  1. Having been to the actual city of Venice and taken a trip through the Grand Canal, those gondolas are quite accurate and yes, children, that's how they row them. If you're wondering how it gets under a very low bridge, it's amazing and shocking. The gondolier told my parents to hunch low and stay still. He TILTED the gondola to one side and it easily fit under the bridge. I was shocked. I didn't know they did that. When I was a kid, I thought there were actual canal locks to help the gondolas go up and down. The entire city of Venice has no actual canal locks. The water level is the same so they have to tilt the gondolas if the tide is high!
