🍾We all know that vintage matters, especially if we are planning to keep the wine in our cellars. In this video I will blind taste four different vintages of a single vineyard Barolo wine to see the different characteristics of each vintage reflect in the wine and its ability to withstand the test of time. And let’s find out if I can guess the vintages and spot the better ones and worse ones?

This tasting took some serious guts! It’s so tough to taste between vintages in a region like Barolo which is full of talented producers who know their vineyards and how to adjust production. That and addition to the high level of tannins and acidity. I found some beautiful wines from producers in Europe during the poor 2014 vintage as some declassify fruit from top vintages and make less wine but better (which you cover later in the video)
Side note, of recent vintages in Barolo… 2016 always stands out for me. The wines are so spectacular already! Let’s see how they come along.
Okay! I was making mental notes and making my own guesses and I also mixed up 17-18 (got the 2014 and had no idea about the 2010). It's relieving to make similar reasonings as the experts, even if we're all headed into the same mistake! Learning is actually more fun than success, tbh
Thanks for the cheerful tasting!
Hard to tease out differences between two, recent warm vintage wines, i.e., 2017-2018. So, good job, and instructive video.
I stumbled upon a vintages charts service where you can look up countries, regions and sub-regions/styles and check the years. My wines were not bought considering the specifics of the years, so I expected them to be from poor vintages because I thought maybe the market picked clean all the best ones. Turns out that wasn't the fact and I was delighted to find that I have some lucky high scoring vintages. But I'm guessing this is because my wines are not expensive. I bet that in the top market layers it's a different story.
You know what would be nice, now that you mentioned it. It would be nice if wine producers started publishing easy to locate notes about the weather conditions for each vintage. On a side note…Agnese…HALP! My dad came home with 25+ bottles of not-age worthy wine. (also probably not store in the best way) Tips and tricks to use up wine (that's not bad but not good) in other ways other than drinking it? 😅👀
Great video, you're always right to me, even if you pick the wrong vintage blind tasting lol 😆
Is it me or the video is speeded up? Nice vertical!
3 out of 4 ain’t bad! 🍷🏅🙏
Oh no..I got the same vintages as you did. Using your descriptions only. 18-14-10-17. Close enough though, older vintages 2-3 and recent vintages 1-4. Not bad
Can you even compare them if you Drink them in the same year? Shouldnt you drink them at the same age?
Great video for me. I visited the Rivetto wineyard and have been enjoying Nebbiolo. The cellar people recommended 2016. 2010 sounds exciting. Thanks.
I am a novise when it comes to wine and to old for finesse tasting but really honestly enjoy Your channel and videos. Can´t wait for the next one!!
Sweet! Your expression adds a lot. "Oos & Ahs, wows, & hmms" are the most important part of tasting, enjoyment. Eye and hand movements too. Easy to hear and understand tool.
plus — You are looking for the best aspects of wine, the expression and evolutionover time, as you taste and as it ages. Great wines can start great and get incredible over a whole evening. Your vintage show really works well. Viva la difference! More vintages to taste make a the weather and land talk, so great wines that can age teach the bigger picture and value from all great wine. More please! Yay wine! Thank you so much, because Barolo and age are the thing!
Another fantastic video guys. Quite interesting.
"Animalistic", I do not believe that I have ever heard a wine described in that term before, the wines sounded wonderful.
