"Don't tell the US?" United States is currently a net exporter of oil. In addition we know the Romanian and Bulgarian oil fuels very well as we bombed them extensively during the second world war.
I've taken that train several times in both directions, if you can afford the single compartment overnight it's wonderful. You can see from the views along the track how Romania is changing, there are more cars, fewer animals, modernity is arriving.

nice, interesting but a lack of quality: no shower, no….prefer a fast plane despite of the cultural aspects of traintravelling alas
You paid 90 eur for an upgrade to deluxe which was not actually a deluxe at all. Typical romanian swindlers…PS: Have they given you a bill. Just curious!
