Archaeologists have discovered a fresco that might be the ancestor of the Italian pizza in the ancient Roman city of Pompeii.

The painting, found on the wall of a house, depicts a flatbread with pomegranates and dates next to a wine goblet. Although it lacks classic pizza ingredients such as tomato and mozzarella, Pompeii’s archaeological director Gabriel Zuchtriegel said it could be a distant relative of the modern dish.
Pompeii, destroyed by an eruption of the Mount Vesuvius volcano nearly 2,000 years ago, is only about 15 miles away from Naples, the modern-day home of the Italian pizza, a Unesco-protected food.

IMPRESSIVE REALISM😍😘
Pizza was stolen cuisine from the "new world"
The fact this is thousands of years old and such vivid colours, is more impressive than what its depicting.
Naa ,Its a peperoni. extra Ash extra Pumice with a side of pyroclastic flow
Is it really obvious it's not a pizza or is this just typical archeologist talk?
Apart from pizza, roads, irrigation, architecture, systems of government & justice, classical art & literature, and tourism… what have the Romans ever done for us?
And a bowl of bubble tea
Very interesting.
Ya but where’s my drink ?
Was it a frozen pizza?
That right there is true al fresco dining.
Quick, see if there's an Uber No too, 😂😊😅
LOL! that's clearly some food on a wooden plate. Amazing art, though.
Okay, we can now say with confidence that the Italians invented the pizza. Congratulations
For me its a 'tagliere' ( a wooden board with different foods on e.g, eggs, bread etc.)
in a twist of irony pineapple was found on the pizza topping
Da Fred e Barney mangi a Pizza 🍕 più buona …😁😁😁
The problem I have with this is it’s an early pizza bread with toppings but what he describes as a strawberry looks a lot like a tomato. It probably is a strawberry because if it was a tomato they’d have to rewrite history.
Yo they had Little Caesars!
ITALIAN LIES ALL OVER.
Greeks Great Civilization copiers. Romans stole mostly and claim they invented it. Big Liars and Invaders. Also Grecia and Babylon had aqueducts, roads and buildings hundreds of years before the dam romans.
