Why Italy is Attaching Microchips in Parmesan Cheese | Vantage with Palki Sharma

Parmesan cheese is a multi-billion dollar industry. But there are a lot of counterfeit cheeses out there. Authentic Parmesan cheese is only made in the mountains of Italy.

And the cheese producers have started putting edible microchips on their cheese wheels to distinguish genuine Parmesan from counterfeit cheese. Palki Sharma tells you why.

  1. Wow !! Imagine muslin cloth was counterfeit..ed by the British and the so called Europeans were okay with it.. Karma is bitch 😊

  2. We Indian have never cared to protect own cultures. We have forgotten so where is possibility to protect? Rather we are doing everything possible opposite of what we are supposed to be by culture. Such bastards…

  3. There is no return on investment here unless someone eats the casing with the chip. They had to buy the chip but it doesn't stop imitation products from selling or catch the criminals with fake cheese. What if you buy an authentic cheese wheel but the chip inside has died from ESD? What if an authentic cheese wheel doesn't get it's chip in production? Who will end up accused of possession of illegal cheese because the RFID tag is broken or missing? Is this just existing to spread social contagion lies that it's normal to eat toxic things like electronics in small quantities? They only return on profit if you eat the chip and they sell your tracking location to bidders on black market.

  4. Its was funny when people from USA tried to patent Indian Basmati rice in their name, They lost the case. Anyways parmesan cheese is made in parmesan, italy, they have every right to protect the brand as intellectual property. India on the other hand is the largest exporter of diary products in the world. Indian Companies should invest in traditional research and bring Indian cheese which tastes better then any cheese available today, trademark it and earn billions. The only unique thing Italy says it has in parmesan is the bacteria which is naturally occurring in permesan, italy. life forms does not change much in rest of the world… research and get the best out of it. goal is, it should taste better then parmesan cheese, thats it.

  5. How is it even possible to counterfeit? Isn't it just a matter of taking some bacterial cultures and then dropping it in milk?

Its not like they genetically engineered the bacteria? I'm pretty sure you cannot patent or trademark a naturally occurring bacteria.

I mean, the quality may be different. Arguably a third party could even do a better job of the original makers, thats the entire point of capitalism afterall.

Cheese and wine may not be best from Europe if you give others a chance, and I think that chance should be given. Could a European restaurant make a better Peking duck than China? I hope and pray that they try, its called progress.

  6. Create a great knockoff brand and call it "FYi Cheese", and no, the i doesn't mean information! 😉

  7. From the street food vendors that I've seen in India maybe they should worry about that because it looks like a serious health hazard!

  9. This way we can track where the poop went and how much percentage lf poop was because of cheese 😅😅😅😂😂😂

  10. This is sos tupid, if they maintain their quality they will sell well. Just imagine if Jockey starts putting chips in their underwear.

  11. Hmm, what all would I be consuming in the days to come? I hope no one will make me swallow a chip to reveal my inner thoughts!

  12. What’s happened to her , some of her news made international headlines, now she is discussing cheese.
