Go team low carbon
"Team gas"
>Germany
More than ideological, abandoning nuclear for Germany comes from experience: due to its very dense population the problem of nuclear waste storages is essential. Of course no problem for France that ships it to its (former) colonies with no backlash from their voting population.
Where does France get its uranium? maybe reinforcing French nuclear is reinforcing French colonialism. 🤔
Cant believe im saying im team France
I’m missing a key point in this discussion: heating.
For example, France has been and is still heavily subsidising nuclear for decades, “forcing” nuclear power to be cheaply available to consumers, so there’s still many people who do have old and inefficient electric heating at home.
And in Germany, about 50% of electricity is already from wind and solar, while coal or gas play a major factor in heating: about half of Germany is heating their homes with gas furnaces, and another 15% use district heating, “harvested” from cogeneration in gas and coal power plants.
By moving on to heat pumps, France could actually reduce their electrical demand for heating, which would be more compatible with the reduced output from French nuclear power plants. And Germany would reduce their dependency on gas and coal.
Germany will struggle with nuclear because of their actions in WW2
Look up the GE Hitachi PRISM & also the Advanced Fuel CANDU Reactor.
In 2022, Germany has emitted 1.8 more CO2 per capita than France. (Source : EDGAR – Emissions Database for Global Atmospheric Research)
Germany got lobbied HARD by russia for decades it's normal but they are aware they are entering a new paradigm.
Noone of team nuclear is talking about nuclear waste. With good reason.
Solar & wind are not efficient .
And also not as green as they said .
Electronics waste and poisonous waste beside rare material mining processes .
The output of nuclear reactors energy is H2O vapour beside thermal energy . And it can help in dismantling nuclear warheads to provide fuel foe lighting the cities so it is a win win situation .
Good topic but the narrator talks frustratingly slowly. Recommend to watch at 1.75x-2x speed.
Calling nuclear energy clean is such bullshit, it might be a different kind of dirty compared to coal and oil, sure, but it is not clean at all.
oh look who realised the puppet was a stupid idea, you're welcome, told you from the beginning
Renewables are trash and should be banned, as only nuclear can provide safe, cheap and constant energy anything else is pure shit.
I support France.i love french 🍟
ze jermanns back at it to ruin europe again FailFish
Team Green should be called Team Black for the coal they burn
The issue with current nuklear reaktors assuming a 40 percernt share of wind and solar (as many eu states have no real capacity for hudro) is that these reactors cannot complement renewables well. They are a great floor but they become non profitable when the have to adjust the power output below 90 percent.
Nuclear energy is the safest cheapest and greenest way to produce electricity. And if you disagree you're anti-science.
3 minutes in you make a mistake. Nuclear is not cheap. If you include a 50 year lifetime, the average costs of a new nuclear plant is around 11-13 cents/kwh. Wind and solar sits around 3-5 cents.
Nuclear has its place as a baseload and for diversifying energy sources, but its quite expensive to have as your main source
Germans want to tell others what they can build XD. France and Poland, even if they were threatened with war, will build an atom anyway
This energy Cold War to many people would further the case for a federal European state. That much I can say for sure.
It seems they didn't talk to enough Japanese people about why Fukushima happened. They don't all blame nuclear energy, a lot of blame is put on the bureaucracy and the building cuts they imposed for cost related reasons which made a preventable disaster an inevitability. Pop culture fun fact: the monster movie "Shin Godzilla" is a meta commentary on the failure of the bureaucracy to both prepare and respond to the crisis. As always, either the science or engineering is treated as the scapegoat for institutional failures who are unwilling to admit responsibility. – I am personally quite mixed myself. I prefer renewables over nuclear energy, but the realist in me says we should try a more mixed approach.
To my fellow Germans, if you’re against nuclear energy, you’re a victim of 40 year long anti nuclear propaganda financed by oil & gas lobbys.
1:51, it looks like the map will need an update, given the 15 countries, who met in Paris In May. Indeed countries such as Estonia, Belgium and sweeden were here. A quick mention to Italy, who was here to as an 'observer' and the UK was invited too so, the gas team looking smaller and smaller.
The fact that Germany is blocking nuclear technology purely out of blind ideology is mindblowing ! Whereas I can see why Spain is lobbying for gas, Germany stance on nuclear is, to put it mildly, deluded!
If Scholz coud just agree to let both technologies to be funded, it would be a win win scenario for everyone. Macron for instance doesn't want to forbid the use of gas as an energy source, he just wants nuclear energy to be recognized as a valid alternative to fossil fuel. Scholz, and Germans in general, dont want nuclear like, at all! They want Europe to be rid of it completely. Sorry, but on the face of the challenge that we must overcome. which is simply the greatest challenge ever for the human species. This attitude is simply and plainly STUPID!
I have an idea, since Germany is so against nuclear energy, they should put in place a law against solar panels! Cause you know, the sun emits energy via NUCLEAR fusion. And since whe are at it, once fusion energy is mastered (whenever that happens). Lets give them a favor, everyone can have fusion reactors, except Germany. Because NUCLEAR. They want to play stupid, lets oblige them.
Team low carbon makes sense, the greens never made sense. It's nonsense to compare what was built by the Soviets (no safeguards, etc) with the latest nuclear technology from France, etc. This is politics being pushed in the form of false propaganda to get rid of nuclear, whereas actually nuclear is the cleanest and with high effeciencies too.
Would be more accurate to say team idiot and team nuclear. Since even us swedes who has a good relations with the germans see germanies action as idiotic.
This is just a case of Germany being self righteous pricks, because newsflash: GAS ISN'T GREEN
All they do with their nuclear fearmongering is bargaining away our collective future for discrete personalized gains.
The truths is that less people have been injured in nuclear accidents than in accidents related to either gas or wind power.
Only solar is safer
GERMAN GREEN FANATICS will DESTROY EUROPE.
I am German. I apologize for the stupidity of my government. France is right on this point: nuclear energy is not only green energy but also necessary for energy security in Europe.
Once this channel reaches 1M subs I will say that I was here when there were 30k subs
Nuclear power is the only solution for climate change as of today. And Europe must stop its dependency on dictators to buy (expensive) energy
