BREAD AND WINE has forged the term “aesthetic doom” with their truly delicate-scope compositions, often exceeding not only the 5, but even 10 minute mark, merging elements of old-school metal with blues shades and drone soundtrack-score like sonic landscapes.
The band was originally formed in Yerevan, Armenia in 2018 when the guitarist and songwriter Franklin Avetisyan teamed up with Miga. The first single called “Trauma” was recorded with vocalist Liliane Demirdjian. Now the project is finishing his upcoming album with vocalist Bella Peterson. The extreme diversity of their musical background immediately proved to be essential in the construction of the band’s sound.
“Petrichor” is a dreamily muscular response to the deep feelings of regret and humility which decay within us. Gloomy, occult reminding elements blend seamlessly with riff-driven metal, to form a heady and heavy concoction that toys with the accepted modes and structures of progressive music. The result is an album that is confident and uncertain, cynical and depressed… this dichotomy is one of the band’s leitmotifs, that’s how we get all those highs and lows successfully, just like in our actual lives. We play bipolar music.
“Petrichor” is certainly challenging, but deeply rewarding listening experience. Immerse yourself in this album, and you may never find your way out.
