A Hidden Gem in Chino, CA: The Secret Italian Deli From The Owners of Owen’s Bistro #owensbistro

Welcome back to Chino and The Hills Secrets Exposed.
Hi, I am your host Thomas Ryan. Today I am in the heart of downtown Chino and did you know there is a “Secret” Sammich spot just steps away from City Hall? Join me, as I explore this delicious not so hidden gem.

A secret little Deli next door to Owen’s Bistro with no name, no phone, no website brought to you by Owen’s Bistro Chef James and Denise Kelly.

In 2020, As a result of the in person dining experiences being shut down by the Covid-19 Pandemic, the owners of Owen’s Bistro found it necessary to adapt their menu for their patrons providing a more casual takeaway experience with offerings of burgers and sandwiches. These items quickly caught on and became very popular.

With the intent always being to expand and provide a different offering and as an ode to the 2008 Southern California Chef of The Year’s previous 14 year sandwich shop venture, Brown Bag It, the “Deli” was born.

I spoke with Chef James and Denise about their secret sandwich shop and they told me they had their eye on this location for a number of years. Formerly the Foodland Market for more than 20 years, the previous owners were retiring and the Kellys eventually took over the 5216 D St. location.

It’s true, this location has no name, often being referred by multiple names such as, “The Deli”, Owens Deli, The Italian Deli or Secret Sammich on Instagram.

The deli offers a regular menu with items such as a House made Porchetta sandwich, Grandma Mary Meatball sandwich, The Soprano and Poly Walnuts.
Additionally there is a Secret Sandwich board with ever changing creative lunch and dinner options. This menu can only be found on Instagram or in the deli.
In addition to these menu items they offer catering, sandwich trays, desserts as well as beer and wine.

My family has been here numerous times and enjoyed many of their sandwiches and I invite you to do the same. Check their Instagram @secret.sammich for the most up to date information, menu and hours.
