thank you . i was looking for cookie like this one ,but with AURORA ammonium. is it in place of baking powder? thank so much
Same exact recipe that my mother used to make her Easter cookies. My mother's baskets had the hard-boiled eggs with the cookie dough criss-crossed on the egg. Also the basket handles were braided and attached separately. She also made the S cookies with the same dough. My grandparents came from the Catania area of Sicily. Wonder if it was a regional recipe.
Yes! My nonna makes them like that she's from Sicily as well. It must be a southern thing 🙂
you need to get your mom a kitchenaid to make her life easier then the hand mixer, but thanks for the recipes
I love the recipe and made lots of them, Thank you 🙂 Happy Easter 🙂 God Bless 🙂
she has a kitchenaid, but prefers doing things by hand sometimes
Great! Glad you liked it. Happy Easter!
It's definitely Sicilian. This recipe comes from Salemi (one hour southwest of Palermo) in Provincia di Trapani in Sicily. Glad to hear you share in the tradition! Enjoy!
Exactly. Go southern Italy!
did a quick Google search and saw that the Aurora brand is ammonium bicarbonate. It says it can be used in substitute for baking powder. I'm not sure about that. You may want to stick with baking powder. Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate (again different from both ammonium bicarbonate and baking powder).
