The border post on the alpine frontier between France and Italy is crumbling. Meanwhile, down by the sea, people hoping for protection and a better life in Europe are being turned away. Europe has become a continent of contradictions. Once upon a time, the fall of the Iron Curtain and the increasing permeability of European Union frontiers represented growing unity. Now, more police are guarding borders like the one between Liguria and the Alpes Maritimes than perhaps any other frontier within the EU. Here, France is turning away refugees who have reached Italy mainly via the Mediterranean or the Balkan route and want to move on to northern Europe.

  1. Nobody, including the journalists does the most important question here: How these people get thousands of euros to pay smugglers to get to Europe. Anyone?

  2. Europe is in desperate need of migrants in order to avoid demographic and economic collapse. You don’t have enough children yourselves, so you have to bring in replacements. It is what it is.

  3. Build your home, work and pay taxes, raise a family. Look forward to retirement, and visits from friends and family, NO you must open your home and house men that you don't know, they sit in kitchen, must cook them food, wash and clean their bedroom.. "It will make your former boss feel good".. the boss you never met or knew because you worked all of your life…

  4. Grant illegal immigrants asylum to the other world. Since they don't abide to the laws, they also don't have rights.

  5. Most go to France because of the language. France used to have a foothold in Africa back in the day for their colonies. The Africans learned French and many parts of Africa still speak it fluently. Makes sense. The problem now. they are going to your backyard. Oh, history.

  6. Ever since I stumbled on DW channel on Youtube I have always rely to it on trending news and documentaries. Thanks for this border piece it's informative and accurate.

  7. So Europe thought they had the right in 1885 at the Berlin Conference to carve up Africa and take countries for their own to exploit and colonize as illegal invaders by force, and now everyone wants to complain about illegal migration. Either pay repatriation, forgive debts so these countries can build and people will stay to build or take the migrants that you use to own!

  8. This will be the downfall of the EU. Everyday, working Europeans have never given approval for this influx. National borders will soon be back 🎉

  9. FRENCH LET THEM IN .. YOU PRESENCE IN FRANCOPHONE COUNTRIES IN WEST AFRIFCAN IS QUESTIONABLE AND YOU ARE EXTRACTING THEIR RESOURCES SO LET THEM IN FRANCE IS THEIR HOME

  10. God bless the volunteers and church and of course the migrants. So beautiful to see their humanity, they exemplify the meaning of the word.

  11. Why don't you ever do a segment from the perspective of conservative EU citizens? Maybe a few families who have been victimized by the migrants. Hmmm, makes one wonder… The latest Danish data CLEARLY shows that immigrants from the middle east and Africa are a huge drain on their economy. The UN/IOM are deliberate liars!

  12. It certainly is a spark of narcissism to consider yourself eligible to illegally immigrate anywhere you want. Especially when others are lawfully going through a correct process to legally immigrate to Europe.

There there is a parallel, USA with their blatant open border policy should be able to alleviate this European influx as time goes on. Biden is overly bring in a new gaggle of voters to prop up his ideals as regular Americans are becoming dissatisfied. We should hit about 10 million illegal immigrants in 4 years arriving from all around the world. We will pay for it by hook or crook.

  13. Wow, churches aiding criminals in the name of charity and human rights. What a BS…. They are criminals, that's it. End Of Story.
Whatever charity, aids there is, prioritize own citizens! Not those african criminals!

18:47: 🌍 Migrants and refugees face challenges at the French-Italian border due to EU regulations and lack of understanding from Europeans.

  15. Every day, your reporting is more disappointing! I cannot believe that you are doing a documentary on this issue, in the Roya Valley, without even mentioning the amazing contribution of Cédric Herrou, who has rescue countless exhausted migrants coming through his property in the mountains, who has been taken to court by the French authorities for having the audacity to help people in need. After years of incessant harassment by the French judicial system and right-wing politicians, Cedric finally won and founded the first agriculture based Emmaus community, and continues to help migrants in need. I seriously can't believe Cedric doesn't feature in your documentary, simply baffling!

  16. People shouting Emmanuel Adeniji is about as dumb as me shouting Le Scouarnec and saying all French people are pedos!

  17. NO BORDERS – NO PROBLEMS
    😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

NO BORDERS – A LOT OF PROBLEMS OR ONLY PROBLEMS.

  18. I don't like how simple these people are I want to go to France, but the real question is do the French people want you……..just because you want something in life don't mean you will get it
