In a small port in Tunisia, 11 people died after their boat, full of asylum seekers and refugees, capsized on its way to Europe.
One story, but it happens all the time.
It is an ongoing crisis in the Mediterranean, claiming lives every day, as the EU and other nations try to deter migration itself, wanting to avoid an influx in refugees.
On today’s Fourcast, we talk to Foreign Correspondent Paraic O’Brien about his time in Tunisia on the frontline of this crisis, and what the reaction by politicians, as well as the lack of reaction from the public, tells us about how we view migration today.

Refugees are one thing, migrants are quite another. If they are indeed migrants, then to prevent any liklihood of any one drowning; it seems quite obvious that one must do everything possible to remove the risk buy preventing those boats from setting sail.

There is obviously a very strong (and well funded) lobby all across Europe promoting this invasion and quite happy to see the ruin of the continent. For example, who is funding all the scum "rescue boats" floating around? No doubt someone from the Gulf. 🙁

They need to be mass neutered. All African countries, all males and a few feamles need to be sterilized at I'd say age 10. It needs to become a law there if we want to save Europe. Furthermore europe needs to close their boarders, no money for immigrants, only food and water, the necessities and a fast deportation needs to become law in all EU countries. Also why they are here they need to be forced to work for the state they are in – but they shouldn't receive money but coupons for essentials.

For me, I agree that immigration can be good for a country as it can give some great help work wise or special skills BUT only if it is balanced.
I am French and wherever I did go, I did need a passport and had to have clearance of not having a criminal record and for work, Covid 19 vaccination: I have not got the luxury to avoid that ans that is fair enough. . Any immigrants coming to, for example, Italy, should pass the following reasonable tests:
Are they genuine refugees or economic migrants?
Do they have one piece of identity papers, regardless, have they got a criminal record of any kind?
Have they been jabbed against Covid 19?
To give a hand up to help some people yes, to give a hand out tough does not work. At last but not least there are more than 95.3 million people touching poverty in the EU (22% of the population) and 12 million unemployed, so we cannot receive masses of people from other countries just like that.
