We checked another BIG item off of our bucket list today! Today we were able to visit Milano and go to the refectory of the Dominican convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie and see Leonardo da Vinci’s, The Last Supper. It is one of UNESCO’s World Heritage sites.
Leonardo Da Vinci painted this masterpiece in 1494. It has survived countless wars, government changes and even restorations to become a symbol of the night Jesus revealed one of His 12 disciples would betray Him. This painting is shrouded in mystery, has been the subject for many books and movies and many believe it hold secrets to unlocking the past.
When we saw it my first impression was that it is so much bigger than you think it will be.
Tickets are NOT easy to get. Be sure to book them well in advance. Entries are timed and once you enter to see the painting, you only get 15 minutes and it goes FAST. They only let 25 people at a time go in so it is very controlled.
We also ate at a 327 year old restaurant. Antico Ristorante Boeucc has the style and charm of old world Europe. The food is authentic, the people are OH So Italian, and the experience, one you will never forget! If you want a special place to dine with great food, great service and a true Milanese experience, this is the place for you!
Also, if you are driving through the Reggio Emillia area in Italy, be sure to be on the look out for their unique train station and bridges. These were very interesting and can be seen from the highway.
