Good options for people building wine lists too, I bet 💯
“Cellar Defenders,” one of my top favorite topics among your many topics of expertise, and this video couldn’t have come at a better and more opportune time. I just left Bandol with three fantastic red wines that were made for at least 10 years of cellaring. And I’m currently headed for the Rhone Valley. I’m always on the lookout for seriously good cellar defenders, and your recommendations never disappoint. I have a number of Italian, Spanish, and French “cellar defenders” back home that were inspired by your recommendations and preferences. This time, I hope to find Clos des Papes "Le Petit Vin d'Avril". Wish me luck!
Immensely enjoyed this excellent video — truly very helpful and useful; brilliantly written, created, and delivered, as always! Santé, John! Greetings from France!
Great recommendations. Cellar defenders are for true wine fanatics. Honestly, these wines would be the summit for all of my friends. My philosophy is that we only have one life and should enjoy it while it lasts. Cheers.🍷
I should've gone to law school I guess, my cellar defenders are $12-35, not $30-50 lol
Excellent video as usual. I bet that Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico is amazing. I didn't realize that Chianti producers could put Cabernet and Merlot in the mix and still be called a Chianti. I always learn something new when watching your videos even after being a long time collector and drinker!! Thanks for your awesome videos!
Love these videos. Some of your cellar defenders are the wines that I am aging 😂
Good stuff. I love Arana but tend these days to buy the Wine Society special bottlings from La Rioja Alta – I find them equally enjoyable but at a lower cost. I have a case each of '18s and '19s maturing in TWS cellars at the moment.
Mentioning Chateauneuf, I will be opening the first of a half case of 2015 this evening: not a Clos des Papes, alas, but a Domaine la Boutiniere – do you know it?
There are still some reasonably priced red Burgundies to be had. I bought half a case of Cotes de Nuits '15 en primeur and it is drinking beautifully now – definitely Villages quality at least.
I too enjoy Margaret River Chardonnay and it is still (just) cheaper than white Burgundy of similar quality.
I was wondering, have you had multiple different vintages of vina ardanza? Was just curious since I had a recent vintage of it and it is seriously good quality but the sweet oak seemed slightly what people seem to call "unintegrated". Just curious how long would be needed for this to become integrated. (unless you think its already integrated in which case thats fine too!). Thanks for another useful video!
The Marchese Antinori is a great recommendation, but I’ve had one with a decade on it, and it was beautiful. In my price range, a need a defender for it.
John looking like he can defend the cellar from 120,000 Persians in that thumbnail.
Great defenders! Love Australian wines. Henschke was my first Shiraz. Still trying to get my hands on some hunter valley semillon with some bottle age on it.
Great recommendations! 904 is a such a steal at that price. I’ve had it in a blind tasting so many times but not a fan of their second wine. (Vina Arana)
If this video is not the perfect video for cellar defenders options at that price point, I then have perfection concept really wrong. You mention 4 countries, 5 regions and outstanding wineries. Your accurate successful description of each wine regarding to the wine making process, time in barrels, bottle aging and coupages is an impressive guide. While watching I kept saying, this is my favorite one, but I defiantly have to say that when I tried, by fortune, Vasse Felix Chard ‘17, I was amazed. I ask for another wine but they didn’t have it so they offer that one and I just felt in love because really represents the region and that freshness and balanced was unique. I really thank you for another fantastic video. It’s admirable you have tried so many wines. But even more admirable to chose the right ones for each video. A perfect And very meticulous work, John. Santé
Hitting it out of the park John! Those recommendations are wonderful, specially the Insoglio by Biserno! What a beautiful wine for its price point…
uncorking that chianti classico before ten years would be a crime. I almost flinched when I saw 2019 xD glad its going to spend some time getting to know itself
Very nice pic super congratulations 👏🎉 star ✨⭐ gift 🎁🧧😊
Great stuff, the Insoglio selection makes a ton of sense.
We need another wine store trip! I miss those vids
