  1. I’m from a king line of southern cooks, and my Mama would say “Don’t turn your nose up at something you haven’t tried!”
I’ve cooked a lot of them (fresh & canned) with & without bacon grease, potatoes, etc, but I’ve not done them this way – I’ll give it s try! 👍

  2. I do undrained beans, butter, bacon and slivered almonds and just cook the crap out of it until the liquid is reduced and cloudy

  3. French green beans are achieved by julienne cutting them, it's not a type of green bean that is only grown in the north.

  4. I can't get over how mad some of these people are because of the way you cook green beans. This is America! If you don't like the way Tammy is cooking her green beans, then don't cook yours like that. I appreciate learning a different way to do something. It's not hard; but it is time consuming.

  5. Bacon drippings, ham and a diced onion is how my Grandma Ruth made them, picked and snapped right out of the garden! Yum!

  6. Hey Tammy…try using bacon grease instead…bet you would love them that way too!! Cook mine the same way!!

  7. My taste buds are sensitive to canned veggies. Lol. I recommend that you rinse your beans!!!! ! Drain and rinse. Cook in chicken. broth or broth from smoked meat. , onions, pepper , salt and throw in some new potatoes. Lol finch with a few pats of Budda. Lol

  8. These look good, but my favorite way is to cook them with lard and red potatoes!! I know lard isn't the healthiest thing, but it sure makes good green beans!!! I will definitely try your recipe, though!!

  9. I cook my beans down like that with the sugar but I do use bacon. I just like bacon

  10. What? No bacon grease? I’ll try it but I can’t promise I won’t add a touch of liquid gold at the end!

  11. Canned green beans are underrated! We like them in salads too for a change up of the usual ingredients. Can't wait to try Tammy's version & all the commenters' variations too.

  12. I use sugar on my fried potatoes since i heard about it and boy it helps brown and tastes so much better!!

  13. You would save yourself a lot
Of time if you just drained them first instead of waiting for them to boil down. Try ya some bacon grease next time. Now that will be life changing !!

  14. I just tried these tonight following your recipe exactly and they turned out great. My dad loved them. I will be doing it this way from now on.

  15. I'm gonna have to try them. I usually do something like this but I drain mine and fry them. I put some bacon grease in my fry pan, drain my green beans, add some garlic to the bacon grease, stir that around a bit then add my drained beans and fry them until the bacon grease has fried away and soak into the beans and they are popping in the pan. The serve em up. Tastes like they are fresh from the garden.

  16. To make store-bought green beans edible — simply reduce the water content. It's magic.
Open and drain most of the water. Put the beans into a shallow pan over medium heat to get them hot. No lid. Reduce the heat to low and let them sit in the pan for 30 to 45 minutes, stirring every now and then. They will shrink as the water evaporates and as they do, the flavor will develop. Toward the end, you may want to turn the heat off completely and just let them sit in the pan. And that's it!
Of course you can add a bit of oil or bacon grease if you wish. With coleslaw and a chunk of cornbread (no sugar, please), all you then need is elbow room to have something close to what was a staple in the Appalachian mountains years ago. Oh yes, maybe an onion just to spice it up a bit.

  17. Great looking recipe. Much like my mother used to make. With regards to the non-stick pan. Every such pan I have ever used always say not to use high heat or metal utensils. This will destroy the non-stick material. When using non-stick I cook on medium high, that is, about 4-5 notches below high and no higher than 350 F in the oven.

  18. I love your recipes but French Green Beans as they are presented here in the U.S. are not a variety of green bean. French is just the way they are cut for canning. They are the same old green beans we always grow but cut into those skinny strands. Sometimes French Style green beans means regular green beans but harvested before the reach full growth. Like you I prefer the way you do for the way the are cut.

  19. My mamaw would use fresh green beans, use fatback. She would can them in a pressure cooker. Her beans were the best. When I was in the Army she asked me what I wanted for Christmas. She sent me 6 canned jars of beans, to Germany. They made it fine it was the best gift I got. She also sent me 2 jars of strawberry rubarb jam.

  20. It would be tough for del Monte to EVER have beans that are not delicious no matter how cooked … Yes my daddy put in 38 years at del Monte until they closed the Tampa plant.

  21. . I don’t understand why the recipe directions are different than what you say in video. Which one should I follow? Love that pot.

  22. I made these sticking to the recipe and had great success. Everyone ate them. We usually have beans left over, but not this time! I'm so excited! I can cook after all. I'm not very good at cooking; it has to be simple if I'm doing it, but oh, my gosh, these tasted wonderful. I almost ate my share while they were cooking on the stove because they were so good! Loved the video!

  23. Try a few dashes of Worcester Sauce, adds a little something more to the taste, Yum delicious !

  24. I made these for my husband, who absolutely LOVES green beans! Me not so much! I’ve never been confident in my ability to make green beans and my husband said his Mom made the best! She was an excellent, southern cook! He said these were so delicious!! Thanks Tammy for giving me a recipe that I can feel confident in😊😊😊 I did add 1/2 of a diced onion in mine.

  25. Ham odds and ends, sweet onions and russet potatoes in store-bought green beans is hard to beat. Season ‘em with whatever makes ya smile.
