Every wine region we ever visited and all the other wine lovers we talked to, people kept suggesting that we visit Paso Robles. I’m just sorry it too a so long to make a weekend trip here. Also, 3 days and 2 nights are not long enough!

This place has a little bit of everything. Great coastlines nearby, sightseeing activities, a cool little downtown area, beautiful rural wineries, and great B&B’s.

Where to stay:

We stayed at Croad Wineries:
I’ve always avoided B&B’s in the past. I assumed that they were no fun. This place is great!! 10/10. The rooms are fantastic, private, and have an unbelievable view of the valley! Some of my favorite moments of the trip were sitting on the balcony or patio and enjoying the grounds. The breakfast was amazing and the staff made us feel like we were family. Really amazing group of people.

What to do:

Wine tastings are very reasonable! $10-$40 pp at most wineries and they usually waive the fee if you purchase a bottle, so bring a good wine carrier.
Most popular varieties:
– Zinfandel and blends.
– Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux-style blends.
– Rhône Blends including Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Viognier.
– Italian varietals including Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, and Barbera.

Tip: Along route 46 once you get one tasting they will give you a signed cork and a map where you can redeem it for a free tasting. Once you turn it in you get another signed cork! You can spend a whole day or weekend visiting all the participating wineries.

Some of the wineries we loved:

So good! and they have ports!
Live music and great views.
Live music, great wines
Great area in back for groups, lots of Italian varieties.

Places to see:

Downtown Paso is great! Don’t miss the speakeasy, either of the two Italian restaurants or the many tasting rooms!

Hearst Castle is worth the bus ride to the top. Their tours are a well-oiled machine. Go on your first full day there are a few small towns on the way that are worth stopping at!

How to get around:

Rideshares are readily available all over. The only place you would need to use your car is to get to Hearst Castle.
