Happy Father’s Day to all dads in the world & father figure – stepfathers, grandfathers & uncles who have assumed parenting roles. Today, anyone can claim they have the best dad in the world. In the Philippines, Father’s Day is officially celebrated every 3rd Sunday of June following the American influence. In some Roman Catholic nations, tribute to fathers have been observed on the feast day of St. Joseph on March 19 (incidentally our birthday).

Like most occasions that started originally as religious holidays, Father’s Day these days have been commercialized (though not in magnitude as the Mother’s Day) with the sending of greeting cards, gift giving & dining outs. In the United States, the honoring of fathers was credited to Sonora Smart Dodd of Washington. Its’ said she had the idea in 1909 while listening to a sermon on Mother’s Day & was supported by local religious leaders. On June 19 the next year, the 1st Father’s Day was celebrated.

With the event getting more popular & widespread in the US, it became a national holiday in 1972 when US President Richard Nixon signed a legislation designating the 3rd Sunday of June as Father’s Day. In the Philippines, it’s widely observed on the same day as proclaimed in 1988 by Philippine President Corazon Aquino.

In every family, dads are just ordinary men turned by children’s love into extraordinary heroes, adventurers, story-tellers, even vloggers & so on & so forth. A father’s relationship with his daughter is so unique & special that he becomes the standard against she will judge all men. In my case, that’s really high standard so you’ve all just been warned LOL
