I will be sailing on Enchanted in July and we have booked Catch by Rudi already. We had no issues and it recognized we have the premiere package and we were not charged. 😎
Enchanted definitely had the machines and advertised it as gelato with an up charge. Two times I approached, but the lines and service was a bit slow so I moved on. Not sure of the actual product !
Allison,thank you for your fun updates! I really hope that they get all these issues going on with the Grand Princess ironed out before our Australia cruise next spring… We have yet to not be fairly compensated for anything that doesn't meet our expectations on Princess.
Allison – the ice cream-gelatto thing is weird since Princess is making a big deal out of their "certified authentic" Italian gelatto status. It's possible just those over the top dessert have ice cream instead of gelatto. I would expect that the stuff in the cases is gelatto. BTW, you can make both ice cream and gelatto in the same machine.
The is the oldest so one would expect breakdowns😟 Rumor has that the loyalty program is being revamp elite will be 25 cruises and must sail once in two years
Regarding Grand I'd expect future cruise credit, especially if the smoke was preventable due to maintenance. I worked at a hospital engineering department where preventable maintenance was not being performed. The documents were pencil-whipped.
I would like princess to step up and offer both the future cruise credit and on board credit for the current voyage., It's such a long voyage and it's not the perfect way to spend time. For the passengers so the princess can take advantage? Of this? Opportunity. To? Make everyone. Happy and them to advocate? How princess treat them right?
We Have Only Seen Gelato On Royal Princess And On Discovery Princess. I don’t remember seeing it on the Majestic Princess. The Grand, Ruby And Crown Only Offered Ice Cream. The Gelato Selection On Discovery Princess Was Twice The Size That We Saw On The Royal Princess. On Both Discovery And Royal Princess Gelato Was also Offered In The MDR And It Tasted Like Gelato In Our Opinion. Great Video Allison Hopefully Repairs Are Expedited On The Grand Princess And Everything Works Out Well For The Passengers
Maybe someone took the breakfast order off the door and that's why she didn't get breakfast? I'm always afraid of that happening.

I am always amazed how the breakfast comes on time! It is VERY limited compared to years past. To date it has always worked for us.

I’m sailing on Discovery in a week. The differences between ice cream and gelato (generally speaking) are a couple of things: how much air is whipped into the finished product, the percent of milk to cream, and the amount of butterfat, oh, and traditional gelato doesn’t use egg yolks. You should be able to tell the difference in texture and flavor intensity. Gelato should have the more distinct flavor profile. You really need to see the recipe.
I'm on the Grand in July, so I'm hoping they get this under control soon. Summer will be here before we know it.
I have a Mediterranean cruise in August, already booked Rudy's dinning.
At the very least OBC AND FCC to the max and the most would be a free or seriously discounted next cruise.
Catch is available to book on Sky Princess, May 6 sailing.
One bad employee can make a difference. Remember the 99% that are doing a good job.
We tried Rudy's seagrill On the mardi gras ..(carnival) We weren't that impressed. Both of us feel princess does such a good job with their seafood in general.. I will say the presentation was very nice.. But we'll probably pass on his new venue on princess..
As far as I know the Caribbean princess does not have a gelataria on board the sky and the discovery do ,but older ships don't have that. So they're trying to satisfy the plus package passengers with a fancy dessert but it's not gelato unless you're on the ship that has a true gelataria on it and that is the ice cream parlor looking, glass cases ,hand scooped very cute With a striped awning on outfront.. On the sky it was across from vines wine bar.
I am pretty easygoing and go with the flow type of person, however, the disruption on the Grand is major and I would hope t hat they would offer OBC and/or future cruise credit. I am sure that Princess will fairly compensate those affected.
We were on the Sky Princess in March and that’s definitely ice cream, not gelato!
Thanks Alison for these updates! What a disaster for those guests on the Grand Princess! It makes you think as to whether Princess has cut corners on maintenance to save $$$. Hopefully these passengers will be well compensated as their dream vacation has been severely impacted. I was considering booking this itinerary next year but will wait and see now.
the issues as I understand them on the Grand are not weather related and therefore some serious compensation is due to those passengers. The voyage sounds really bad so I would say something close to full refund probably in the form of credit for future cruise so money is not given out. For some the experience may mean they don't want to cruise Princess again so that compensation is not great but for most should be good.
I believe the Grand Princess is the old ship in the fleet. Maybe it's time to rotate her out.
I really think the guest on the grand should be compensated in someway. Their trip was not what they expected, and not what they paid for. I know things happen all the time, but bottom line their trip was spoiled.
