This fabulous castle, part of a small medieval village famous for being the place where the exile of Dante Alighieri was decided, stands among the enchanting hills of the Marche region. This castle of great historical importance is today an organic agritourism resort of extreme luxury and charm for sale in the Marche region, not far from Urbino. The castle consists of six buildings spread over several levels and covers an area of 1,000 square meters. It also has a private garden of 3,000 sqm, enriched by a wonderful hidden swimming pool. This fortified village has recently been restored, preserving its original architectural and historical features.

This ancient village has a typical medieval tower, rows of houses made of dark stone, and the small seventeenth-century church of San Giovanni Battista in the center, surmounted by a modest bell tower. This jewel-village was one of the fortifications that made up the defense system of the small surrounding province. In 1250 as many as 41 localities belonged to the Province, not all under the same lord, indeed often in bloody disputes with each other. The castle saw a succession of historical events: the victorious war of Uguccione della Faggiola against Branca Brancaleoni in 1353, the return of the defeated, the dominion of Cardinal Albornoz. The most noteworthy, as a plaque placed in the tower at Castello della Pieve recalls, “Charles of Valois and Corso Donati, on 4 October 1301, decided the exile of Dante Alighieri”, according to tradition, dating back to the “Cronica” by Dino Compagni, the meeting that decided Dante’s exile from Florence was held here, attended by Charles of Valois and the Florentine nobleman Corso Donati, head of the black Guelphs.

Today, this splendid property has found new life thanks to its conversion into a luxury agritourism resort, offering the ideal destination for those who wish to get away from the chaos of the cities and enjoy bucolic landscapes. The village has a stone-paved road that crosses it longitudinally between the houses and the tower, until you reach an arch that closes the village, joining two houses. On the houses you can admire the rustic railings and some doors decorated with typical wood carvings.

The castle, part of the medieval village, where Dante Alighieri’s exile was decided, includes stone buildings, an ancient tower and a consecrated church, which dominate enchanting little forests with their fascinating charm. The restaurant inside the resort and the rooms for hospitality use, nine in total, each with a private bathroom, are dedicated to the Great Poet. The property also includes an independent apartment of 170 sqm. The interior spaces are characterized by ancient fireplaces and stone floors of great architectural value, precious ceilings with exposed oak beams and ancient stone sinks. The decor, with attention to the smallest details, comprises collections of period objects and furniture, valuable paintings and prints. From the windows, you can admire splendid views of the surrounding forests. The exposed beams, the ceilings in slabs or panels and the local stone walls, alternating with plastered areas with warm colors, give an authentic and welcoming atmosphere. The swimming pool, in a private position, offers an enchanting view and its crystal clear waters reflect the majestic rocks on which the Castle stands. All around, an atmosphere permeated by the scent of wild roses, aromatic herbs and luxuriant fruit trees.

Immersed in luxuriant forests, this valley in the northernmost province of the Marche region is a strategic point, extending from the Adriatic Sea to the Apennines and bordering Romagna, Tuscany and Umbria. It is an ideal area from which to explore central Italy, a land of wonders. Along the coast there are beaches overlooking hills full of ancient villages and castles. Going up towards the Apennine mountains, you come across Urbino, a Renaissance town of rare beauty, and continue towards Montefeltro where you meet ancient villages, historic fortresses and princely palaces.

  10. The brief historical narrative is a great addition. Not only does it add value to the property but it also spark interest. It actually nudged me to read up about Dante. Interestingly enough, I learned that Dante’s Divine Comedy was somewhat instrumental to C.S.Lewis’ transition from atheism to theism which many believe paved the way for his eventual conversion to Christianity. Who would’ve thought? God does work in mysterious ways🙏 Thanks, Stefanie— you’ve done it again👏 Got yourself a happy subscriber here!

  11. I am a photographer by trade and the drone footage and Stephanie sequences are flawless – Like HBO documentary level! As Stephanie introduces the property with history, so naturally and seemingly unrehearsed, I thought like I wish she would have been one of my history professors in college….I could learn from Stephanie! I realize this is about selling real estate but, there must be 300+ man hours to produce one of these tours and truly the best I have seen and I continue to watch on YouTube…in the states, there is nothing new on television because of the long actors strike, but, clicking over to YouTube on my 65 inch tv, your tours are better than most programs available…I do hope you guys get your own television show in 2024! Owning your own small "town" like this property was best shown with the drone footage – amazing….I am more into modern but if this was a Bed & Breakfast that I knew about, I would definitely spend a few days. Waking up to hear the birds chirping and hopefully someone playing a harp or acoustic guitar in the courtyard….amazing how all that rock construction has endured earthquakes over the years. Thanks for another great tour and I hope you do not take the winter off from producing these…..even though I live in Las Vegas and not really a fan of snow, no doubt some of your properties would look gorgeous in the winter with snow. BTW….it looked like you could build a 9-hole golf course on this property….Grazie mila Stephanie!

  12. Wow! What a Wonderful Archaic Property that would make an Incredible Staycation for any Family or Group ❤
