Erbaluce di Caluso Passito called the “Nectar of the Gods” ~ Grand Reserve ~ From Italy
The Roman Emperors favored the ancient Roman heirloom grape Erbaluce –
An elegant masterpiece with lingering velvet finish.
In 1530 the Pope Paul III defined the wine as “molto perfetto” (very perfect).
Napoleone III and King Vittoria Emanuele II enjoyed the wine as a luxury and described it as “nettare spiritoso” (pleasant nectar).
The process of drying the grapes is still performed in the present day as it was hundreds of years ago. Each cluster of grapes is hand selected then air dried in the winery from the time of fall harvest until spring. The grapes are then soft pressed resulting in a rich concentrated elixir.
Today, it is still considered an excellent product, obtained by aging a minimum of four years in small oak barrels creating an incomparable Grand Reserve aperitif, dessert wine.
