1. Petition scam is also in other countries; I have seen this in France.
2. Rose scam/free gift: also in other countries, such as France. Dropping the ring is common in Paris.
4. Gladiators – similar to characters in many other countries, too.
6. Restaurant prices – avoid any restaurant that has multiple menus in an array of languages.
7. Skimming is worldwide.
10. Pickpockets! Oh, yes! By all means, get a belt to wear under your shirt or pants.
That petition scam is rampant in certain cities in the U.S. and I certainly saw it in England. It's common in the town I live in and it's usually folks who look like really sweet hippies. They get very hostile and will flat out assault you and rob you if you aren't careful. The free gift scam is rampant in Louisiana during Mardi Gras; people will offer you drinks that seem free, force you to drink them (sometimes by actually putting them in your mouth) and charge outrageous prices. I've seen the "woman with a sick baby" A LOT; a woman with an infant will approach you either with a note or verbally begging for help for her sick child, sometimes she will actually shove the child in your arms so if you try to avoid the interaction you'd have to drop the baby, and meanwhile a swam of other small children are robbing you. Avoid those women as though they have an actual plague; I don't want to drop a baby!!! Don't get scammed, be aware of your surroundings.
Getting referrals from locals you have had good dealings with is very successful. A scam I helped someone avoid was car insurance. A repair shop was pressuring someone we had met to get insurance. They found an employee who spoke French and had him call me so that I could ask questions for them. Long story short they passed on the insurance.
Greeting from Sunny Cape Town South Africa , we just spent 21 days in Rome Florence Milan Venice. A great video , but some of these scams are a little outdated. we used the Metro rail , bus and trams extensively and I must say we felt very Safe compared to previous years.
We almost got caught in a fake police scam in Copenhagen
I was touring Anfield stadium in Liverpool and after that I looked for a pub to chill and have a beer . Some good looking dude approached me and tried to carry my backpack saying that it looked heavy and stuff . As a solo female traveler I said : No , lad ! He was relying on his good looks and he could have gotten all my cash, my credit cards, passport and GoPro and camera . No, lad ! Not on this trip . Boy, did he try or what ?
My parents lived in The Czech Republic and Bulgaria for a few years. One of the scams they saw was a woman with "a baby" would run up to someone and "trip" while tossing the "baby" to a person. While this was happening someone would steal their purse, wallet, etc.
We got scammed in Granada by someone giving us directions with the expectation of renumeration. I gave him a euro and left.
Buying leather products. If scammers at the pop up markets are selling fake leather products, don’t you think they would lie to any and all of your questions? Buy from a reputable brick and mortar store.
It won't t load the surfshark link
Very useful! Scams get more and more creative so it is good to know these things before you go! Thanks for making the video!
