  1. Great tips!! May I suggest also: ask locals what their favourite local restaurants are! As we are proud of our food, we love to let travellers and tourists to have their best experience in our own regions.

  2. The best meal I had in the Veneto was actually quite near a tourist spot in Verona, near the row of restaurants facing the coliseum there, BUT it was just tucked away down an alley. Thirty steps off the beaten path was enough for a mind-blowing meal!

  3. Just so all of you tourist know: the same general rules apply to America also. The good food us with the small independently owned restaurants. America's bad reputation about food is because of the chain restaurants owned by corporations.

  4. When in Rome we always go here. Antica osteria Da Giovanni by the river Tiber. Definitely local and very well priced. Menu changes daily. Doesn’t look much from the outside but really good food
