(1 Jun 2021) Italy lifted restrictions on indoor dining on Tuesday and Romans were quick to take advantage rushing to their favorite restaurants.
Renato Antonio Marino, a regular at the Trattoria Corsi, said it feels like “home”, as he dug into his favourite seafood salad and sipped on a glass of wine.
Owner of the Trattoria Corsi, Manuela Paiella, said the last year had been “so hard,” but she was now starting to see “a strong light at the end of the tunnel.”
“Up until a few weeks ago it was very dim, we had hope but now I am much more serene,” he added.
Italians have been living with various levels of coronavirus restrictions since March 2020 when the country went into total lockdown as the virus spread rapidly.   
To date over 126,000 people in Italy have died from COVID-19 but a successful vaccine campaign has dramatically brought down the number of cases and the country is slowly easing back to normal.  
Nearly 35 million people in Italy have received at least one dose of the vaccine, over half the population.
