We are Heather, Bradey, Alexa and Chloe. We purchased an abandoned stone barn in the foothills of the Italian Alps and we are working together as a family to renovate and restore this old stone barn into our dream home.

  1. I know this is way too late…I have no idea whether these videos are recent or not. I viewed the beam aging with the sharp utensils and torching. Not only dangerous, but I think unnecessary. I would argue that the modern additions of new components contrasts with the old existing – each enhances the other.

I enjoy watching your works progressing. I was fascinated by the issue in video 35 where the boulders are rolling down on the building – certainly a major issue. Hopefully you have a geotechnical engineer about who could advise you. I am not such a person but have you considered laying up a gravity stone wall say half way back on the terrace behind the roof eaves? The wall – say 2' to 3' wide and say, 3' high – perhaps 50' long that could block or deflect boulders.
Or am I not understanding the size of potential said boulders?

  2. Not sure about this. Do you worry that a false note is being introduced into an otherwise wonderful resurrection of an old building? Ultimately, of course, the only criteria has to be what works for you.

  3. Unecesary work the beams where just fine when are you guys actually going to move there is my question 🙄

  4. AOL the greens/leaves of your vegetables are edible as well. Your garden looks delicious!

  5. i found out recently hat Canada and China are not allowing their citizens to plant veggie gardens china actually is removing groves of fruit trees for gain crops they started a crop police that literally pulls out plows over or chops down anything that people are growing in their own yards and removing things like poultry ducks and chickens that til recently could wonder around villages are now being rounded up that's so nice to see you both are able to utilize what you have to it's fullest GB

  6. Sorry this just looks like all kinds of dumb. 😅
    Edit: 10:12 yup aaaand
Edit2: 15:00 you’re really going to light the beam on fire that’s holding the open container of flammable stain? Really?
Edit3: no ppe while sanding, staining, or flambéing the stain either, huh?
    Edit4: 21:42 jayzus
    Edit5: 22:00 did you just explode 🔥💥

  7. Expenditure of too much time, $, and sanity. Get a real chain link fence with extreme cable supports to save your fine barn from rocks.

  8. If u have Irish relatives such as grandparent then can apply Irish passport and won’t have go through d7 visa process any longer.

  9. Great video Heather and Brady! Brady, did you used to cook for a living…you have some pretty good kitchen skills.

  10. That can with solvent and the torch lit near it…maybe a little dangerous ? Just stay safe.

  11. Wow! That opening scared me. As they say, ‘it’s not the fall, it’s the sudden stop’! Please be careful. Looks great though.♥️🇨🇦

  12. Me again. Agree with another viewer about shades of white – there are so many to choose from. Really stark white might not work. But hey, it’s your project and I’m sure it will be beautiful.

  13. The beams look good. I understand why you did it. Still…did you have a 'ripped jeans' feeling after you did that?🤪

  14. Your house is in a beautiful area, the effort you are putting into your place , makes it worth it.

  15. Patinas normally occur on their own over time and that blond wood contrasts stone more nicely than burnt but that is a personal preference.

  16. Goodness gracious thats a lot of work. I love the way you are distressing the beams. I did that once with new kitchen cabinets that we wanted to look ancient. That wood was much softer though. I used heavy chain.
What a great teacher you are. So clear in your explanation. Thank you ! I love the garden too. A garden doesn’t need to look Pinterest like to be fabulous 😊

  17. Damn!!! It's truly shocking the extent to which you're going to truly rebuild this ancient structure, so incredibly much work!!! Hand in there!!! I was wondering if the girls were going to school and now I'm wondering if they're learning any italiano. I can't believe the extent to which you're going and it makes me nervous to see you climbing over those beams while do so.
