After 5 days in Tuscany we set off north.
First stop was Candalla, north of Lucca, wherew we climbed up the pretty torrent and bathed in rockpools.
We stopped for 2 nights in Donnas where we stayed in the chalet style La Maison des Vignerons. We swam in the nearby Torrent Fer at Picnic area Chignas.
We then drove over the Great St Bernard Pass, stopping at the lake at the top, where it was far too cold to swim.
On through Switzerland and into France where we stopped at the village of Avanne-Aveney near Besançon.
From there we drove to St Omer, staying overnight before taking Le Shuttle to England.

What a fun idea – swimming your way to England. You did find some fantastic water holes. I use to swim all the time – I wonder if I even remember how anymore. Sorry it rained on your plans. It's been the summer of rain – it is here. But, the kayaking looked like fun. And, the scenery was so varied & just breathtakingly beautiful along the way. Have a nice visit with your father & family.

I live in Southern California but used to live in Naples, Italy. My friends and I used to go to Capri, Positano, or Ischia on weekends. We would ask our friend Paulo, “ What’s our Mission?” And he would take us to these awesome pools to swim. Really miss those adventures!

Dear Carlos and Nikki, I wonder if you guys know someone in your town or in Italy in general, who creates white marble memorial statutes for a church or cemetery. Because in USA most businesses order them from Italy and charge more what it cost directly from the sculptor plus shipping. I would really appreciate any information as I plan for my sister's grave to install a white marble Saint Mary Mother of God statute of about 1.5m tall …. very common at orthodox and catholic cemeteries… Graci….
