    That entire P⁰£¡ce Đepªrtmeⁿt should have been held accountable for how this ordeal was handled. Meredith's đea+h was a sinister domino leading to Amanda's experience & is absolutely why I could never feel comfortable or safe even vacationing there. It was obvious validating their immediate accusations as to not feel…wrong…embarassed?…etc..was the priority & any organization where the majority of it's members believe that righting wrongs is comparable to weakness rather than embracing the value of being humbled, is dangerous territory occupied by dangerous people. They were willing to throw away an innocent person's life & desecrate truth as a whole in an effort to avoid momentary embarrassment & deny justice by making a mockery of the judicial system as a whole…!? What. The. Fuck.

    Also some of you in the comments need to watch Paradise Lost about the West Memphis Three. There’s no right way to act after being falsely accused. Once people have an idea in their head about you that’s it. Amanda might not be perfect but neither are any of us. Watch Paradise Lost then look in a mirror. Seriously think how you would react in her same situation as a 20 year old living a foreign country. When I was 20 and with my past if I was in that situation people would absolutely think I did it. It’s scary that just being yourself could send you to prison even if you’re innocent.

    I once rode the bus and sat next to Amanda a couple years after she returned home to Seattle. I speak Italian and really wanted to ask her about her ordeal in that language so others couldn't likely eavesdrop. But I opted to respect her privacy and not bother her, but I always wonder "what if"? It does sound like she wouldn't have appreciated it anyway.
