I have tasted the following wines in this Video:
2004 Petrus:

The 100 Point Scoring System (from www.robertparker.com):
96-100: An extraordinary wine of profound and complex character displaying all the attributes expected of a classic wine of its variety. Wines of this caliber are worth a special effort to find, purchase and consume.
90 – 95: An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. In short, these are terrific wines.
80 – 89: A barely above average to very good wine displaying various degrees of finesse and flavor as well as character with no noticeable flaws.
70 – 79: An average wine with little distinction except that it is soundly made. In essence, a straightforward, innocuous wine.
60 – 69: A below-average wine containing noticeable deficiencies, such as excessive acidity and/or tannin, an absence of flavor or possibly dirty aromas or flavors.
50 – 59: A wine deemed to be unacceptable.
First of all, it is one of the best wines coming out of Bordeaux with a great track record to prove its ability to produce outstanding wine. It has produced more than 10 wines that received a perfect score from Robert Parker and is the favorite wine of presidents, kings, and billionaires
I visited Petrus twice and the winery is fairly small and unassuming. It is not one of those amazing Chateaux that you see in Bordeaux left bank but it has a long history.
It was for a long time considered to be a very good estate but it was not that famous initially. The region of Pomerol on the right bank is more rural and the quality of its terroir was overlooked.
Petrus began to break through after the 1945 vintage. This was also the time when the Moueix family started to sell their wines. They made the winery famous in Europe and the US and even took over control of the estate in the middle of the 20th century.
The vineyard is 11.4 hectares in size – way smaller than the vineyards of the first growths in the Medoc. Lafite for instance has more than 100 hectares of vineyards. It is located on a small plateau – not a steep vineyard but only a slightly elevated area.
The soil is composed of clay and it is different from most other surrounding vineyards.
Christian Moueix introduced green harvesting to the estate to reduce the crop level and Petrus is only based on 100 % Merlot since 2010, even though they used to have a little bit of Cabernet Franc on the estate.
They do not produce a second wine so all of the base wines that do not satisfy their standards are sold off as nameless Pomerol or Bordeaux rouge.
Quality is only one factor when it comes to the price though. I mean you can find wines that receive great scores and are a lot cheaper.
The famous critic Robert Parker was sometimes a bit critical of the estate and in his Bordeaux book he wrote that other Pomerols re on the same level or even better. But Petrus represents more than the best Pomerol can ever offer- it is more like a Myth than a wine.
That is certainly true I remember well the special moments when I was a young sommelier, and someone ordered a bottle of Petrus. Pulling that cork was an honor and the guest who purchased it was our favorite guest of the night …
The wine production is also fairly limited compared to Latour, Lafite, Margaux, and Co. and as demand is high and supply is low the prices shoot up into the stratosphere…
The price is however crazy and I don’t think that there is any relationship between price and quality when it comes to these wines. I also have to say: The Haut Brion that was in second place in the survey would have been a lot cheaper …
The 2004 Haut Brion cost around 700 Dollars a bottle which now sounds like a bargain … It is crazy how flexible our relationship to money is.
The wine that I discovered is from the 2004 vintage which is a solid year but not a great one. This is one of the reasons that the wine was less expensive… still very expensive but less expensive.
Robert Parker wrote this about the wine:
The dark plum/ruby-tinged 2004 Petrus possesses high acidity as well as copious amounts of sweet cherries and black currants intermixed with hints of cola, earth, and truffles. Deep, medium-bodied, concentrated, ripe flavors are excruciatingly firm and tannic. This backward, structured, muscular Pomerol requires a decade of cellaring, but it possesses the potential to be the longest-lived wine of the vintage, lasting 30-40 years. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2035.

The price must be kinda under the price market to make you feeling guilty 😂😂😂
Do you fear from god?
What is the "cheapest" Bordeaux that you would currently rank 100 points?
I just realize the look in your eyes, after you cantered and pour the first glass, looks like you just smoke a big bowl…hehe!
Me leaving work on Friday at 12:49
Came across this clip by chance.
Glad I did. Very enjoyable. You're awesome.
Years back, I worked for the USA's biggest importer of Bordeaux wines. Handled lots of Petrus. One client shared a bottle with us. He was an artist from France who came to our warehouse to paint of a very limited amount of bottles, for the millennium.
The infamous 1982 vintage. I still don't know much about wine tasting but, I've never had anything quite like it. I felt seduced by it, after 2 sips. The blasts of cherry was something I'll never forget. It completely grounded me and made me feel insanely comfortable.
Great to find ya, on here. Subbed.
Never worth that much 😊
Personally, most of my used cars that I've bought over my lifetime have cost me about 2-3 thousand dollars, and whether it be a good bottle of Thunderbird or Wild Irish Rose, most of them have cost me between 1-2 bucks. LOL,
Don't get me wrong, I bought a new car once in my lifetime, and I can appreciate a good bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon with a lady every now and again, But the best of times of my life were when I owned cheap second hand big American V-8 engine used cars and was getting loaded on the bum wines. (Never using the two together- Never drink and drive. Period)
I've tasted fancy expensive wines before, but here's a little secret, spend 3 grand on a bottle of wine? not in my lifetime.
Was it worth it? You didn't really answer the question as you turned it on us to decide if it would be 😂 once I tasted a 300£ bottle of wine (the most expensive I have ever tried) and it wasn't worth it. My favourite wines remain a £11 Carnivor Zinfandel. Every time I open it I know it will be a special experience 😊
Mach weiter so, schöner Kanal! Grüße aus Hamburg
Great video, congrats! Life is not good, is GREAT! (12:58)
I was born when this whine was at least bottled
The reason you got so much from this was because of the context you can place it in, the previous vintages you have tasted, the other Pomerols you can compare it with, the other 2004's you have tasted from the Right Bank and Left Bank and so on. Your average rich person just buying this because they can would not get anything like the same experience and so it would absolutely not be worth it for them in my opinion. Back in the 1990s I tasted Petrus a few times through my wine club and friends, but not since given the ridiculous prices. I do hate the way wines like this have become commodified – I remember buying a bottle of Ch. Lafite 1993 for $50 a bottle from Gotham on the Upper West when visiting New York. That is what poor vintages of the 1st growths cost in those days believe it or not. I transported it back to Ireland and drank it a few years later (2003 I think), and it was indeed very tasty – well worth 50 bucks! But it was also quite short, a little angular and absolutely not worth the money it cost by that date which was probably 3-400.
Most memorable wine I tried was Barefoot. You will never forget that experience
I am not a wine person but this guy is genius, he tasted wine then talked about it like Shakespeare.

Your awesome. I appreciate your laid back matter of fact condor. Loved this 🙌
The time we had a 1/4 bottle left from some of my great clientele at Tropea. Nah we had some really nice people, wine talks with conoseurs. Priceless because you can never learn it all. Theres a Merlot by the glass we replaced in that bottle one waiter was so excited to try. Was very funny to watch the reaction when he tried the cheap Merlot. Tignanello is a very famous vino da tavola. Allot of wine is still IGT, wonderfull blends all over Italy.
There's allot and you never can try it all.
I remember Tignanello allot like a good Brunello.
German should be prohibited drinking any French wine
I definitely got some second hand enjoyment out of this. I think maybe a nice cigar would've taken it over the top. Cheers! 🍷
GOALS!!! ❤
Aww I’m so glad you got a bottle all to yourself. You deserve it. I hope you didn’t spit any of it out for this video😊
Most memorable bottle for me, was a 375ml of Weingut H. Klein Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese, Nierstein 1976… Gifted to me by the winemaker himself as a thank you for working pruning season in February of 2000. So viscous it stuck to the glass when swirled and crawled slowly back to the bottom… Amazing melange of candied fruits. Retail was around $1,000 back then. Glad it was a gift!
If somebody is interested in older Petrus from 1947 or 1961, I can recommend the next auction from "Munich Wine Company" near Munich in Germany. … but dont tell this secret to other wine aficiondos ….
Recently, I shared an Australian shiraz – 2008 Jim Barry 'The Armagh' shiraz from the Clare Valley. Simply magnificent, with years of life ahead of it.
I'm not so sure that it is an Aussie icon, but at sometime in the future, I have a strong feeling that it will become one.
First time on the channel. Why on earth would anyone watch someone drink Petra’s and eat steak and black truffles? Buy good wine and cook good food. I will never get this time back. Best wine: a case of 1987 Haut Brion now long gone.
You should've had a couple of friends join you to enjoy the experience together!
The look of a man who knows he just threw 3000 in the toilet
I have not found a wine that i have liked, i really tried to enjoy wine, i love beer and spirits but i cannot find a wine that i have enjoyed, any suggestions.
My local shop has a bottle of Petrus I think he said for $2500. I asked him if it tastes like $2500. It's all subjective, of course, and the availability drives a lot of the price. However, I appreciate these videos and hope to some day be a fancy pants wine connoisseur
