Hey everyone welcome back to Homestead corner I’m Jenny and today we’re going to whip up a chunky Italian style spaghetti meal in a Jar we love to take our freeze-dried and dehydrated ingredients and make a meal in a jar so we’ve got emergency meals that are just Add Water fast and simple on The Pantry Shelf when you need it it’s there and you can make these ahead in big quantities and have a ton of them
On the Shelf today I’m going to whip up a chunky Italian style spaghetti with that’s meal in a jar you can do this in a jar a quart siiz jar or you can do it in a um myar bag as well you could even put put them in Ziploc bags but you’re
Going to want to make sure you rotate those cuz Ziploc bags don’t hold their seal for a very long time and you want to make sure that you’re keeping it airtight so I like to use a jar so that is what I’m going to do today so we are
Just going to use a few ingredients from our prepper Pantry I’ve got mushrooms sausage these are freeze dried you can use dehydrated as well I’m going to use uh dehydrated uh bell peppers I got to use them up from my pantry so I want to get them in there so your dehydrated items
Are not going to last quite as long as your freeze stried items on the Shelf but that’s okay they are still going to last for 10 years probably and without any issues at all as long as you’re keeping them cool dark dry and airtight you want those best storage conditions
For them to last the longest we’re also going to use some freeze-dried carrots and some tomato powder and a little a little bit of spices from the pantry but let’s go ahead and get started meal and a jars are so simple and easy to put together and we just
Love them so we’re going to get started with our spaghetti and I’m going to take and put about 4 o in my quart size jar so I’m doing two today so I’m just going to split this in half and there’s about 8 oz and then we’ll split that in half so we’ve got
About 4 oz in each jar and you could definitely weigh this out if you’re concerned about it but I’m not that fussy and if you’re Italian close your eyes I’m going to break this so we’re just going to break our pasta so it fits in the jar and that’s
It it’s just a little bit in there but we’re going to put all the other stuff down in there so um this is going to be filled right up again close your eyes if you’re Italian I like spaghetti anyway and get it I don’t care if it’s whole or tiny pieces
Or however you want if you put this in a myar bag and the bag is big enough you might be able to pull off uh having it whole so but I like the Mason jar because there’s it’s all glass and we don’t have to worry about leeching
Anything like that and then we’re going to grab our mushrooms and I’ve got freeze stred mushrooms here you can use dehydrated for this as well um not a problem both taste delicious in here so we’re going to do about half a cup of our freeze-dried mushrooms and this is
Going to be a nice chunky delicious spaghetti I love that this is vegetable packed and nice and chunky it’s it’s really good we like that so about half a cup in each jar we got those down in there we’re just going to shake these around once in a while just so everything is
Going to fit in our jar and if your spaghetti sticking out I got one weird one here I just pop that down and throw it in and that will work and then we’re going to grab our sausage I like to use a sausage crumbles for this you could
Use ground beef if you wanted to but we really like the sausage in it gives it a little different flavor and beefs it up a little bit and I’m just going to put half a cup in each jar and then I love to slip in whatever veggies I can you could definitely do
Some uh dehydrated or freeze-dried zucchini because that goes right into spaghetti sauce really nicely I’m going to add in some of these dehydrated carrots just about 1/4 cup it doesn’t have to be a huge amount but it’s just going to add to the texture and the um
Nutrients so it’s going to give you that little bit of extra vitamins and minerals that we need and we’re just going to do about 1/4 cup right into each jar and we’re going to grab our bell peppers and you can use freeze-dried or dehydrated again um your dehydrated
Stuff lasts doesn’t last quite as long as the freeze dried but it still is going to last for 5 or 10 years all sealed up well so we’re going to do about 1/3 cup of bell peppers and we want a nice little bit of bell peppers
In there we want to get get that right in and these just add such a good flavor I love B Peppers so yummy let’s see just about 1/3 of a cup then we’re going to add Our tomato powder and for our tomato powder we’re
Going to do 2/3 of a cup in each jar and this is going to make that delicious red sauce that we all love actually I’m going to use this one to scoop it out with cuz this can get quite messy these powders okay so we want about 2/3 of a
Cup not a full cup but right about like that we’re going to pour that right in get that in there and we’re going to do 2/3 of a cup in our other one okay so we have all of our ingredients for our spaghetti in there
And I’m just going to season this up now and I’m going to use some minced onions just right out of the cabinet and I’m G to put two tablespoons of minced onions in we like it nice and oniony uh you could reduce that or you could add more
Whatever you want you just adjust it to your flavor definitely that’s the best thing about making your own meal in a jars you’ve got all these emergency meals and you actually like them I’ve bought so many that I just do not like and I love these because I can do it
Myself and make it exactly how I want it and then I’m just going to use a Italian seasoning and I’m going to put one tablespoon good healthy heaping tablespoon in there of Italian seasoning in each jar I like like lots of flavor keep it right up I say and then we’re just going
To add salt and pepper to taste a little pinch in each not too much but I like to get that in there because we love it and that is it that is your Chunky spaghetti meal in a jar this is so delicious and so easy to make um once you get here you
Can add your oxygen absorber and put a lid on and seal them you can use a vacuum sealer to seal them you can seal them in myar any way you want as long as you’re getting them airtight they’ve got to be airtight and if you’re putting
Them in Ziploc bags uh you just want to make sure you’re keeping those rotated frequently because the Ziploc bag doesn’t hold their seal for a very long time and most of them are not really airtight to start with so we’re going to take one of these over to the stove and cook one
Up all right to get this started I’m just going to put my pan up on high and we’re going to add about 5 cups of water to this and you can add six cups but I would start with five and if you like your sauce thinner then go with the six
Cups but it definitely depends on five to six cups I like it better at the five mark because it is going to not be so thin but we don’t really like that and I forgot to mention while I was putting this together if you like your spaghetti
Sauce a little bit sweet you could add honey crystals or some sugar to this uh just a teaspoon or two uh and it will give you a nice little sweetness to it but I I’m not into the sweet so I don’t do that and but we’ve just got our five
Cups C of water in here and I’m just going to pour my jar everything right in there and we’re just going to bring this right up to a boil and get this baby cooking just want to get those noodles down in that water give it a little stir
Make sure there’s no clumps in your powders or anything and we’re just going to bring this right up to a boil okay so once we have this up to a good rolling boil we are going to turn this down to a simmer and we’re going to
Let this cook for about 10 to 12 minutes we can put it down pretty low just on a simmer and we just want to let all those flavors get together and let everything get rehydrated really well and we’re just going to watch our sauce towards
The end and make sure it gets to the consistency that we like so I’ve used 5 cups of water you can use up to six in this but I would start with five just to see um if it’s enough and you can always add more but you can’t really take it
Out so we’re just going to put a little cover on this and let it simmer for about 10 to 12 minutes and that’s it these meal in a jars are so simple and easy to make we love this chunky spaghetti it’s packed with vegetables and it’s just delicious
We love having this on the Shelf it makes for such a quick meal just Add Water 10 to 15 minutes later you’re eating which is Wonderful pasta is always such a good Comfort meal to have around if you’re looking for more meal in a jar options check out our playlist down below it’s got we have over 25 meals that we’ve created in meals in a jar and show you

I really appreciate your Channel, Jenni !!! The meals in a jar 🫙 are ALL good and easy to prepare. I’ve made about half of them so far. They’re so tasty!!
??Question:: Do you have dessert recipes for pint and half-pint jar’s using the freeze dried/dehydrated foods?? I’ve only got the smaller jars that are empty.
Once again, you knocked it outta the park!!! I LOVE all your meals in a jar!!
This looks wonderful! Definitely going to try this!
I am going to do this. Looks wonderful
I've used dehydrated veggies 20 years after with no ill effects!
Hello have a good evening.
Looks good! Where did you get your funnel?
I still think you should start a “ meal in a bag” business. You have the knack and this would be very appreciated by the rest of us. Just saying…….
I agree with your shirt 100%
Yay .. I got canning jars for Christmas now I can make some meals in a jar 😂
Appreciate the shirt. Very true.
Looks fantastic as usual. Thank you
Looks really good! I would definitely add garlic, and some basil. These meals in jars are so convenient. I've been making a lot of them, with your recipes, and some from other channels. They are great! Thanks for sharing another one with us.
GARLIC, TOO!!!!!
As soon as I get some tomato powder I'll be making this for sure. I went an hour away today to Costco to order my new glasses and to shop. I bought some food for the pantry. I am going to town tomorrow to a local grocery store that has chicken breasts on sale. We're in that swath that's supposed to be getting a snowstorm Monday and Tuesday so I'm going to spend that time canning. Chicken, carrots, and bean and ham soup. I might as well make good use of my time so that is how I'm going to spend it. Thank you for this video.
Your bowl of spaghetti looks delish. My hubby's favorite meal. Jars of this going on the shelf.
How many will this serve? Looks good.
Yum
I love that you show the meals prepared! Thank you
Could this be put in vacuum sealed bags also?
🍝🍷 Yum
Hi Jinne 👋🏻
I love your shirt.
This is such a great idea!!! Thanks os much!!! I have a question about storing a raw nion ~ since onions bleach out toxins from everything it touches, how do you store the part of the onon you do not use? Without even thinking about it before, I always wrapped them in saran wrap, until it was pointed out to me the error of my ways. A paper towel perhaps? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks and have a great day!
I don't do carrots in my spaghetti!! I do use garlic though!! Lol
I Absolutely LOVE this this series Jinnie… Have several on my shelves and I'm certainly going to add this one… Mine will all be with dehydrated items however 🤗🤗🙏 Kendra
I need to add tomato powder to my list. Thanks for another great recipe!
Looks yummy! I also would add garlic.
Thanks for sharing your recipes.
My neighbor grew up in Italy and she said she always puts a little bit of puréed carrots in her sauce for a subtle sweetness. It’s the best I’ve ever eaten!
Jenni how many people does that feed? Thanks!
