The American attacks against the Admiralty Islands are successful, but this causes real tensions between Commanders Douglas MacArthur and Chester Nimitz. Much of this week is taken up by planning and meetings on both sides, actually- Adolf Hitler plans the occupation of Hungary, Josef Stalin plans new offensives in Ukraine, and the Allies plan to reconfigure their whole front in Italy. It’s all the prelude to an explosion of action.

  1. Indy here. Spartacus, James, Francis, and I just finished a D Day writing workshop in Austria. We- together with Markus- are writing that whole 24 hour series, which comes out June 6th. It's really coming along! The whole thing is now properly organized and the various threads are being written simultaneously so that when it comes out, it will very much be something that no one has ever done before. Really, the way we're doing it is a completely new thing. Nearly a third of the whole day- studio and on location stuff- has been filmed, and the first nine hours will all be in the can three weeks from now. Just thought you'd appreciate an update!

  2. Manus became the main base for the invasion of the Philippines and later the forward base for the British Pacific Fleet. It was a Royal Australian Navy base until PNG independence in 1975.
It has been upgraded recently for use by the RAN and USN due to the current geopolitical situation.

  3. 06:55 Those dugouts reminds me of a Bill Mauldin Willie and Joe cartoon during the Italian campaign where they are making a dugout using spent artillery shells and asking the artillerymen to fire a few more rounds so they complete it.

  4. I'd be interested to hear about the D-Day build up happening in England at the equivalent time.

  5. Well, I say, Indy! That might be the first time I heard you resort to proper profanities, albeit reported speech from Gen. MacArthur. I can just hear him say it, too 😃

  6. I finally did it ! I started this serie two moths ago, watching episode after episode and I finally catch you. Next Saturday I will watch an episode live for the first time

  7. Doesn't matter what they say about axis Sally. I saw the movie. We are a country of free speech what actual war crime did she commit. Our boys knew it was all BS??

  8. It's time enough that McArthur has his Statutes removed and his Aura is let go quietely into the night. A self promoting shit of a man whos blunders cost upwards of 50,000 allied troops and kept the war running 6 months longer than it needed have..

  9. One of the saddest issues facing the US was the fight between the services. Once again Naval Air was not used to help Anzio succeed. No one is better at dive-bombing than the navy and marine fliers, yet the Army refused to use them. And this irresponsible failure would again occur at Normandy. Not until the invasion of S France did the Navy (out of necessity), help out. Quickly the Army generals were stunned at how good the navy did, and how quickly they advanced. To learn more see my History Book, FATAL FLAWS Book 1 1914-1945

  10. Did anybody else play the computer game Battlefield 1943 road to Rome? The Assault on Monte cassino Mission or map however you play the game was hands down one of the hardest ones to do.

  11. I used to work with Siegfried Westphal's grandson, also named Siegfried (Ziggy) for short. A very nice man, can't speak for his grandfather.

  12. Hi Indy, love the work you guys are doing. Really great quality stuff. Thinking about signing up as a Patreon. A bit surprised to hear you swear though. Sometimes I watch it with my son (not war against humanity) for the educational value.
Thanks Indy and all the team.

  13. Adm Thomas Kincaid hero of the campaign for Guadalcanal supports Gen Douglas MacArthur's BIG MAC! in the Bismarck Sea Campaign Admiralties Islands, the Japanese attack in the Islands! Chester Nimitz and MacArthur go head to head and then agree that Bull Halsey command. will be a major part of the campaign. On the Eastern Front, The USSR Soviet fronts restock munitions food, and troops on the Ukrainian and Belarussian Fronts: Stalin proposed big operations to destroy German lines in multiple fronts ! Maj Georgy Zuhkov he was an awesome General! The Anzio front is very interesting! Do they face Axis sally II? With NEw plans!

  14. Lmao ffs. Been a member for years waiting for a shout-out and the Indian cricket player Rohit Sharma gets in there before me 😂
