much fun. And look at this La Cornue copper stove. – [Kelli] Wow. – [Mark] This was amazing to cook on. – Wow. I mean, stunning and perfect in this space. The color, everything. – Yeah.

– It looks incredible. So they really love to entertain, obviously. – Yup. Yeah, they love to entertain. And again, this is one of the best kitchens I’ve ever cooked in, and I’ve cooked in a lot of ’em.

– Yeah, well, I mean, where do you, this is the fridge, but- – [Mark] Well, we have extra storage. We’re kind of out in the boonies out here, so let’s take a little walk at our back kitchen.

– [Kelli] Okay, through this mirror door. – Right through there. Another mirror door. A little secret, pop it open. – [Kelli] All right. This is incredible, what? – [Mark] Everybody needs a walk-in refrigerator, right?

– [Kelli] Yeah. – [Mark] And when it’s 110, you pop in here. Oh my gosh, that’s heaven. It’s awesome. – It does feel really good. – Yeah. But you get all your extra supplies. We’re kind of out in the boonies

so, you know, stock it up. – Wow, really cool. – Okay, so here we are walking down the gallery to the primary suite. What a beautiful way to transition, end the day. – I love, is that this? – This is this way.

We’ve got these beautiful doors made in Italy. – [Kelli] Well, of course they are made in Italy. Wow, what a beautiful space. – Isn’t it magical? – I love it in here, yes!

– And what’s so neat about this room is all these pieces she had from her home in New York. – [Kelli] Oh, wow. – And so we had all the measurements.

We had to really accommodate everything in this room to fit the pieces of furniture with the exception of this beautiful bookshelf armoire that we actually had made in Italy.

– Wow, it’s so beautiful and fits perfect, of course. – [Mark] Yeah. – I just love everything. The ceilings again, Mark, I mean, really special. The lighting, everything is so nice. It’s serene. – It’s real restful, isn’t it? – It is.

– Yeah, and then this beautiful fireplace was one that she had collected in New York also. We adapted that to this room. – Wow. I love that. You know, it feels like there’s just,

you can see every part of their lives here. There’s so many family photos. So much about them is in every room. – It’s very personalized. – It is. Wow, really fantastic.

– Okay, so we see the primary bedroom, but let’s go see the primary bathroom. – Okay. This way? – And closets. Yes, this way. – [Kelli] Okay. – Little volume in here, huh?

– [Kelli] I have never in my life seen a closet this tall. – Well, they’ve kept things over the years, and they wanted to keep it stored but, you know, out of the way so… – Wow.

– [Mark] So you got the mirrored cabinets up. And then, closed doors up. And then, drapery cubbies up above for big, you know, like the Tupperware-type, those. – Yeah, yeah. All the storage. – Yeah. – But it’s just so tall.

It looks like two closets stacked on top of each other. – [Mark] It’s pretty much what it is. – Oh my gosh. You’d have to have a ladder in here. Wow. I mean, it’s spectacular.

– Well, wait till you see the next closet. – Okay, I can’t. I can’t wait. – [Mark] Come on. So here we are. – [Kelli] Her closet. – [Mark] Her closet. – [Kelli] Wow. Just as tall.

– Just as tall. Little bit bigger. – Wow, I mean, it’s so light and bright and beautiful. Still immense with so much storage. – Right, and we did, you know, a lighter color.

His was a little more woodsy, a little more masculine. But we have this beautiful little hidden gem back here. – Oh my gosh. Of course, you do. I can’t. – How’s this? – What is this? Stop. Oh my gosh. – [Mark] So this is every gown and piece of clothing from her life, her mother’s life, and her grandmother’s life. – [Kelli] No way.

– [Mark] There you go. – I cannot believe this. This is incredible. – [Mark] How fun is that, right? – It is so fun. I’m coming shopping in her closet. – [Mark] There we go. You’re gonna be doing a lot of shopping.

– I know, look at this. Oh wow. – [Mark] Ahem. – I have no words. I just can’t. It’s incredible. And tell me about the floor. – So these are all her shopping bags that she collected over the years.

– They’re real. – And they just basically epoxied them onto the floor. – No way. – Yeah. (Kelli gasping) – Isn’t that great? – Yes. Such a cool design element.

– Yeah, I mean, they’re art when you think about it. All the beautiful bags. – They really are. Oh my gosh. This is an incredible space. – [Mark] Lot of fun. Okay, so we’ll finish off in the primary bathroom.

– [Kelli] Wow. – [Mark] And this is another cathedral-inspired space, as you can see. – Clearly. Look at that. – [Mark] You got the little cupola up there with the chandelier hanging from it. – Beautiful. – And you got

her side and his side. And then, her beautiful makeup vanity here. – I love this. This is so, so special. Again, so full of light. Ceilings were not ignored. Beautiful showers. Indoor bathtub and… – Outdoor spa.

– Of course. – The stellar view of the entire desert. – [Kelli] Incredible view. I can’t even imagine sitting there and enjoying that. – [Mark] All those doors open up,

so you get, again, get that indoor-outdoor effect. And you got the steam room on one side, the sauna on the other. – Wow. – It’s basically your own little spa right here

In this beautiful house. – Okay, I gotta see it. Show me this. Show me this. What? What an incredible view from here. – [Mark] Isn’t this beautiful? – [Kelli] Yes. – That was the whole idea is just be able to sit here

in the evening and just watch the sun just gradually set, and the desert lights and the views beyond become like stars in the night. – And you can see all the mountains.

It is so stunning here. Beautiful spot. Again, you and your ceilings never disappoint. – Yeah, we did the cove light to light it up at night. And it’s basically a little snowflake just sitting over the top of this.

– Oh, it’s fantastic. I’m just, I’m in awe. I love it. I love it. I wanna go over there. Show me that space. – Let’s go over there. – Okay. Well, that was just stunning. I love, love everything.

– [Mark] Yeah. – Wait. – Oh, sorry. – Yeah, wait. – We have a little distraction here, don’t we? – Yeah, wait. What is this ceiling?

– [Mark] This is a ceiling that we saw in one of the showrooms, actually was the office of the owner of the door company that we bought the doors from Italy. – Okay.

– And she walked in and she goes, “I want that ceiling.” So we virtually replicated it and made the size of the room to work with that ceiling. – [Kelli] Really? – [Mark] Yeah. – Oh, that’s so cool.

– Isn’t that beautiful? – I mean, beautiful, yes. Wow, what an endeavor. But I mean, so worth it. – [Mark] I love the herringbone floors. – [Kelli] So do I. – [Mark] Very Italian. – [Kelli] Everything.

Oh gosh, of course, you’re so good. – [Mark] Everything about this house was designed around the views of this property. – [Kelli] Yeah, of course. – [Mark] And here, you got this fabulous family room

that has the giant multi-slide doors that lets you connect to the outdoors. Here, we have the three TV screens. – Yeah, I noticed three. – And one fireplace. – Of course you do.

– But out here, you’ve got the beautiful views. And welcome to Scottsdale, right? – So incredible. I mean, with this kind of climate, right? – Yeah. – And this area and this view, half of what you do

in this home is live outside. – [Mark] Yeah, I mean, there’s a lot of square footage that is outdoors. And that’s what it’s all about. – [Kelli] Yes. – You get the beautiful outdoor dining table here

and the bocce and the pools, and it just… As the night takes hold, this is where this whole house just happens. – It all happens. – Yeah. – [Kelli] This is really outdoor living, isn’t it?

– [Mark] Yeah, it’s gorgeous. It’s so fun. It’s fun to be here at night. It’s also beautiful to be here in the morning. Just watch that morning light across the desert. – [Kelli] I cannot even imagine. I have to see the pool. And did you say bocce?

– Oh, we gotta do a little bocce. – Okay, can you please show me this? – Yeah, let’s go roll some balls. – Wow. – Okay, so our Italian villa would not be complete without a bocce court. – Oh my gosh.

Of course. – Right? – Of course. – This is where you finish the evening. Take a dip in the pool, play a little bocce. – And this view. So, so much fun and so beautiful. I mean, you really,

I was gonna say you knocked it outta the park, but I guess you really knocked the other ball off of its court side, yeah? – There we go, yeah. A little bocce ball. – Bocce humor. – Bocce humor.

– Really beautiful. I have been transported to another time. – I’m glad you enjoyed our trip to Italy today. – I really did. Thank you. – Ciao, ciao. – I can’t wait to see where you take me next.
