Said to be the funky sibling of the historic centre of Florence, the Oltrarno’s densely packed streets are lined with restaurants, cafes, shops, churches, palaces, museums and gardens! Today, we will walk to the neighbourhood’s most famous landmarks and show you how to navigate your way around the other side of the Arno river, beginning at Ponte Vecchio. Oltrarno Florence Travel Guide w/ @michaworldwide
The Arno River divides Florence’s historic centre from its vibrant neighbourhood on its southern banks. The Oltrano, literally meaning ‘the other side of the Arno’, started out as a small unprotected settlement, however, over time it grew into one of the more affluent areas where nobles built their palaces. The Oltrarno district is made up of the neighbourhoods of San Niccolò, Santo Spirito, and San Frediano!

The first time I went to Piazzale Michelangelo it was a sweaty, August climb up the hill. The second time I made the trip, I took a bus. Definitely made the ascension easier!
And back down in Oltrarno, art lovers MUST visit the Brancacci Chapel in Santa Maria del Carmine for the Massacio frescoes. An admission fee charged, and at last visit, reservations required. The birth of humanism in eclesiatic art.
Such a wonderful walk! Thank you so much. Florence is a great city.
Great Job guys!! I can’t help but say the feel of the channel changed, maybe because your not adventuring the unknown? Cheers Kirk
Great video. Was this video taking in March? Just wondering. I'll be flying in a couple of days.
Loved this, gave me some more ideas for when I visit in about 5 weeks! PS. The cars don't stop at the zebra crossings for people? And, I didn't realise you could drink alcohol in public places. Cool!
My husband and I watch your videos together as our date nights and we live all the research you do! We cannot than you enough. there are many Florence videos out there but yours have substance and that’s why they are the BEST. grazie da Texas come sempre ❤
I’ve been to Florence 2x but I’ve never had time to cross the Arno! Una cosa terribile. Lo so. Lo so.
I hope you shared a bit of your bread with that baby seagull!!😂
Thanks! You guys are awesome!
Ok since you opened the fashion discussion. Mischa what brand are those boots? Are your feet killing you? Geez❤
Well researched and a a great guide to touring Florence on your own. I found this video to be one of the best I’ve seen. Heading to Florence in June and hope to visit some of your highlighted attractions. TY again.
Great video guys, 😍🇮🇹
This video is amazing!!! 👍🙂💯
Visiting in may. Going to venice, florence, Rome and pompeii. I've paid for all the trains, museums, hotels, etc. Do you think for 10days, family of 4, €800 would be enough for spending money for food, merchandise, etc? Was thinking of getting €200 more just to be ok.
When was this filmed?
Sundown at Piazzale Michelangelo seems to be absolutely beautiful. Stunning video! So much good vibes there, unbelievable. What's the best time to get there?
I love these videos. Very informative! 😊
Very nice, thank you! So other than Gusta Pizza (which we love), and the nearby Gelateria dell Passera, what is your favorite pizza place in the neighborhood where you live? We will be staying in that area for a few days very shortly. Grazie!
Fantastic video!
My wife and I will be visiting Florence as a port stop on our upcoming cruise. We'll be there for a tour around the city on our own probably for about 6 or 7 hours. While we're walking around, probably getting lost, if we run into you 2, we'll gladly buy you a pizza and a glass of wine. Maybe you can direct us to a good spot. Love your videos.
Our visit is on Wednesday April 19th.
Looked through your description/gear – You filmed
the majority of your videos on an iphone?
We've been in Florence for 03 days last month, a lot of your tips were helpful! But we'd walked something like 12~15km a day during these three days and we'd prefered taking the bus in front of Porta Romana to get to Piazzale Michelangelo for the sunset
Thank you ! We will be in Florence for our third time this Oct. Excited to check out the sunset at Piazzale Michelangelo since we have yet to do that. Hope the stairs are fixed by then too. Last time we stayed in Oltrano for a week, it was wonderful.
I watched also the previous video, did you really explain the difference who (we) give to piazza and piazzale? I am (too) impressed. 🍺😉
Our favorite neighborhood! This is were we were staying at an apartment close to the Arno and the supermarket that you went to 🙂 Thanx for bringing us back so many fond memories!
